  7.  Rachel MCCONNELL

Notes

Original Lists of Protestant Immigrants to SC 1763 to 1773:
Included are Hugh, John, Margaret, George, James, Thomas, Margaret, Thomas, Robert, and Rachel.

Other records show that Robert, Thomas, George and James were brothers and Rachel was their sister. By inference another sister (Margaret?) was the first wife of John Gotea, Jr, as his daughter Eleanor was their niece.

John, James, Hugh and Thomas McConnell served in General Marion's Brigade during the Revolution. ( p 116)

In the 1800 List of Kingstree Lot owners or Heirs: Lot # 70, Thomas McConnell; 71, Robert McConnell; 73 & 74 James Burgess; 75, George McConnell; 105, Thomas McConnell; 104, John Scott. ( p 152)

These are listed as having arrived about 1763, probably at Charleston, in the ship "Prince Henry"; Hugh, John, Margaret, George, Thomas and Names: Margaret, Thomas, Robert, and Rachel McConnell. As Thomas and Margaret are listed twice, it may be that these records were the names of the parents and also of two children.

Later records show that Robert, Thomas, George and James were brothers and Rachel was their sister. By inference another sister (Margaret?) was the first wife of John Gotea, Jr., as his daughter Eleanor was their niece. The relationship of the others is not clear, though they evidently belonged in the family connection. Matthew McConnell who had come over earlier (land grant in 1756) may have also belonged.

Thomas McConnell came from Ireland on the ship Prince Henry and landed in Charleston harbor in 1763. [S192] [S192] [S541] [S1144]
