I am seeking info about parents of my grgrandparents, Thomas McDowell KINCAID b. b. 1811 in KY and Martha Ann MC NABB b. 1816. Have no idea where in KY they were born or married. Came to Clay Co., IN between 1830 and 1840. Oldest child was born in IN in 1837. My grandfather was James Edgar KINCAID, not the James yourefer to, but could possibly be from the same family. My Thomas had a maiden sister, Nancy, who came to Clay Co., IN also. Do you see any possible connection? Will gladly exchange info if there might be. Thanks.

Carolyn Peters <[email protected]> Thu, 1 Jan 1998
I am searching for the James McKinney who was born @1773-1774. I found a
"Deed of Separation" between James and Ede McKinney dated 1809 in
Cumberland Co., KY where they agreed to live separately. Since women
were not permitted to own property at that time, her property was held by
John Jackson (possibly a brother or brother-in-law) John's wife was Mary
Black so Ede's maiden name could possibly have been Jackson or Black.

In 1831, James married Mary Nichols in Russell County, KY. They are on the
Russell Co. census of 1840 and moved to Cumberland Co., KY by 1850 census.
I would like to compare notes with you on this line. Thanks, Carolyn
On that census it had James age 76 m, farmer

Mary age 42 f,

children Tiff age 17, m,

Samuel D age 14, m,

Ellenor age 12, f,

M.A. age 11, f

J.B. age 7, m,

Elizabeth age 4, f,

Where were Emma and Abraham married? Do you know who Emma's parents were?

I'm very much interested in the Devine/Divine line. I don't believe I have anything on this couple.

Aaron Crane, brother of John is my 4ggf. I was born and grew up in Perryville, Ky. Am very familiar with the area where the Cranes, Revolutionary war veterans, settled. Have records indicating Nathaniel, son of John, married first Sally Lynch. 2nd married Mrs C.A. Sharpenstein. Suspect she was Cynthia Keller first married to a Sharpenstein because 1.the initial C would be Cynthia and 2. one of children listed with her and Nathaniel is named John Keller Crane. There were a total of 17 children of about which 5 are unnamed. Nathaniel died at the age of 95 in the "barrens" of western, Ky.

I am seeking information (birthplace, parents, etc.) about Daniel HARRIS - b. ca 1737; d. 7 June 1821. Maybe bur. in Allenville, Cotton Twp., Switzerland Co., IN. Married Elizabeth DEMAREE b.1739 in Hackensack, Bergen Co., NJ., daughter of Samuel DEMAREE and Leah DEMAREST. Daniel HARRIS served in the Amer. Rev. War. He enlisted at Shepherdstown in 1777 in Capt. James Kearney's Co., Col. Hartley's Regiment and participated in Sullivan's Indian Campaign. He was discharged 1 June 1780 from Col. Adam Hubley's PA Regiment.

This is all I know about his children:

1. Ellen HARRIS, b. 12 Dec 1761 and bap. 17 Jan 1762 in Tappan, NY

2. Samuel HARRIS (my line) - b. 20 Nov. 1763, Beekman Twp., Dutchess Co., NY; bap. 20 April 1764 (NYC Collegiate Record); d. 20 Feb. 1852, Shakertown, Pleasant Hill, Mercer Co., KY. Married Elizabeth VAN CLEAVE, 25 Oct. 1784 in Lincoln Co., KY, b. 16 May 1766, d. 1 July 1852. Samuel also volunteered for Rev. War Service in VA in Oct. of 1780. Samuel stated on his pension application that his father moved the family to Berkeley Co. shortly after 1770. (I can provide information on descendants of Samuel and Elizabeth as well as the ancestors of Elizabeth.)

3. Robert HARRIS - b. 12 Dec. 1766, Preston, CT m. 1787 in KY? to Lucretia KENNEDY; He d. 23 July 1826; bur. Quercas Grove, Switzerland Co., IN. He also served as a Rev. War soldier. (I have a list of Robert's children with years of birth, from a pension abstract on the Switz. Co., IN GenWeb Site)

4. Lena HARRIS - bap.27 May 1770 in Conewago, York (now Adams) Co., PA

5. Polly HARRIS - m. 6 Aug 1795 in Shelby Co., KY to John TEAGUE

6. Peter HARRIS - m. 23 April 1801 in Henry Co., KY to Rachel VANARSDALE, dau. of Simon and Rachel (BANTA) VANARSDALE

7. Elizabeth HARRIS - b. abt 1784 in Henry Co., KY; m. 3 Feb 1805 to Samuel DURIE

These families were part of the Conewago, PA/Berkeley Co., VA/Kentucky migration of the Low Dutch. Daniel HARRIS's family also lived in Washington Co., PA after the Rev. War and shortly before moving to KY.

Hello!

I'm sorry that this isn't an answer to your query, but rather a comment for YOU .... I'm very interested in the migration path you mentioned. I have a Huff ancestor (William Huff, b. 1740ish [where??], m. in Va and came to Mercer Co. ca 1790-1794). He came from Virginia, but I know that his ancestors were part of the Low Dutch community .... had to be. Problem is ..... I don't know who his parents were, or *where* they were. There are other Huffs in Mercer Co who came from the colony in Hunterdon Co., NJ, but I can't place my William there. I considered looking in Conewago, but never did. Now that I know that some of them made the trek down into Virginia, and know which county they came through, I'll be sure to check it out.

I just want to thank you for posting this. Without knowing it, you've given me a great lead! TYSM!!!

Vincent Akers wrote a great series of articles for The Holland Society's magazine of history, de Halve Maen, entitled The Low Dutch Company: A History of the Holland Dutch Settlements of the Kentucky Frontier. They have been reprinted in booklet form. I know that at least one copy of this booklet exists at the Kentucky Historical Society. It was a footnote in these articles that led me to discover that Daniel HARRIS was the father of SAMUEL. The articles also briefly touch on the Conewago and Berkeley Settlements. Hope this helps anyone searching for Low Dutch ancestors. Also, there is a super mailing list on rootsweb, Dutch-Colonies. Many of the contributors to this list have ancestors that followed the migration of the Low Dutch and enjoy sharing information.

George W. Brown married Elizabeth Riley, 28 Jan 1835

Is this the same couple that showed some WARD children living with them in 1850 and 1860 census?

Do you know how the WARD children are related to the BROWN family?

Harvey Clark WARD shown with BROWN family is my gr grandfather, and a brick wall.

Harvey Clark Ward's parents are supposed to be George Ward and Hannah Veach.

Will share what I have. Any help will be greatly appreciated in solving this mystery.

I am researching my Claunch family background in Mercer Co, KY. The information I have thus far (From the RLDS Family History Center here in MO) is that Jacob Claunch m. Polly (Mary) Gray and they had at least three sons (I saw an earlier post which listed 8 Claunch children listed in a will for John Gray, was he Polly's father?) One of these children should be a Thomas Claunch who moved to Johnson Co., MO and is my GGgrandfather. Also, I am interested in information on a William Claunch m. Rebecca Bolton in 1798 and had a daughter Lucinda Claunch (who married the above Thomas Claunch in KY before moving to MO). Rebecca Bolton's parents were Peter Bolton (1748-1787) of Mercer KY and Rebecca Cobb (b. abt. 1748) of Mercer KY. Peter Bolton's parents were William Bolton (b. abt. 1722) and Rachel Haskell (b abt. 1726). Any information which can confirm or futher enlighten that which I already have would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Kim.

Actually I just started working on the connection to my League line.

I am sure you know how, when you run into a brick wall you turn and go in another direction. I found the family listed on the 1850 census for Mercer County and thought I would try to find info on the family.

I was in Bethel Cemetery about three years ago and found the gravestone for Abel and Elizabeth Lyons. My father John League was with me. He ask who these people were and I told him they would be his great great grandparents. He didn't know that so I was pleased that we had found the connection together for another generation.

I started doing family research about 10 years ago and I called my Dad and ask him if he would like to go traipsing through old cemeteries with me. So we spend a little of my annual vacation going to cemeteries in the Boyle, Mercer, Lincoln and Laurel Co. areas. Good bonding time for the two of us and sometimes a family member will go along for the ride. Thanks.
