Nellie Ruth "Jan" (Lane) Ingle GATE CITY, Va. — Nellie Ruth "Jan" Ingle, 79, Gate City, Va., went to be with Jesus on Friday (July 25, 2008) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Ingle was born in Scott County, Va. on March 28, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Ira Lane and Nora Dockery Lane. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Midway Baptist Church in the Midway community. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Ingle; and brothers, Fred and Edward Lane. Surviving are her daughters, Betty Fields and husband, Johnny, Church Hill, Wanda Kern and husband, Cecil, Duffield, Va., JoAnn Duncan and husband, David, Duffield, Va., Frieda Clark and husband, Steve, Church Hill and Judy Williams and husband, Danny, Gate City, Va.; a son, Ray Ingle, Coeburn, Va.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Lawson and husband, Charles, Gate City, Va., and Ethel Frasier, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; brothers, Burin Lane and wife, Reba, Ft. Blackmore, Va., James Lane and wife, Gracie and Bill Lane, all of Ft. Blackmore, Va.; her special caregiver, her granddaughter, Leslie Ingle; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her sister, Lucille Lawson. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. George Willis, the Rev. Coy Butler and the Rev. Cecil Kern officiating. The Midway Choir will provide the music. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Lane Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Times-News William Joseph Isaacs COLUMBIA, S.C. — William Joseph Isaacs, 64, passed away on Friday (Jan. 23, 2009). Joe was born in Nickelsville, Va., the son of the late F.A. and Rena Tyree Isaacs, but lived and worked most of his adult life in Columbia, S.C. Mr. Isaacs was a graduate of the College of William and Mary and the University of South Carolina School of Law. Mr. Isaacs had a long and outstanding legal career. As Chief of the Consumer Fraud and Anti-Trust Section of the Attorney General’s Office during the McLeod Administration, as well as creator of its Child Support Division, he was a champion of the unrepresented. After leaving the Attorney General’s Office in 1983, he was in private practice for over 25 years and founded the firm of Isaacs and Alley. He earned the "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell in recognition of the highest legal ability and ethical standards. As a public and private lawyer, his integrity, fearlessness and common sense were unmatched in the legal profession. Mr. Isaacs’ interests were many. He was an eclectic collector, from cookbooks to political memorabilia. His Peace Corps experience in Turkey in the 1960s led to a lifelong love of international travel, especially in the Middle East. His knowledge and collection of the music of Appalachia were unparalleled, and he took great pride in having come from the birthplace of the Carter family. He delighted in the nicknames he gave his friends and those names often became better known than their given names, as Chino and Gladys can attest. He was an occasional whitewater rafter, a fine cook, photographer and an avid reader of political biography and history. Among all the losses his death brings, his love of life and his irresistible sense of humor are two of the greatest. He was predeceased by a brother, Lowell Isaacs. Surviving are his sisters, Dorothy Isaacs Moore of Nickelsville, Va., Pauline Couch and June Holbrook, both of Kingsport, and Judy Davis of Nickelsville, Va.; brothers, Fielding (Buddy) Isaacs of Nickelsville, Va., John Isaacs of California, and Richard Johnson of Mount Carmel; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia, S.C. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Place Children’s Emergency Shelter, P.O. Kingsport Times-News Clara (Lane) Dickerson Potter Isenberg CHUCKEY, Tenn. - Clara Dickerson Isenberg , 83, died at her home at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 28, 1999) after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Greene County. Mrs. Isenberg was a homemaker and was employed at Metals Engineering Corporation for ten years. She was a Christian, devoted mother and was known for her kindness and love for other people. Mrs. Isenberg was the daughter of the late James and Stella Estep Lane. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Will Lane and Ballard Lane. Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Stella and Billy Hughes, Chuckey, Tenn., Jo and Dave Frady, Kingsport, Donna and Robbie Lee, Limestone, Tenn., and Mary Ann and Buster Carter, Kingsport; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Virginia Dickerson, Johnny and Jane Dickerson, Randell and Pauline Dickerson, all of Chuckey, Tenn. and Eddie and Trisha Potter, Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Regina Isenberg , Kingsport; six grandchildren, Lynda Dawson, Paula Smith, Michelle Huffman, Brittany Dickerson, Brian Smith and Doug Dickerson; three great-grandchildren, Lyndsay, Zach and Paul; two sisters, Ruby Boardwine, Knoxville, Tenn. and Nancy Bellamy, Hiltons, Va.; several nieces and nephews. Estella Marie Ison GATE CITY, Va. — Estella Marie Ison, 90, of Gate City, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday (Feb. 13, 2009) at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Scott County, Va. (Yuma) and attended Cowan's Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, S.J. and Virginia Harkleroad Ison; three sisters, Myrtle Crawford, Maggie Evans, and Kate Waye; and two brothers, Edd Ison and Gideon Ison. Survivors include her two special nephews, Carl Mack Ison and wife, Anita and Roy C. Ison and wife, Roshell, all of Yuma, Va.; and also several other nieces and nephews. 26, 2013 unexpectedly at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr.
Ison was born in Harlan County, KY on October 31, 1954 to the late Jessie
James Eldridge and Josephine Ison. In
addition to his parents, his sister and 2 brothers preceded him in death. He is
survived by his wife, Daisy Compton, Gate City, VA; 5 sisters and 3
brothers; along with several nieces and nephews. Graveside

CITY, Va. - Bailey Edward Isaac, 83, 112 Church St., Weber City, Va., died
at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 8, 1987) at Holston Valley Hospital &
Medical Center. A
native of Appalachia, Va., he was the retired owner of Bailey Isaac
Department Store in Gate City and was a member of St. Bernards Catholic
Church, Gate City. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Mary Rifanajjar Isaac. Surviving
are his wife, Mrs. Rose Wakin Isaac; two daughters, Mrs. David (Kay)
Dempsy, Atlanta, Ga. and Mrs. Robert (Charlotte) Rehmert, Tipp City, Ohio;
one son, Joseph (Joe) Isaac, Gate City; five grandchildren; two sisters,
Mrs. Jack Weiss, Big Stone Gap, Va. and Mrs. Earl Cubine, Appalachia, Va.;

CITY, Va. - Mrs. Rose Wakin Isaac, 69, 112 Church St., Weber City, Va.,
died early Sunday afternoon (Oct. 25, 1987) in
Atlanta, Ga. A
native of Cumberland, Ky., she spent most of her life in Wise and Scott
counties and was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church, Gate City, Va.
She retired from the Bailey Isaac Dept. Store, Gate City. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Bailey Edward Isaac, on Sept. 8, 1987;
and her parents, Mike and Sophia Pamer Wakin. Surviving
are two daughters, Mrs. David (Kay) Dempsey, Atlanta, Ga. and Mrs. Robert
(Charlotte) Rehmert, Tipp City, Ohio; one son, Joseph (Joe) Isaac, Gate
City; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Martha Cooper, Louisville, Ky.;
one brother, Zache Wakin, Big Stone Gap, Va. Services

parents, Ida Louise and Robert Arnold, and brothers, Roland and Scotty
Arnold. Joyce is survived by her children, Dianne Shephard and husband, Billy,
Kay Spears and husband, Paul, Donald McClellan and wife, Lisa, Daniel

Ancel B. Ives WOODSTON . - Ancel B. Ives, 72, died Tuesday
[5/17/1977] at his home in Woodston. He was a retired auto mechanic. He was born February 19, 1905, at Alton, the son
of Edward and Sadie Millinger Ives. He married Dorothy Quillin November
18, 1928 at Osborne. Surviving: His wife, at home; three sons,
Richard, Beloit; Larry, Handford, Calif., and Roger, Osborne; two
daughters, Dorothy Yarnell, Osborne, and Carol Mullen, Escondido, Calif.;
13 grandchildren; two brothers, Loren, Canyon City, Colo., and Jerry,

Ives, 68, Woodston, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Clark Funeral
Chapel, Osborne, the Rev. Harold Hollis officiating. Burial will be in the
Osborne City Cemetery. Mrs. Ives died Monday [12/1/1980] at the
Mitchell County Community Hospital in Beloit. She was born April 24, 1912,
in Osborne. She was a member of the United Methodist Church,
Woodston, and lived there since 1941. Her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, Richard, Beloit;
Roger, Downs, and Larry, Hanford, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy
Yarnell, Osborne, and Mrs. Coral Mullen, Escondido, Calif.; two sisters,
