Patrick Cheyne

      The parentage of Patrick Cheyne (4423) is not known. He was first noticed fathering children in Fyvie, 25 January 1708. He was likely born before OPR's were kept in that parish. He was not found on the 1696 poll.
The people that witnessed his children's baptisms are of the Kennert, Forsyth and Wilson families. That seems to indicate that he may have been this group of Cheynes. One of his witnesses was a Patrick Wederburn. His name also appears with Cheynes in Monquhitter.
There was a Patrick Cheyne (810) in Monquhitter, who fathered a John Cheyne, baptized 17 May 1671. This Patrick may have been his son, possibly born in Fyvie, before the OPR was kept.

Alexander (756), William (1515), Jean (1526), Jean (4414), Samuel (1528), Margaret (4409) and Patrick (4423) Cheynes were probably closely related.¹

The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1685-1764, Frame 139 "Ja'ry 25 (1708) Patrick Cheine in Woodhead of fetterletter had a child baptized called Patrick William Cheine (4410) and Pat. Wederburnd witneffes."²

The baptismal record of George Cheyne documented Patrick Cheyne, in Fetterletter, as his father, 5 April 1710, at Fetterletter, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1685-1764, Frame 151 "Apryll 5 (1710) Peter Cheine in fetterletter had a child baptized called George. George Kenty (4394) George Wilfon witneffes."³

The baptismal record of Margaret Cheyne documented Patrick Cheyne, in Fetterletter, as her father, 19 August 1712, at Fetterletter, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1685-1764, Page 164 “Auguft 19 (1712) Peter Cheine in fetterletter had a child baptized called Margaret William Chein (1515) and James Kennart (4395) witneffes.”.⁴

Patrick Cheyne was a witness at the Christening of Isobel Leith, 23 November 1712, at Fetterletter, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1685-1764, Page 164 “Nov’r 23 (1712) Peter Leith in fetterletter had a child baptized called Iffobell. Andrew Dungal and peter Chein (4423) witneffes.”.⁴

The baptismal record of Barbara Cheyne documented Patrick Cheyne, in Burnhead of Fetterletter, as her father, 2 June 1714, at Burnhead of Fetterletter, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1685-1764, Page 174 "June 2 (1714) Peter Cheine in Burnhead of fetterletter had a child baptized called Barbara William forfyth and James Kenard (4395) witneffes."⁵

James Kennert and Patrick Cheyne were witnesses at the Christening of Marie Simson, 12 February 1715, at Mains of Gight, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1685-1764, Page 179 “feb’r 12 (1715) Thomas Simson in the mains of Gight had a child baptized called Marie James Kenard (4395) and Patrick Chein (4423) witneffes.”.⁶

Patrick Cheyne was a witness at the Christening of Margaret Leith, 22 November 1715, at Fetterletter, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1685-1764, Page 181 “Nov’r 22 (1715) Peter Leith in fetterletter had a child baptized called Margaret Wiliam forfyth & peter chein (4423) witneffes.”.⁷

Patrick Cheyne witnessed the christening of his grand-niece, Rachel Dun, on 21 March 1724, at Macterry at Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Fyvie, 1685-1764, Page 187 March 21 (1724) William Dun in McTerry had a child baptized called Rachel witnefs Peter Chein (4423) and George Ironfyde”.⁸
