Redwitz,Otto 09-15-1832 to 04-04-1904

From the Harrodsburg Herald April 1904

A Nobleman Passes Away- In Business Here 46 Years

Tuesday morning shortly after eleven o'clock Mr Otto Redwitz, one of the oldest and best known business men of this place, and in whose veins coursed royal blood, died at his home on Main Street, after an illness of two weeks of grip. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at three o`clock at the Baptist Church, Rev. W. M. Wood, the pastor, officiating. He was a devoted and loyal member of Montgomery Lodge, and was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, Mercer County, with all the honors of Odd Fellowship. Mr, Redwitz was a native of Stuggart, Germany, and came to this country many years ago, crossing the ocean in the same ship that brought over the famous Carl Schurtz, who was fleeing to America after having failed in his efforts to stir up a revolution in his native country. He shortly came to Harrodsburg and embarked in the confectionery business in which he has been engaged ever since. That was forty-six years ago, and there is not a merchant here now who was in business at the time Mr. Redwitz opened his first establishment. during his long residence among us he has gained nothing but the highest respect from the whole community, being in all things a representative citizen and an exemplary man. He was upright and honest in his business dealings, and at one time was counted wealthy. He was married in New York when quite young, his wife, who is very ill now still surviving him. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Messrs.Alex and Paul Redwitz and several daughters. He was 72 years of age, and had been in failing health. Of the many good citizens who have passed away in the last few months, none will be missed more from the business world than Mr. Redwitz

CUNNINGHAM
After a week, body of Man Who Disappeared is Found in a Field

The body of Mr. Ephriam Cunningham, a well know man of the Cornishville section, was found Wednesday morning lying in a field about a mile from his home. Mr. Cunningham disappeared about a week ago, the last trace of him being when he was seen on the road by an acquaintance and asked to ride. He stated that his "old heart was bothering him and he would get home." Wednesday morning Mr. John Lee Currey was passing through a field and discovered the body of Mr. Cunningham. It was several yards from the regular path in some weeds and it is a miracle that some one in passing had not found it before, as the short cut through the field is used frequently. The body had been partly devoured and buzzards circling above the spot told the terrible story. The only mark of identification was a pocketbook in which were some checks made out to Mr. Cunningham, and also several other papers belonging to him. Coroner Sam Shackleford was called and after thoroughly investigating the case returned a verdict of "Death from some unknown cause." The body was lying near a wire fence the left leg was broken entirely in two. It could not be told whether he had fallen attempting to get over the fence, or whether he had been stricken with heart disease and his leg broken as he fell. The remains were buried Wednesday afternoon in the Cornishville cemetery. Mr. Cunningham leaves a wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ed Derr, of ..... (?)
