     John Simpson Cheyne was born, about 1879. He may have been born in or near Leith.1

John Simpson Cheyne was found on a list of military personnel dated 30 November 1917 in Nottingham, Nottingham, England. He enlisted in the military 3 December 1915, but did not begin his service history until 22 May 1917 and was discharged 193 days later, 30 November 1917, marked "no longer fit for war service" and "conduct good during short service". He was a private in the Labour Corp and 38 years of age at the time of discharge. His medical report listed him as having had reninitis since infancy in Leith. He was planning to reside at 3 East Thomas Street, Edinburgh.1
