There is considerable confusion about the wives of Christopher Myers Bryant. The name Mayfield comes from family records of uncertain origin. The death certificate (transcript obtained in 2001) of William Cleaster Bryant, d. 1917, gives his mother's name as Mayfose. We see two possibilities: either Melinda Beard was actually a widow whose maiden name was Mayfield, Mayrose, etc., or else she was Christopher's second wife and not the mother of the earliest children, including William.
Marriage record calls him the son of Discret Pierre Mayor of Ballens. No other record is known.

On 09 oct 1716, Marc Estienne Mayor d'Aubonne sells property inherited from his father Benjamin Mayor to his uncle Estienne Gabriel Mayor of Mollens. On 06 oct 1716, Anne Mayor wife of Estienne Gabriel Mayor has a dispute with Marc Estienne Mayor her nephew over this estate. On 05 jul 1717, Marc acts on behalf of an unnamed brother and sister, and references his uncle the Curial of Aubonne (Jean George).

Lecture est faite d'une lettre dat�e de Ballens le 5e Janvier courant, et sign� Monod, Greffier, par laquelle nous somme inform�s que Georgette n�e Mayor femme du citoyen Jean fils de feu Abram Marcel, petit Bourgeois de Lausanne, �tant d�c�d�e en Am�rique, o� elle s'�tait rendue en 1805 avec son mari, laissant quatre enfans qui sont propri�taires ri�re Ballens de quelques petits fonds provenant de feu leur m�re, et que la Justice de Paix du dit lieu n'ayant pas jug� convenable de donner un tuteur aux dits enfans, nous sommes avis�s de cette circonstance, v� les droits des dits enfans � la Bourgeoisie de Lausanne. Sur quoi d�lib�rant nous avons d�cid� qu'il serait �crit un r�ponse que v� que les dits enfans ont conserv� leur pr�c�dent domicile de droit et que la situation des fonds qui leur proviennent de leur m�re ne peut permettre la nomination d'un tuteur � Lausanne � cause des frais d'administration qui en r�sulteraient, nous prions la Justice de Paix de Ballens de pourvoir � cette tutelle selon sa prudence.
Since it would certainly take weeks for the news of her death to reach Switzerland, we can assume that Georgette must have died no later than November, 1809. It is assumed that further mentions will be found in the records of the notaries of the district of Aubonne about 1810 — in particular, those of the notary Jaques Monod whose records survive from this period, very probably the same Monod of Ballens mentioned above.
The date 08 jan 1810 has become established as her death date in the Ancestral File and other American sources likely because of a misunderstanding of the French version of a document in the Marcel dossier at the Archives de la Ville de Lausanne. The text says, "Le 8 janvier 1810, Georgette Marcel n�e Mayor est d�c�d�e..." (leaving four children, etc.). Without knowledge of the account in the Proc�s-verbaux, above, we would be tempted to translate this as "The 8th of January 1810, Georgette Marcel n�e Mayor died". However, the grammatical situation is actually the past perfect tense, which should be rendered in English as "Georgette Marcel has died", with the implication that her death occurred sometime prior to the date given. The true date of her death was undoubtedly included in correspondence received by the authorities in Ballens, but it was apparently not communicated to Lausanne.
[1577] Date given as 08 jan 1810 in Ancestral File (based on information from the archivist of Lausanne), but another group sheet submitted for IGI (batch 5007003, film #1553353) has 1812 Lexington, KY! Actual date must be no later than November, 1809.

This is the Antoine de Vernay alias Mayor who acknowledged property 28 oct 1506 in the terrier ACV FH 137. He was the son of the late Michel son of the late Antoine, and Michel also had a brother Pierre whose heir was Jacobo Mayor, who made a similar reconnaissance in the same terrier.
