There is a short gap in the Sudbury records due to the death of the town clerk; Benjamin married there 11 Nov. 1686 to Dorothy Wright, dau. of Edward, who died Oct. 20, 1717. [10425] Was Daniel born in 1778 or 1779? Dates found on DAR applications differ from one to the next, although all of the women seeking membership in the DAR were of the same line.
Daniel Moore was identified through the records of Fayette Co., IN. He died intestate in 1829 and his children were named in the probate records. Among them was his daughter, Nancy, the wife of Thomas Brock. Some of the children were minors and the guardianship records have been searched.
History of Fayette Co., IN, by Barrows, reports that Daniel Moore was an early settler who came to "Twelve Mile Purchase" in 1809, and after spending one winter in Brookville, settled in Jackson Twp. in March, 1810. This family does not appear in the Indiana census for 1810, but in Mason Co., KY there was a Daniel Moore with the right number of children to be this family.
We think the Moore family left New Jersey in the early 1800's, probably along with other neighbors and friends, and headed south. They were in Mason Co, KY for a time....then moved to Franklin Co., IN, which later became Fayette Co. Daniel was a farmer, but apparently manufactured bricks as well, as noted in his estate papers.
The early New Jersey records revealed the presence of many men named Daniel Moore.... in Hunterdon Co., Cumberland Co., Monmouth Co., Middlesex Co., and Essex Co. In Essex, NJ there was at least one Loyalist named Daniel Moore. Other families identified as Loyalists were Lake, Anderson and Sutton. Note that the Moore children intermarried with Lake & Sutton, so there were probably connections between the families while they were still living in New Jersey.
In later generations, the name Anderson appeared as a given name in more than one generation of Moore descendants. We explored various Anderson families, hoping to find a connection. We now believe that Daniel's step-father was Eliakim Anderson and, if so, the children were likely named after him.
During the Rev. War there were Quaker pacifists named Moore in Amwell, NJ. They tried to distance themselves from the conflict but were fined for refusing to pay taxes to support the war. Among these pacifists were a Daniel and Joseph Moore.
Date discrepancy? Handwritten page gives date of 9 Oct. 1779. Another page, typewritten and showing Rev. War Service, gives date of birth for Daniel as 21 Oct. 1778. Which date is correct?
Jill McGlinchey gives yet another birthdate for Daniel Moore: 12 Oct. 1778 in NJ.
[10424] Again, nobody seems to know just where in New Jersey Daniel was born!
Daniel Moore of Mason Co., KY, purchased 93 acres from John Pattison, Sr. of Bracken Co., KY, 22 Jan 1803 for $279.00. With wife, Mary, sold the same property to Lucy Botts on 3 Mar. 1806. No other deeds for Daniel Moore in Bracken Co.
There were at least six Daniel Moore families in Kentucky in 1810. This family is believed to be ours.
Familly of Daniel Moore in 1820: Males 3/3/1/1/1/ _ 2; Females 2/1/ _ _ 1.
[10430] Need to look at old forms and record ages.
Record of first land purchased in Fayette Co.....deed dtd 10 Feb. 1824 between George Adams of Franklin Co., IN and Daniel Moore of Fayette Co....
Jill McGlinchey uses date of 30 Aug. 1829 for death of Daniel and gives place as Bracken Co., KY, although Daniel is known to have died in Fayette Co. Burial site has not been located.

Obit, included in these papers, shows birthdate of 9 Oct. 1805. Which date is correct?
Bk B, Nov. Term 1832. Stephen Moore, Administrator, files receipts from heirs, including Daniel Moore, guardian of his sister, Rachel.
Daniel Moore was born in Bracken Co., KY, October 9th, 1805. Moved to the Territory of Indiana on the first 12 mile purchase in 1809. Lived one winter in Brookville, after which he removed to what is now Jackson Twp., Fayette Co, near Everton, in March 1810, at which place he resided until his death, which occurred September 20, 1882. He married Mary Sherwood, November 1825, who with five grown daughters and two grown sons are left to mourn his departure. He was always a consistent Democrat. The deceased was the oldest citizen in Jackson Twp., and enjoyed the esteem and respect of all who knew him.

[10686] While various sources have given Morris Co., NJ as the place of birth for David Moore, it seems likely that the birth occurred on Long Island. From all accounts, his parents were living on Long Island during the mid-1700's. Further research should be centered around the church records of Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY.
[10700] There are discrepancies in the records regarding the death of David Moore. DAR Patriot Index shows post 1790 and a later version of this index shows post 1793.
The genealogist hired by Ola Masters shows a David Moore in the 1790 census for Mecklenburg Co., NC and it was assumed that he died there. From printed will abstracts and court minutes, it would appear that there were at least three men named David Moore in Mecklenburg Co., NC in 1790... one with a wife named Margaret, another with a wife named Agnes, and a third with a wife named Ann. A David Moore with a wife named Rachel has not been located.
Many records now in print would not have been available to search in the early 1920's when Ola Masters was applying for DAR membership, and microfilms of actual records were unheard of during that time-frame.
It is our belief that we have identified the proper David Moore. He died intestate and an inventory of his estate was taken on 5 Apr. 1781, so his death would have occurred shortly before that date. Since there was no will, his wife, Rachel, was granted letters of administration on 10 April 1781. The estate papers (Packet 529N, Morris Co., NJ, recorded in Liber M, pg 70) show David's residence as Hanover, Morris Co., NJ, and, at this time, it is assumed that he died there, rather than in North Carolina.
The children of David were not identified at the time of his death. In 1797, when the oldest son, Loammi, reached the age of 21, he petitioned the Orphan's Court for a division of his father's property. Printed excerpts from guardianship records identify five children (Loammi, Phoebe, Rachel, Hannah and Daniel). The actual papers have now been located by a researcher in Morris County (Morris County Surrogate's Office, Docket File 4-65, Orphan's Court Term of July 1797). A map included in the file shows the division of property among the five heirs.
[15503] There are five children of record for David Moore. The first three children were of his first wife, Bethia Cutler: Rachel, b. 1771; Phoebe, b. 1772; and Loammi, b. 1776. After the death of Bethia, David married 2d) ca 1777, Rachel Haden, and had Daniel and Hannah, both of whom were minors in 1797 when Loammi Moore came of age and petitioned the Orphan's Court for division of his father's plantation.
Another child, Nathaniel, mentioned in Rev. John Moore of Newtown, Long Island, has not been located in New Jersey records. He could have been a child who died young or perhaps was assigned to the wrong family.
Many researchers show other children: Nancy, who married Nathaniel Dickerson, and Stephen, who married Rhoda Dickerson. All of the researchers cite Percy Crayon's book on the records of Rockaway, NJ. Both of these couples relocated to Essex Co, New York. Nancy and Stephen are thought to have been the children of Silas Moore, brother of David. The given names Nancy and Stephen have been carried down through other generations of Moores.
The Sayre genealogy seems to have the correct lineage for David, as well as his brother, Silas.
Died in NC but buried in Rockaway, NJ. DAR member numbers 240560, 144433. This info from JWM's research notes, LDS trip, Apr. 2004; e-mail attachment, dtd 11 Oct. 2004.
[10683] David Moore died by 1781 so he could not have been the man living in NC when the 1790 census was taken.
On same page with his father, David's birthdate shown as 11-25-1749 in NJ with marriage to Bathia Cutler and Rachel Haden.
[10685] If his father never left NY, how was David b. in NJ? This record may be part of the myth that has spread about David's lineage.
David Moore appears as witness on will of Silas Moore of Hanover, Liber 19, p. 143, 17 Sep. 1776....
Served in Captain Josiah Hall's Company, Colonel Sylvanus Seely's Eastern Battalion, Morris County New Jersey Militia.
....enrolled in Capt. Hall's Company were residents of Denville, Franklin, Rockaway, Parsippany, Boonton, Morris Plains and Beach Glen. Among those named were: Daniel Dickerson, Nathaniel Dickerson, Eliakim Anderson, Zachariah Hayton (Hayden?), Stephen Losey as well as David Moore. All of the above were in some way connected to the Moore family or families in Morris Co., NJ.
Service record shows that David More (with that spelling) served only four days, apparently between Dec. 28, 1776 and Jan. 2, 1777 and was paid a subsistance for marching (30 miles out and 19 miles in) and was discharged at "Baskenrige" under Col. Winds.
Early Morris County tax lists (1778-1780) show the presence of David Moore of Hanover Twp., Morris Co.
This source gives place of death as NC, but he was buried in NJ.
[10696] This date of death may be wrong. Wynne found an administration dtd 1781 for David More of Hanover, Morris Co, NJ, fellowbondsman, Nathaniel Hayden. There is an inventory in addition to the administrator's bond, apparently nothing more. If David died as early as 1781, which children were from Bethia and which were the children of Rachel? Need to find marriage and death records.
I:164 - David Moore, of Hanover Twp, deceased, intestate (Orphans' Court March 1797).... son, Laomini, given one half of the plantation. Other heirs named as children (all his children): Rachel, Phebe Cosad, Daniel Moore and Hannah Moore, two being minors. Commissioners: Silas Condict, Job Allen and Joseph Halsey. June 24th 1797. (Court Minutes; Inv.; 4:65 - Map.)
Letters of Administration granted by his excellency Governor Livingston, Esq., Rachel More (with that spelling) Administratrix of the estate of David More, late of the county of Morris, deceased, she being duly sworn hereby to administer the same.....(remainder unreadable, but signed 10 April 1781). Fellow bondsman was Nathaniel Hayden.

[10443] E-mail from JWM, dtd 23 Mar. 2004: There was a David Moore who settled in Niles Twp., Delaware Co., IN about 1835 (per county history of 1881). He is on the census 1850-1880. He is buried in Granville Cem., which is in Section 32 of Niles Twp.
The cem record, posted on US GenWeb site for Delaware Co. says: David Moore d. 31 Aug. 1890, age 88 y, 8 m, 22 d. That works out to a computed birth date of 09 Dec. 1801. Family information from Karen Miller says 10 Dec. 1801. I think that's close enough, as the bible record or transcript could have been misread. Census records say he was b. in NJ, parents also b. NJ.
Family consisted of wife, Sarah, b. 05 Apr. 1805; d. 04 Oct. 1882, b. DE. and children: Lucinda, b. ca 1830; Mary A, ca 1832; Azariah, ca 1834; Margaret Jane, ca 1837; Elizabeth Sarah, ca 1840; Anderson, ca 1842; Isabelle, ca 1845. Isabelle seems to have married "Archable" Neff by 1880; they are living next to David in that census.
