Oliver Mellowes, born about 1598, died at Braintree, MA in 1638. He was son of Abraham and Martha (Bulkeley) Mellowes. Mary died ca 1632/3. He married 2d, at Boston, co. Lincoln, 1 Jan. 1633/34, Elizabeth (Hawkredd) Coney, baptized at Boston, 8 Dec. 1605, died after 1670, widow of John Coney.

He emigrated with his second wife, Elizabeth, and family in 1632, and became the first pastor of the church at Charlestown, MA.
He left the church in 1636 and settled as a planter in New Haven in 1639. In 1643 he was sent as missionary to Virginia with John Knowles and William Thompson and remained there until banished by Gov. Berkeley; then returned to New Haven, and by 1648 returned to England. He became minister at Needham Market, 1650, and was ejected in 1662, following the Restoration. He continued a nonconformist preacher until his death.

Place of marriage not given, but possibly in CT. He married, 2) on 2 Sept. 1669, Katherine Blux, perhaps the widow of Return Blux of Southampton, NY. His prenuptial contract with his second wife, dated 14 Aug. 1669, is found in Southampton Town Records, Vol. 2, pg 53.
