  • Peter Brewer, Samuel Brewer, and Mark Brewer are all enumerated as heads of households in Elizabeth, Hardin Co., Kentucky in 1810. (This is not to imply that Mark is a brother of Samuel and Peter. All evidence points to no relationship between Mark and the other two. Janet Brewer of Palo Alto, Cal. has pointed out that Mark is very probably an emigrant to Kentucky from St. Mary's County, Maryland as part of the League of Catholic Families.).2
  • He appeared on the census in 1820 at Little York, Hardin Co., Kentucky, as Mark Brewer, with a household of 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 16-26, 1 male over 45, 1 female 10-16, 1 female 16-26, 1 female over 45, 2 persons engaged in agriculture.3

  2. [S2305] Janet L. Brewer, "The Brouwer Database (Mark Brewer, Samuel & Peter Brewer)," e-mail message from Janet L. Brewer (e-mail address) to Chris Chester, 16 Mar 2009, "Peter Brewer of Hardin County and Samuel Brewer of Mercer County (both Kentucky) are certainly more likely than not brothers - Peter swore an affidavit for Samuel's revolutionary war pension application (I have a copy of it), and Samuel refers to his "brother in Hardin County" as being the only person alive who could attest to his service.
HOWEVER, I believe that Mark Brewer, also of Hardin County, is no relation to Peter and Samuel. I'm 99.9% certain that Mark Brewer emigrated from St. Mary's County MD as part of the League of Catholic Families. Although there is some slight possibility that there is a relation, I think it was just a coincidence that they were also in Hardin County. The one possible "link" between the families that I have found is that Peter was living in a predominantly Catholic settlement in what was then Nelson County when he first moved to Kentucky. I suspect that he was a guide that the Catholics picked up in the Pittsburgh area (he and his brothers-in-law, the Hobacks, appear to have been adventurers, so I would think that making money guiding people down the Ohio River would appeal to him).
In any event I do not believe that Mark Brewer is related to Peter & Samuel.". Hereinafter cited as "The Brouwer Database (Mark Brewer, Samuel & Peter Brewer)."
