Children of JAMES MORGAN and MARY DAVIS are:
ii. MILES7 MORGAN, b. Hartford County, Maryland.
iii. PERMINTER MORGAN, SR, b. 29 August 1755, Hartford County,
Maryland; d. 28 April 1824, Rutherford County, North Carolina.
iv. SARAH MORGAN, b. 07 December 1757, Hartford County,
Maryland.
v. JAMES MORGAN, b. 26 April 1760, Hartford County, Maryland.
On the other hand, Rev. Permenter Morgan, was the oldest child
of James and Mary "Polly" Davis Morgan, who was born 29 August
1755 in Harford Co., Maryland (outside Baltimore), where his
birth along wiht the marraige and birth of his two younger
siblings was recorded in the St. George Parish records. Sister
Sarah Morgan was born 7 December 1757, and James Morgan, Jr was
born there 26 April 1760.
The Morgan family migrated to old Rowan Co., NC about 1764. The
portion of that county they lived in later became part of
Guilford and then Randolph Co., NC. 'Menter Morgan appears on
the 1779 taxlist in Randolph Co., NC along with his father James
Morgan.
About 1785, Rev. Permenter Morgan along with his wife Gracie
Jones Morgan and several small children moved to Rutherford Co.,
NC to establish Baptist churches and spread the Baptist Gospel.
In 1785, Rev. Permenter Morgan and the Rev. Humphrey Posey
established Bill's Creek Baptist Church. Please note that the
History of Bill's Creek Baptist Church, compiled by Mrs. W. E.
Shropshire in 1979, is filled with some erroneous information.
By 1789, Permenter had also established Mountain Creek Baptist
Church. Later in life Rev. Permenter Morgan established old
Bethel Baptist church (which now is in McDowell Co., NC, formed
in 1842, from part of Rutherford and a smaller portion of old
Burke Co., NC).
He died 28 April 1824 and is buried at old Bethel Baptist as is
his wife Gracie and several of his children along with numerous
