     Robert Gray was born, about 1850, in King Edward or Monquhitter Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. No IGI birth record was found.1,2

Robert Gray married Christian Cheyne 5 November 1870, in accordance with the procedures of the Congregational Church, at 6 Church Street, in New Pitsligo, Tyrie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The marriage record listed Robert Gray as age 20, an apprentice mason, residing at 52 High Street, New Pitsligo, Tyrie Parish. His parents were confirmed to have been as recorded herein.2

Robert Gray was listed as a boarder in the household of William Lumsden on the 1871 British Census at 6 Church Street, in New Pitsligo, New Pitsligo Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was also listed as employed as a journeyman mason. He was married and his wife Christina Gray MS Cheyne, housekeeper, and son, William L. Gray, were present. M0; house painter and gardener.3

Robert Gray and his wife Christian Gray were listed on the 1891 British Census, at 22 Ashvale Place, in Aberdeen, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a stonecutter. Also present were his children, William Lumsden Gray, Robert Gray, Maggie J. Gray, Christian Gray, John C. Gray, Jemima D. Gray and Isabella Gray. He was listed as 48 years of age and born in Monquhitter Parish.6

Robert Gray and his wife Christina Gray were listed on the 1901 British Census, at 26 Ashvale Place, in Aberdeen, Holburn, Old Machar Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was head of household and a mason. Also present were his children, William Lumsden Gray, Maggie J. Gray, Elizabeth Gray, Christian Gray, John C. Gray, Jemima D. Gray, Isabella Gray and Winifred Gray. He was indexed as 31 years of age (it probably read 51) and born in Monquhitter Parish.7
