Annis Davis Hare was a schoolteacher. She is credited with being the first public school teacher in Berkeley Co. SC. She opened Tthe first county schoolhouse in 1913, a one room building, now a part of the old R. D. Guilds house on Main Street in Moncks Corner, SC. Warren Jolly is the present owner of this house. Annie was an English teacher and became principal of the Berkeley Co. Elementary School. She developed the first graded system in there. She retired in 1945, after 32 years in public school education the enrollment of city schools had jumped to 1,000. She taught three of her children and some of her grandchildren during her long career. [S306]
