Married Elizabeth Armstrong for first wife, by whom he had four children – Alphonso, Franklin, Horatio and Elizabeth. Alphonso and Horatio are dead. Horatio was in the late war. F. B. has taught school several terms, and was known as the “Teacher Brewer,” and is now a doctor. Mr. Brewer married Miss Sarah Hake, for second wife, April 15, 1843; she was born in 1814; had eight children by this wife – Leah (now dead), born July 6, 1841; Daniel, Jan. 21, 1843; Peter, Dec. 23, 1846; Sarah, Jan. 10, 1853; Sylvester H., Aug. 16, 1852; Cynthia, Jan. 10, 1855; Jay, Jan. 13, 1859, and Maryette, March 10, 1845. Daniel is a Doctor, and now settled in Fairbury, Ill."3
  • Sylvester Brewer's record of death was filed with the State of Wisconsin on 29 Jun 1880, over six months after his date of death. It records him as Sylvester Brewer, white, male, age 75, a farmer. The name of his parents, name of spouse, and place of birth is not recorded. His date of death is given as Dec. 18, 1879, however, his date of birth is erroneously recorded as Aug. 12, 1819 (the same record gives his age at death as 75, indicating he was born in 1804). He died in Jefferson, Wis., of paralysis, the certificate was returned by "Reed & Smith M.D." His last residence is given as Jefferson, Wisconsin.6
  • Sylvester Brewer is placed in the family of Peter Brewer based upon his appearance in Highgate as an adult, at a time when the only known Brewer of an age that would qualify him as a father was Peter. In addition, Peter E. Brewer, known son of Peter Brewer, named one of his own sons, Peter Sylvester. In addition, Sylvester's first son, Sidney Howard Brewer, was buried in the Brewer cemetery off Rollo Rd., on the historic Brewer homestead and with Peter and Hannah Brewer. The only vital document found thus far for Sylvester is is death record and that does not record his parent's names. It is possible that Sylvester is a son of Jacob Brewer (brother of Peter) and his wife, Elizabeth Stickney.
