Edward Green
Surnames: CAHOE, CLARK, GREEN, NEWTON#01869
David Clark <[email protected]> Sat, 01 Jan 2000
Looking for information about my gggrandfather Edward Green. He shows up in the 1880 census 29 yrs old but without a wife. He has 3 children. Florence 8, Ida 4, and Samuel 2. I have been unable to find him in any other record before or after. I am only fairly sure Ida is my ggrandmother because the age is right and a bible record giving her fathers name matches. Would like to know Edwards wifes name and their parents or any other information about these ancestors. Thanks David

Mercer Co., KY Wills, film 0,924,008 (abstracted on film)
LITTLE, JOHN

Will: July 7, 1794: Prob: Nov 1794: Book 1 page 187

Leg: Miss Polly Smith (dau. of Col. John Smith), Peggy Smith, Betsey Smith, Patsy Smith, Jenny Smith, Sally Smith; John Smith and his brother William Smith [sons of John Smith].
Exor: Robert Mosby, Col. John Smith.
Wit: James M. Graham, Andrew B. Shilidey, Samuel Graham.

I haven't any idea where John Little came from, so Franklin Co., KY is as good an idea as any. In fact, he could have lived in Franklin before coming to Mercer. However, since his legatees were all Smiths, he had no other heirs but his daugter.

Thanks for your message. I do not have any info about the gravesites.

I have Margaret Potts' parents as David Potts and Elizabeth Luna (or Looney ?). Is this correct?

Jesse Henry married Martha McConnell; Samuel Willis Henry, Sr. was their son and was my Great-Grandfather. Jesse Henry moved from Mercer Co., kentucky to Illinois.

Yes, this is the David Potts who m Elizabeth Looney. Her father was Absalom Looney, another Rev. War soldier (from VA, I think), and her name was listed as Luna only one time (I think marriage record), and so the DAR uses both names, one in parenthesis like you used it.

Parents of Lillie B. HALE CUMMINS
Surnames: CUMMINS, HALE#01876
Birchell Coslow <[email protected]> Wed, 05 Jan 2000
    Response >>
I'm searching for the parents of Lillie B. HALE (b.12-31-1861--d.2-18-1894). She married (11-2-1879) Henry Milton CUMMINS (b.4-18-1860 Mercer Co. KY--d.3-31-1931 Harrodsburg KY). The family appears on page 21 of Jack D. Bailey's recent revision (1999) of his "Bury Me at Dixville."

I've looked at all the databases (I believe) on the Mercer Co. KyGenweb pages -- I find Lillie B., but nowhere does she seem to have parents listed. (Alas, I don't have a Mercer County census book for 1870, and she doesn't seem to have been in Washington Co. then.)

I'm posting this on the GenConnect Query pages for the Hale family surname and Mercer Co. KY, also on the KYMERCER-L and HALE-L maillists. Sorry for any rereading that this entails. Any assistance would be appreciated.

ELIZA ANN SELCH b. @ 1820
Surnames: SELCH#01878
Linda Orr <[email protected]> Thu, 06 Jan 2000
    Response >>
Would anyone out there know of the Selch families that lived in Mercer County, Ky in the late 1700 or early 1800?

My great great grandmother Eliza Ann Selch was born around 1820 in KY. She moved sometime after to Johnson County, IN and married Henry Robinson in 1848. Their children were Angeline, Morgan, Peter Nicholas, and Martha Jane.

The information I found from LDS says she was born in Mercer County and her father was Nicholas Selch. However bible records I found in the Johnson County Library in Franklin IN does not list her among the chidren. Some Civil War letters Eliza's husband wrote her mentions her brother, George Selch. George is not listed among the bible records eather. In the civil war letters it does mention her taking up temporary residence in Hendricks County, IN after their farm was rented out and her husband had purchased a farm in Jefferson County, Iowa. I wonder if she had family in Hendricks County? It does list a Peter Selch in 1840, however it just gives the head of household name.

Would there be any distant cousins out there who would know about the Selchs of Mercer County KY? Any information is appreicated.

Linda

Surnames: ARMSTRONG, BROWN, CECIL, HAMPTON, JONES, MUNDAY, SHERMAN, SLAUGHTER, SNEED#01898
Anne Baker <[email protected]> Sun, 09 Jan 2000
Trying to find the parents of Richard H. Slaughter bc 1823 Ky m 1847 Mercer Co to Mary Jones bc 1827 (dtr of Robert W. Jones & Mary Cecil) - they moved from Mercer Co. in the mid 1850's. Where did they go?

In the 1850's they had children Lucy, Ketura & James - probably others born later.
In 1868, Mary Jones Slaughter is back in Mercer & consents for her daughter Lucy to m George Sherman - then they disappear again before 1870.

This Richard H. Slaughter should be a grandson of either Robert Slaughter or his brother Cadwallader Slaughter.

Robert Slaughter (1758-1826 Mercer) (sd to have first m a Lucy Slaughter) m2nd Mrs. Ruth (Sneed) Munday, widow of Edmund Munday in 1804 Mercer.

Who were Robert's children & grandchildren. He had no children by Ruth -

Cadwallader Slaughter (1756-1816 Mercer) left a widow Sarah ?Hampton who died testate 1828 Mercer leaving personal items to daughter Mildred Ellis & Betsy Brown. Cad. had 7 children: Mildred (1785-1855)m Augustine Ellis, Elizabeth "Betsy" - m John F. Brown 1817, Robert who was living in 1824 in Christian Co., Ky, John H. who was living in Rockcastle Co., Ky in 1824, Nancy m 1810 Dennis Rearden, Edward S. (1795-1839 Mercer) m 1820 Susan Armstrong, Cadwallader, Jr (b aft 1800 & d bef 1824)
