Cheyne of the company Foster and Cheyne (19537) and Andrew Cheyne (6176) may have been the same person.

On the 1851 Canada Census five households with Chiens as either head or wife were found in one district on pages 57, 119 and 137. Andrew (6176), 33, and Robert (11591), 31, were neighbors. Robert's wife was a Lockerby. On page 137 John (14523), 51, was a neighbor of Wm. Lockerby whose wife was B. Chein (14525), 33. On page 57 an A. Chein (14542), 29, was married to W. Montgomery. Those five individuals are herein assumed to have been siblings. John may have been the father of the other four. In addition, two younger Cheins, Robert (14524) and James (14541) were in those households with no clear idea of their parentage. Until additional information is found they are herein recorded as siblings (but probably were cousins).
On the 1880 US Census Robert and Andrew Cheyne, ages 59 and 66, were found living next to each other.

Andrew Cheyne married Agnes Morrison 25 March 1845, in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, in Valleyfield, Quebec, Canada.1,6

The baptismal record of James C. Cheyne documented Andrew Cheyne as his father, 21 August 1846, in North Georgetown, Beauharnois, Quebec, Canada. The baptismal entry reads "James Cheyne son of Andrew Cheyne, farmer, and of Agnes Morrison his wife both now residing in North Georgetown, county of Beauharnois was born on March Eighteenth One Thousand Eight Hundred and forty six and was baptized August Twenty first same year by James C. Muir, Min'r. (signed) Andrew Cheyne and Agnes Cheyne".7,8

Andrew Chein listed on the 1851 Canada Census, in Saint Louis de Gonzague, Beauharnois County, Quebec, Canada. He was head of household and a cultivateur. Also in the household were Agnes Morrison, James Chein, Robert Chein, Daniel Chein and Agnes Chein. All family members were Presbyterian. His probable brother, Robert (11591), was listed just after his family.. Andrew was 33 years of age and born in Escosse.9

Andrew Cheyne and his wife Agnes Cheyne were listed on the 1860 United States Census, in Saukville, Ozaukee, Wisconsin, USA. He was head of household and a farm laborer. Also present were his children, James C. Cheyne, Robert Andrew Cheyne, Daniel Morrison Cheyne, Agnes Cheyne, Jeannie Cheyne, George M. Cheyne and Elizabeth Cheyne. Their real estate as valued at $300 and their personal property at $90. All family members were indexed with a surname of Chyne.. He was 46 years old and born in Scotland.5

Andrew Chein and his wife Agnes Chein were listed on the 1870 United States Census, in Georgetown Township, Ottawa, Michigan, USA. He was head of household and a farmer. Also present were his children, Robert Chein, Daniel Chein, Agnes Chein, Jane Chein, George Chein, Eliza Chein, Mary Chein, Bell Chein and Margaret Cheyne. Their real estate as valued at $1700 and their personal property at $1180. Their son, James and his family were listed on the entry before theirs.. He was 59 years old, a citizen of the United States and born in Scotland.4

Andrew Cheyne and his wife Agnes Cheyne were listed on the 1880 United States Census, in Georgetown, Ottawa, Michigan, USA. He was head of household and a farmer. Also present were his children, Catherine Isabella Cheyne, Maggie Cheyne and George M. Cheyne. Living on each side of him were his probable brother, Robert (11591) and son Daniel (6182). He and Robert were both born in Scotland, and both of their parents were also born in Scotland. No link to any known Scottish Cheyne family has yet been determined.2

Andrew Cheyne died 13 December 1883.1

Andrew Cheyne was buried, at Haire Cemetery, in Georgetown, Ottawa, Michigan, USA. He was aged 72 years and buried with his wife and brother, John. The marker is inscribed on four sides, one of which is illegible..1,10
