[11722] This baptismal date may be in error but was found in more than one genealogy. Note that Joseph's father died in 1657 and Margaret married Rev. Francis Doughty by about 1660. The Doughty's had a daughter, born in 1661, the same time-frame in which Joseph Moore was baptized. Is it possible that Joseph was an infant when his father died and his baptism was delayed until she had the child by Doughty?
Joseph More, son of John of Mecox (the minister of Newtown, L.I.), was baptised in New York City in 1661.
He and wife Sarah, with children Joseph, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Mary appear in the 1698 census.
Joseph More of Southampton, Gent., wills, Mch. 21, 1723, to w. Sarah and ch. Elizabeth Sanford, Sarah Cook, Ruth M., Abigail M., gr.s. Daniel (not 21) and gr. sons Caleb and David More. Proved May 30, 1726. This name spelled indifferently Moore and More.
His will is dated 21 March 1723 and has a codicil dated 25 Dec. 1725.
1704, Oct. 26 - Mr. Joseph More of Mecox to Mrs. Ruth Harris ....
Ruth was the second of Mr. Moore's three wives, of whom the first was Sarah Halsey and the third, Sarah _____; she was probably the mother of Mr. Moore's daughters Ruth and Abigail, who were born after 1698 and who were unmarried when he made his will in 1723.

[10711] .
Born near Rockaway, Morris Co., NJ.
USGenWeb online (www.pcmorristown.org/cogwhoswho/page41.html) shows birth date of 2 Mar. 1776, which is in error.
[10714] Using date calculator provided with this program, using date of death and age as stated on tombstone, it would appear that the date of 22 March 1776 is correct.
Loammi Moore, b. 22 March 1776, married Huldah Byram. Loammi "became orphaned at an early age, and was living with his grandfather, Uriah Cutler, not far from Speedwell...."
[10716] Cutler home, an old frame house, was still standing in the summer of 1894, when it was photographed. This copy of Sayre genealogy, reprinted by U. of Michigan microfilm, was not complete. The last half was excluded from this copy, thus there was no index to follow.
Loammi Moore was one of the administrators of the estate of Silas Pierson. Inventory taken Oct. 4, 1824 and was proved on 2 July & 25 Sep 1828. (Apparently Silas was his son-in-law, married to daughter, Sarah Ann).
d. 25 Jun 1841, age 65.3.3....
A house that was in process of removal fell on him, and he was killed June 25, 1841. He and his wife are both buried at the First Presbyterian Church of Morristown, NJ.

[10473] Mary Ann Moore was not included in the family notes of Karen Miller....perhaps because this family moved away from Fayette County? Her birthdate appears to have been the same as William's...only two years apart. Was this an error?
Administrator produces receipt of Wm. Aldridge for his wife. Aldridge lives at a distance of 150 miles from the court and Mary Ann was not present for proceedings.

[10292] Nancy Moore was identified as the wife of Thomas Brock in notes written circa 1930 by my mother's cousin, Jennie Penn, of Batavia, OH. The notes were passed along to me, circa 1970, by another cousin, Gladys Brock, of Portola Valley, CA. Unfortunately, Jennie's handwriting was difficult to decipher and some of the information proved to be incorrect. It took many years of searching before we had an accurate record of the Brock family.
[10297] Information from cousins, Martha Morgan and her sister, Sadie Adams, suggests that Nancy was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, IL. No proof has been found.
[14976] The marriage record of Thomas Brock to Nancy Moore has been incorrectly recorded in the LDS records in Salt Lake City, as well as in the Indiana Magazine of History, vol. 52, 1956. The name was written BEACH, instead of BROCK, and it was many years before we had a letter of correction from the clerk in Fayette Co., IN showing that the entry was Brock, not Beach.
Heirs at law of the said decedent....included Thomas Brock, husband of Nancy Brock, late Nancy Moore...
" Daily Chicago American 1939 - June 11 - died: In this city on the afternoon of the 10th inst., Mrs. Nancy Brock, wife of Thomas Brock, Esq.".
[10296] Because of the great fire in Chicago in the late 1800's, many vital records were destroyed. Reprints from the old newspapers are an extremely important source of information about the early Chicago residents.
"I have begun indexing the early marriage books. There is a marriage for a Thomas Brock to a Nancy Moore on 4 Feb. 1821. I do not know where the original is, but on the top it has Thomas BEACH, but on the bottom it states BROCK. Many such errors were made when the records were copied."
[14975] Marriage record of Thomas Brock to Nancy Moore of Fayette Co, IN, was incorrectly filed under the surname "Beach". Indiana Magazine of History, Vol. 52, 1956, as well as Index to LDS Temple Records, Salt Lake City, UT show this error.

Items 1-3 of this film shows the presence of Rice, Ward, Moore and other related families. Maps show illustrations of land plats. All of these families owned multiple parcels of land. There is also an internet site dealing with the Colonial settlers of Worcester, MA, naming Nathaniel Moore and his brothers-in-law, Gershom & Jonas Rice.
#221. "In Memory of Deacon Nathaniel Moore, who died Nov. 25: A.D. 1761 at age 84 years: Reader. Remember Death." He came from Sudbury. Was the third settler of the town of Worcester, arriving in 1715 or 1716. He was deacon of the first church from its foundation, and remained in that office until his death. Was selectman of the town for eleven years between 1721 and 1740. Town treasurer, 1725 and 1731. He married Grace Rice, sister of Jonas Rice, the first permanent settler. She died in 1768, aged 94 years.
Surname written "More". See also vital records in FHL film #0599521, item 4.

This genealogy puts forth the supposition that Rachel died young. However, she was alive in 1797 when her brother reached the age of 21 and petitioned the court for his share of his father's land.
Entered in Register Book No. 1, Vol VII, by order of the Orphan's Court, Term of July 1797. David Moore died intestate, April 1781. When the oldest son came of age, he requested that his father's plantation be divided among the heirs. These papers show five heirs: Loammi, Rachel, Phebe (Moore) Cozad, Hannah and Daniel, the latter two being minors in 1797.

[10478] Karen Miller gives date of birth for Rachel as 20 Aug. 1811. This does not agree with tombstone readings or the fact that Rachel was in need of a guardian at the time her father's estate was settled in 1832. With birthdate as 1813, given by K. Sutherland, a descendant of Rachel, she would have been age 19 at the time of the estate settlement, thus needing a guardian to handle legal affairs. Rachel must have been underage when she married Laban Bolton in 1833 and he was then able to act for her.
[10480] Little is known about Rachel Moore, except that she was named in her father's estate papers, along with her first husband, Laban Bolton. Info about her second husband, Ellis R. Lake, was included in the genealogical profiles in Barrow's History of Fayette County, IN, 1917. From JWM research, with no date: February term, probate court, Fayette Co., IN, Rachel Lake turns her son (Bolton) over to Samuel Hubbard's guardianship. Since Hubbard appeared more than once in guardianship proceedings for the Moores one wonders about his connection to the family.
Birth date of 20 Aug. 1811 does not appear to be correct.
James Beach petitions on behalf of Rachel Bolton, widow, files for her right to administer husband's estate...
Date discrepancy. There are two entries for Rachel, wife of Ellis Lake. One shows 26 y 6 m and gives death date of 10-16-1839. The second shows birth date of 3-5-1813 and death date of 10-15-1838.
Tombstone reads: In memory of Rachel, wife of Ellis R. Lake, who died Oct. 16, 1839, Aged 26 y, 6 mo & 28 days. Inscription beneath is unreadable in photo.
