There are several mentions of François Demont and his brothers Rod and Pierre in the terrier ACV Fn 343, in connection with property held in 1591 by Annaz Gervais and by Jean Duthey, whose mother was Claudaz daughter of François Demont. These brothers also had unnamed nephews, but from the chronology it appears that the François with brothers Rod and Pierre must be the father of Claudaz.
He is probably the "Spectable" Guillaume DeMont mentioned as a neighboring property owner at the hamlet of Le Plan in Moudon, 16 sep 1660 (Pierre Gavin, notary, ACV DL 45). The title is explained by the marriage contract dated 01 jul 1669 (Benoit Giraudet, notary at Moudon, ACV DL 50/4), for Abraham son of Spectable Guillaume DeMont, régent d'école et bourgeois de Moudon. Guillaume's career might have taken him to another town, which could explain the absence of his son Abraham's baptism at Moudon. He is listed once in the church records of Moudon, 29 feb 1648, as "chantre" or cantor, as well as "second régent".
The contract for Guillaume's marriage was located in the register of Jaques Jaquier, notary at Moudon (ACV DL 52/1 fol. 172, dated 28 may 1620; the contract gives the bride's surname as Poyterlin, a name familiar in Moudon, even though other records confirm that the name should have been Poitevin, from Lausanne). Now that we know that Guillaume's wife's step-father, Pierre Jénin, was a professor at the Académie de Lausanne, we can begin to glimpse the outlines of his career. Guillaume was probably educated at the Académie and became acquainted with his wife's step-father there. His wife had other relatives in Lausanne, and we might guess that some family events would be recorded there in the church records. Further, he was, like his wife's step-father, a school teacher, and likely held such a position during the 1620's, before he was able to secure a post in his home town of Moudon. Might Jénin have recommended him for a position at Cossonay, the same post that Jénin held in 1609? We are probably missing the names of at least three or four of his children born between 1620 and 1630.
There is, however, a settlement among his heirs dated 03 oct 1672, recorded by Pierre Gavin, notary at Moudon (ACV DL 45/1). The settlement names his widow Sara Poitevin, sons Daniel and Abraham, and daughters Marie (wife of David Bullod, perhaps of the family usually spelled Bulloz), Anne (wife of Moyse DuPerron), and Sara, still unmarried. A further settlement recorded by the same notary (ACV DL 45/4, dated 10 may 1673) also mentions Jean Poitevin, citizen of Lausanne and uncle of the children of Guillaume, and Jaques Bussigny of Moudon, their cousin.
Testament of Jaques Mont, cordonnier of Moudon, dated 1496, copy in municipal archives of Moudon (M 58 1962), names 5 sons "and the others if there are any".
He and his widow are mentioned in some of the terriers of Moudon, e.g. ACV Fn 347 (1592), in the indefinite past. The most definite citation located so far is in the reconnaissance of the heirs of Anthoine son of Maurice Dutoit, fol. 110, where we find property that had previously been recognized (probably in a terrier compiled by François Collomb) by Pierre Demond Escoffier acting for Françoyse widow of Jehan Demont his uncle, daughter of the late Pierre Decoster.
