Patrick MacGregor was quite an outlaw in the Highlands in 1636. His second son, James MacGregor (1645-1724) fought in his father's clan for the cause of King Charles 1. As punishment for fighting with the losing side in this war, members of the MacGregor clan were ordered to change their names. James MacGregor changed his name to Thomas MacGehee.


Another publication, "Descendants of Patrick MacGregor" furnished to me by Mary Gibson of Seguin, Texas in May 2000, claims that one William MackGehee was the son of Patrick and the father of Thomas MackGehee; therefore, I have elected to insert William as the son of Patrick and father of Thomas. In either case, the dates are broad enough to have allowed either situation of occur. [Bill Norwood, October 2000]"
