"from William & Mary Quarterly: Fled to England with his father,
brothers, and sister about the time of the Revocation of the
Edict of Nantes in1685. He was naturalized as an English citizen
around 1687. He married the daughter of Dr. William Connyers, a
London physician. Shortly thereafter he migrated to America,
probably with other French refugees (Huguenots) to Charleston,
SC about 1700.
He soon moved to Stafford County, Virginia, where he was first
referred to as John Mozey, but on the tombstone of his daughter,
Margaret Hedgeman, as "John Mauzy, Gentleman". By his first
marriage to the Connyers woman he had three children. After her
death he married Mary Crosby Mountjoy, a widow, and they had two
children."
