Listed as "baby" (male) on 1900 census (enumerated 21jun 1900). There is no other record of this child, but perhaps Omaha birth records should be checked. Family indicates this child as Boyce, but another family member understood it as "Boy".
He may have been the Georg Victor age 22, from Pyritz, who departed from Hamburg, bound for New York, on the ship Frisia, on 12 oct 1881, arriving in New York on 31 oct 1881 (where he is listed as Jeorg Victor).
The George Victor who arrived in 1881 appears to be the same man who was living in Omaha, Nebraska in 1900 (lodger with the John Bamford family, naturalized citizen, born in October 1858, parents born in Germany and France, bar supplies salesman). He remained in Omaha until his death in 1934. In 1902 he, married Harriet Victoria Dewar, born in Canada. They had a son Dewar B., born about 1905. The 1920 census says George and his wife were naturalized in 1906, but this is not consistent with the 1900 census. He died in Omaha in 1934 and is buried at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park in Omaha. Dewar B. Victor had a son George Dewar Victor born 22 jun 1938, died at Coos Bay, Coos Co., Oregon 20 nov 1995. Harriet died 09 sep 1938 in Omaha, age 63. Dewar B. Victor died 18 apr 1980, in San Patricio, Co., Texas, survived by his wife, n�e Bethel Haas.
George Victor obtained a patent in 1910 for a "Billiard-Table Cushion" (Patent No. 951,410). A notice of hotel guests arriving in Salt Lake City in June, 1891 includes a George Victor from Omaha, so it appears he was already in Omaha at least as early as that year (Salt Lake Tribune, 12 jun 1891). On June 28, he was noted at the Overland Hotel in Boise, Idaho (Idaho Statesman, Boise). By 19 jul 1891, he had reached the Golden Eagle Hotel in Sacramento (Record-Union, Sacramento, California). By August 2, he had returned to Omaha: "George Victor has just returned from a three months' business trip through Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, Montana and California" (Omaha Daily Bee).
His presence in Omaha raises an interesting question. He was a second cousin of Walter Moses Victor, who had lived in Omaha since at least the late 1880's. Did they know each other? No mention of relatives of any kind from that period has survived among Walter's descendants.
Directory listings in Long Beach, CA: 1929, Mrs. Gertrude McCoy, waitress, Leighton's Coffe Shop, home 1079D American Ave.; 1930, Mrs. Gertrude McCoy, waitress, Patty's Broiler, residence 1069 Cedar Ave. 1930 Census shows her rooming at 1069 Cedar Ave., divorced, age 26, waitress at restaurant.
Information from the Borchardt family, as seen on a MyHeritage web site. Information includes a photograph of the tombstone of Julie and her husband (Jewish Cemetery Sch�nhauser Allee, Berlin, Germany, Field K-G, Row 17, Hereditary Grave 335, Plot 20296), which states that she was born in Pyritz 13 dec 1829, and the date of her marriage to Abraham Adolph Burchardt. The tree also includes her parents (as given here) and, notably, her siblings, matching our list except for the omission of Hanna or Johanna, and Pauline. It is possible that the Borchardt family is or was in possession of family records or other documents; notably, the tombstone gives her name only as Henriette Victor, and the same tree adds the name Samuel to Salomon, son of Michael Victor.
There is some doubt about the parentage of Julie. We found the betrothal notice in 1849, in which her father was identified as M. Salomon Victor, presumably referring to Michaelis Victor. However, not all of the Burchardt family records on the internet do not seem to support this idea. We are unable to rule out either of the possibilities, which are complicated by the possibility that Victor Salomon Victor also used the name Moses Salomon Victor.
A notice from M. Salomon Victor and his unnamed wife, announcing the betrothal of their daughter Henriette Victor to Adolph Burchardt, held at Pyritz on 24 jan 1849, appeared in a Berlin newspaper (K�niglich privilegirte Berlinische Zeitung von Staats- und gelehrten Sachen, 27 jan 1849). Adolph and Henriette are buried in the Jewish cemetery in Schoenhauser Allee, Berlin: Henriette Burchardt geb. Victor, born at Pyritz 13 dec 1829, died at Berlin 08 mar 1885; Adolph Burchardt, born at Sonnenburg (now Słońsk, Poland) 19 mar 1823, died at Berlin 06 dec 1900. Adolph, and later his sons, ran a "Tapetenfabrik".
The death records of Henriette and her husband do not seem to have survived. One internet version of this family calls her Julie Henriette Charlotte Victor
We identify him as the son of "M. S." Victor because he was living in Pyritz at the same address as the widow Victor born Philippi in the list of 1865, no. 58 Strattmerstrasse. By that time, Louis had married (the name of his wife not clearly legible on the list of 1865) and had five children, with birthdates apparently ranging from about 1853 to 1865. On the 1853 list, he was still single, a merchant, with an apprentice Leopoldt Freidenberg, age 15.
There are scattered mentions of a Louis Victor in late 19th Century newspapers and other records of Cincinnati, Ohio. We wondered if perhaps the Louis Victor found in the records of Pyritz might have ended up in Cincinnati. So far, there is very little information about the man in Cincinnati. The best citation to date is an editorial in the Cincinnati Enquirer, Sunday, 05 nov 1893, concerning Democratic candidates for the Ohio State Legislature. Among them was a Louis Victor, a shoe-cutter and foreman at the Sachs & Gerstler Shoe Company, who had retired from this job upon his nomination. Also in the same newspaper, 26 jan 1902, we note a Louis Victor among the baseball players of the Shoe and Leather League, representing Krohn, Fechheimer, & Co. The Krohn in question was Irwin MIchael Krohn (1869-1948), son of Moses Krohn (born about 1838 in Pyritz, lived in Saugerties, NY before moving to Cincinnati, where he died in 1905), in turn a son of Itzig Krohn and Ernestine Dobrin, of Pyritz, Prussia. In other words, it is now clear that the Krohn family in Cincinnati would have known the Victor family from Pyritz. Our Solomon Victor claimed to have been living in Cincinnati in 1870, but it is not yet clear how early Louis Victor settled there. An obituary for Irwin Michael Krohn, also in the Cincinnati Enquirer, 12 dec 1948, says that Moses had been the mayor of Saugerties, NY, and that the family moved to Cincinnati when Irwin Michael was about 5 years old, thus about 1874. A directory for Cincinnati from 1871 shows Louis Victor as a partner in the firm of Victor and Liebman (the other partner was Jacob L. Liebman), furnishing goods, 37 West Pearl Street, residence 67 Hopkins. Nearby was (J.) Victor, (M. B. and L. ) Bettmann, & Co., at 12 West Pearl Street. The firm of Victor and Liebman may be significant, for there is a marriage license in Auglaize Co., Ohio in 1900 for Louis Lewin of Chicago and Helena B. Victor of Cincinnati. Helena, according to the marriage license, was born in Cincinnati 22 feb 1874, the daughter of Louis Victor and Bertha "Lieberan" or "Liebenan". We think this is more likely an error for Liebman. However, on the 1880 census of Cincinnati, we found "Birdie" Victor with several children, including Helena (correct age), but Louis Victor was not present, and the notations indicate that both parents had been born in Hesse. So, this family is likely not ours, and Louis is likely the one who was born about 1836 in Hesse-Darmstadt (the name of the city in the Hamburg passenger lists looks like Alzly, not very clear, probably should be Alzey, near Worms), arrived in New York on the Germania 07 sep 1863, along with Bertha Liebmann (at that time, unmarried, but apparently traveling alone or with Louis, they are listed together on both the arrival and the departure passenger lists). Jacob Liebmann (from Alzey, internet sources gives dates 1842-1900) was already in Cincinnati as early as 1864 (directory entry); Bertha was presumably a sister or cousin of Jacob. Thus, in spite of the coincidence of names, there is so far no evidence to support the idea that the Louis Victor family in Cincinnati was related to our Solomon, and we have found no evidence that he knew anyone else who had settled in Cincinnati before 1870. What became of the Louis Victor of Pyritz remains a mystery.
We found a definite mention of our Louis Victor in the Amtsblatt der Regierung in Stettin, issue of 16 mar 1860, p. 52, under the section heading Personal-Chronik: "Als Agenten best�tigt: ... Der Kaufmann Louis Victor zy Pyritz als Agent der vaterl�ndischen Hagel-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft zu Elberfeld f�r die Stadt Pyritz und deren Umgegend". In a later issue, 20 apr 1860, p. 82, a similar notice: "Der Essig-Fabrikant Schreiber zu Pyritz, an Stelle des Kaufmanns Louis Victor daselbst als Agent der vaterl�ndischen Feuer-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft zu Eberfeld f�r die Stadt Puritz und deren Umgegend".
We also found a notice for the betrothal or engagement: Ostsee-Zeitung und B�rsen-Nachrichten der Ostsee, issue of 02 jul 1853: "Verlobungs-Anzeigen. Die Verlobung unserer zweiten Tocheter Jenny mit dem Kaufmann Herrn Louis Victor aus Pyritz zeigen hiermit statt sonderen Meldung an Wollin, den 30 Juni 1853. — G. Reinhardt und Frau. Als Verlobte empfehlen sich: Jenny Reinhardt, Louis Victor." (Wolin is an island and town in the West Pomeranian Viovodeship, Poland.)
