Hugh Cheyne and George B. Cheyne were found on a passenger list, dated 10 June 1912, at New York, New York, USA. The brothers were on a Manifest of Alien Passengers aboard the California, out of Glasgow, 1 June. Hugh was 33, married, born in Edinburgh and a chauffeur; and George was 30, married, born in Dalkeith and a plumber. George had previously been in the United States in 1903 and 1911 in Decatur, Illinois. Both were British Subjects of Scotch race, whose last permanent residence was in Edinburgh. They were joining their brother William Cheyne, 36 Arsenal Street, Saint Louis, Missouri. Their closest relative in Scotland were their wives. Hugh's wife was Nellie Cheyne, 4 Horne Street, Edinburgh; George's, Janet Cheyne, 48 Gilmore Place, Edinburgh.⁵
