  • A biography of H.W. Brewer can be found in Biographical and Historical Memiors of Adams, Clay, Webster and Nuckolls Counties, Nebraska (1890), pages 587-8. At the time Henry (H.W.) was a grain dealer at Red Cloud, Nebraska, and states that he was born in Cazenovia, New York in 1840, the son of John Brewer and Cynthia A. Hills. John Brewer was born Jan. 24, 1806 in New York. He went to Tazewell Co., Illinois in 1843 and settled near Tremont. In 1848 he moved the family to Wisconsin. Henry (H.W.) is said to have begun learning the printing business at age ten. In 1861 he went to Denver, Colorado, where he was foreman of the Territorial printing, which printed the laws of the first Territiorial Legislature. In 1862, he and another printer, built a boat and navigated down the Missouri River to the Platte and arrived at St. Joseph, Missouri on June 1. He worked in Kansas City during the summer and then returned to Wisconsin. He moved to Lombardville, Stark Co., Illinois in 1871, where he was in the grain, lumber and impliment business, his firm called Brewer, Davis & Co. He remained there until 1882 when he moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska.9
