In Oct. 1915 he re-enlisted at Sussex with the 104th Battalion, C.E.F. He arrived for duty in France on 26 Feb 1917 and was killed in action eight months later. He is remembered at the Menin Gate Memorial on the eastern side of Ypres, Belgium, and also on his parent's gravemarker in Burtt's Corner Cemetery.¹

He died in Jefferson, Wis., of paralysis, the certificate was returned by "Reed & Smith M.D." His last residence is given as Jefferson, Wisconsin.⁶
