     John H. Cheyne was born, 28 June 1874, at 2:00 AM, in 24 Kirk Street, Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.1,2

Comrie Cheyne, Andrew Cheyne, William Alexander Cheyne, James Henry Cheyne and John H. Cheyne were listed as children in the household of William Cheyne and his wife, Catherine Cheyne on the 1881 Scotland Census, at 9 Love Lane, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was also listed as a scholar.3

James Henry Cheyne, John H. Cheyne, Comrie Cheyne, Andrew Cheyne, William Alexander Cheyne and Charlotte Cheyne with their parents, William Cheyne and Catherine Cheyne immigrated to the United State in 1882. First, living in New Hampshire and later in Massachusetts. The US Censuses listed his immigration date as 1883, in 1900; 1890, in 1910; and, 1885, in 1920.4,5

He was listed on the 1920 US Census as having become a Naturalized US Citizen in 1895..6

John H. Cheyne married Emma Dodge 1898. The couple was listed as having been married for two years on the 1900 US Census.7

John H. Cheyne was listed on the 1900 United States Census, at 310 Prospect Street, in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA. He was head of household and a brick mason. Also present was his child, Lester J. Cheyne. The family rented their home.7

John H. Cheyne was found on a list of military personnel dated 21 January 1918 in Quebec, Quebec, Canada. He had signed an Attestation Paper joining the 219th Battalion of the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force. He was widowed (actually divorced), a bricklayer, residing at 57 Pleasant Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts. and was born, 28 June 1874, in Peterhead, Scotland. He had no previous military experience. His next of kin was his mother, Catherine Cheyne, residing at the same address.8

John Cheyne was listed on the 1930 US Census as having been a World War veteran.9

John H. Cheyne was found on a border crossing list entering the United States, March 1919, at Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was 44, single, a brick layer and was born in Peterhead. He was joining his mother, Catherine Cheyne at 57 Pleasant Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts. He had previously been in the United States in 1883 in Cambridge.10

John H. Cheyne married Helen (?) 10 December 1919. The couple was listed on the 1930 US Census as having been married approximately ten years. He had first married at age 23.6,9,11

John H. Cheyne was in the household of James H. Cheyne and his wife, Helen G. Cheyne, and listed as brother on the 1920 United States Census, at 159 Locust Street, in Winthrop, Suffolk, Massachusetts, USA. He was employed as a bricklayer for a building firm. His apparent second wife, Helen (13374), was also present.6

John H. Cheyne was listed on the 1930 United States Census, at 591 Eagle Street, in New York, Bronx, New York, USA. He was head of household and a construction bricklayer. The family rented their home. He and his father were said to have been born in Scotland; his mother, in England.9

John Cheyne and his wife Helen Cheyne were listed on the 1940 United States Census, at 919 Eagle Avenue, in New York, Bronx, New York, USA. He was head of household and a bricklayer. The couple rented their home. All had been in the same place in 1935.. He was 65 years of age and born in Scotland and a naturalized citizen.2
