A memorial inscription that could only be his gives his age at death as 74 years. However, the age seems too high, given the fact that his mother's first husband seems to have been alive as late as 1504. Or, was he actually the son of Daniel Meyer's first wife, a puzzle that is still not resolved? He was Avoyer of the district of Morat 1555-1560 (office alternating every 5 years between Bern and Fribourg), and he was Seigneur or Conseigneur of Carrouge from before 1564 until his death. He is mentioned in the marriage contract of his nephew Nicolas, son of Franz Meyer, 1560 (cited in volumes of extracts relating to notable families of Fribourg, AEF "Notes historiques extraites des archives cantonales de Fribourg et relatives aux familles de cette ville", 2 volumes; the reference for the marriage contract appears to be a register of the notary Hans Hecht dit Batscher covering the years 1552-1560).
The following epitaph is from the pen of Guillaume Techtermann:
Proxima Nicoleos habet hic monumenta sepulchri
Meyerum clarae nobilitatis honos,
Triginta et septem vitae geminaverat annos,
Justitiae cultor, Religionis amans.
Proximus huic de fratre nepos, haeresque Joannes
Meyerus, generis lausque, decusque sui,
Clarus apud proceres belli dux atque senator
Haec statuit mentis lucida signa piae.
(Cited from a paper found in the private archives of the Tectermann family at Bionnens, Tobie de Raemy, "Le chancelier Techtermann", in Archives de la soci�t� d'histoire du canton de Fribourg, 10:383-428, 1908. The construction "triginta et septem vitae geminaverat annos", literally "he had doubled thirty-seven years of life", is based on a poetical turn of phrase in Ovid's Tristia; Nicolas was "twice thirty-seven", thus 74 years old when he died, if the inscription can be believed.)
Is the epitaph intended to imply that Jean Meyer (or Hans, depending on the fluctuating linguistic politics of Fribourg) was the next of kin of Nicolas, which would make us think Nicolas had no children of his own? Or merely that both men were buried next to the monument for which the epitaph was intended? Certainly the wording makes Jean Meyer the moral successor of Nicolas. Guillaume Techtermann (1551-1618), son of Pancrace Techtermann (d. 1599) and Elizabeth de Brandenburger (d. 1604), had a brother Pancrace Techtermann who married Barbe Meyer in 1591. Barbe or Barbille Meyer was a niece of the Jean/Hans Meyer who died in 1612.

Extract of his marriage contract in AEF "Notes historiques extraites des archives cantonales de Fribourg et relatives aux familles de cette ville", 2 volumes. The original source appears to be a register of the notary Hans Hecht dit Batscher covering 1552-1560. Another record, dated 1599, from a register of Antoine de Montenach, 1593-1607, gives the (surviving) children by each wife. In the marriage record of 1560, the surname of the wife is Velliard; in 1599 it is Alt, the German equivalent of Velliard. The surname changed because of linguistic politics in Fribourg.

It is tempting to think that he was the father of Antoine and Nicolas Meyer, brothers, whose marriage contracts were recorded in 1598 and 1601, respectively, without indication of their parentage. Both were soldiers about the time of their marriages and both appear a few years later in official functions of the city of Fribourg. They were probably born about 1570-1575.

1698 refugee census of Aigle has "Le Sr. Pierre Meyer Marchand de Queyras en Dauph. aa. d'env. 35 a, et sa femme qui est de Morges aa d'env. 30 a, avec trois gar�ons" ages 10, 7, and 4. However, he may not be the brother of Louis and of Gaspard, father of Daniel. He could be a brother of Daniel. The name of his second wife, the one from Morges, is known from the marriage record at Morges.

Her husband's testament says that she also left a testament which left money to her children, but we have been unable the latter document. Since she died in Lausanne, the testament should logically be among those probated before the city council of Lausanne (ACV Bg 13bis), where her husband's testament is indeed found. However, her testament is not found in that series.
Another possibility is that it was recorded in the minutes of the "cour inf�rieure", which seems to include at least a few testaments or similar documents. Or, it may be that the document in question was not technically a testament, but rather a donation, in which case it should have been "homologu�e" before one of the "cours de justice". Her husband's testament was a holograph, so we cannot use the obvious research strategy of looking at the records of the same notary used by her husband.
