She was 16 years of age and born in Deptford.¹

Edith Francis Aldred married James John Cheyne about 1906.³ Edith Francis Cheyne witnessed the probate of the estate of James John Cheyne on 29 January 1909 at London, England.⁴

Edith Francis Cheyne was listed on the 1911 England Census, at 32 Merton Road, in London, Wimbledon, Surrey, England. She was head of household and a confection shopkeeper. She was listed as 26 years old, a widow, who had been married for three and one half years and born in Deptford. Her parents, Charles Robert Aldred and Isabella Aldred, and sister, Lillian Maude Aldred, were also present.²

Edith Francis Cheyne and Lillian Maude Aldred were found on a passenger list, dated 2 June 1912, at New York, New York, USA. They were listed on a Manifest of Alien Passengers aboard the Philadelphia, out of Southampton, 25 May 1912. Edith was 27 and a widow; Lillian 24 and single, otherwise all information was the same for both. Both were employed as a confectioners, born in Deptford, English race and last address, Balham, England. Their closest relative was a brother, S.A. Aldred, 5 Chestnut Grove, Balham, England and going to join a cousin, James Fraser in Chicago.³
