WARREN [Ind] — Kelly "Buster" Lane Jr., 71, Warren, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 27, 1931, in Scott County, Va., to Kelly and Sadie Lane. He married Wilma Douglas in Lagro, in 1964. She survives.

Mr. Lane retired from United Technologies, Andrews, after 27 years service. He was also an avid guitar player and had a country band with his brother. Formerly of Virginia, he had been a resident of Huntington County for the past 30 years.

Also surviving are a son, Kelly Lane, Tennessee; three brothers, Bill Lane and Howard Lane, both of Marion, and Danny Lane, Wabash; two sisters, Mrs. Matt (Jean) Lucas and Mrs. Thurman (Joan) Hill, both of Wabash; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, 203 N. Matilda St., Warren. The Revs. Tom Brodbeck and Ken Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

GATE CITY, Va. - Kenneth Alfred Lane, 75, Route 1, departed this life at 1 p.m. Thursday (July 12, 2001) at his residence.

He was a native of Scott County and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired machine operator with the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Jarrett Lane; parents, Henry Creed Lane and Betty Qualls Lane; sister, Verney Lane; and brothers, Wrightly Lane and Dewey Lane.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Johnny Noe, Hiltons, Va., Betty Lane, of the home and Cindy and Jerry Fleenor, Clinchport, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Linda Lane, Hiltons, Va., and Johnny and Teresa Lane, Gate City, Va.; granddaughters, Karyn Vermillion and husband, Benny, and Rebecca Noe; one step granddaughter, Angela Free; grandsons, Michael Lane, Edward Lane, Justin Berry and Tyler Lane; great-grandson, Jordan Lane; one step grandson, Robbie Fleenor; one step great-granddaughter; one step great-grandson; a sister, Viola Jennings, Gate City, Va.; a brother, Willie Lane, Hiltons, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Eight-month-old Kenneth Eugene Lane, son of Mr. and Mrs. Odell Lane, of Gate City, Route 1, died Thursday [1/2/1947] at the Holston Valley Community Hospital of burns received when the Lane home burned Wednesday.

The baby suffered third degree burns in the blaze, hospital attendants said. None of the other members of the family was injured,

Cause of the fire and the extent of damage in the house were not immediately determined.

He is survived by his parents, one brother, Gilbert Richard Lane, the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Lane; and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jennings.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at the home with the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will be in The Pendleton Cemetery , near Manville.

Mrs. Lakie Mae Harris Lane, 87, Route 1 , Ft. Blackmore, Va., died at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday [1/30/1985] at Holston Valley Hospital & Medi­cal Center.

A lifelong resident of Scott County, she was a former librari­an at Alley Valley School.  She attended the Glorious News Tab­ernacle in Alley Valley.

She was predeceased by her husband, Hop Lane.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Emmitt (Rosa) Thompson, Kingsport and Mrs. Wilford (Kathleen) Williams, Gate City, Va.; five sons, Gene Lane, Ft. Laura Mae Lane, 88, Route 3, Cooks Valley Road, Kingsport, died at 6 a.m. Sunday (June 11, 1989) at Indian Path Medical Cen­ter after a short illness.

Born in Scott County, Va., she had lived in the Kingsport area most of her life.  She was a home-maker and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

For the last six years, Miss Lane had made her home with a niece, Mrs. Jim (Nancy) Alley, Route 3, Cooks Valley.

Surviving are two sisters, Glenna Neal, Kingsport and Eva Wagner, Gate City, Va.; one brother, Ogden Lane, South Bos­ton, Va.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and two great-great-nephews.

He was a retired farmer in Scott County , Va.

Mrs. Lena Mae Lane, 70, Kingsport Route 1, died unexpectedly at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday [June 18, 1957] in Holston Valley Community Hospital.

She was born in Chuckey, Tenn., and reared in Johnson City. She was a member of Mafair Methodist Church. Her husband, Samuel E. Lane, died 18 months ago.

Surviving are three sons, Charlie, Sam Jr., and Delbert Lane, all of Kingsport; five daughters, Mrs. J. H. Robinette, Mrs. Eugene Franklin and Mrs. B. L. Mr. Lane was born in Scott County, Va., on April 15, 1927 , son of the late John Bouty and Hannah Branham Lane . He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Hodge; and brother, J.B. Lane ; and half brother, Ira Lane .

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jeff Ogborn, Richmond, Va.; grandsons, Zander and Caden Ogborn; brothers and sister-in-law, Grover Layne, Niceville, Fla., and Jim and Mary Lane, Kingsport; special niece, Kay Blanton, Gate City, Va.; and a very special friend, Juanita Sweeney, Ft. He was born April 19, 1914 in Scott County, Va. to the late William and Arpha Jane Lane.

KINGSPORT - Lester Denver Lane Sr., 86, passed away Sunday night (Sept. 12, 2004) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Scott County, Va., (Ft. Blackmore), and had lived in Kingsport since 1957.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved everyone he met and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lester Lane Jr.; his parents, Elbert Martin Lane and Rena Fugate Lane; two brothers, Bruce Lane and Ballard Lane; and two sisters, Pearl Ramey and Lilly Gillenwater.

She was retired from Norris Industries and was a member of Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church, but attended Red Hill Memorial.

Born in Rye Cove, Va., she re­sided in the area most of her life and formerly taught school in Scott County for many years.

She was a Methodist. Surviving are a son, Harold Horton Lane, Sonora, Calif.; a daughter, Betty Lane Williams, Kingsport; four grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Marion Horton, Rye Cove.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Clyde L. Horton and James E. Horton.

Kingsport - Lora Smith Lane, 81, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Friday January 18, 2008 at Carolina Avenue .

She was born in Scott County , Va (Nickelsville) and lived in Kingsport most of her life. Lora loved to travel and go to Cades Cove and Nicklesville; she loved camping at Cades Cove with Randy and Patsy. She was always a happy woman, laughing all the time. Lora was of the Baptist faith and she attended The Log House Church .

She was preceded in death by her First husband Paul Lane, 1985; second husband, Elijah Lane, 2006; parents, Charles P. and Mary Fields Smith; sisters, Carol Lumpkins, Lena Beth Ryan, Agnes Wise; brother, Charles Smith Jr.; a special aunt, Jeanette Smith Vicars.

She is survived by her daughter, Patsy L. A native of Erwin, she was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late James E. and Jane P. Edwards.

Surviving are her husband, Clarence C. Lane , of the home; one daughter, Martha Engle, Gray; two stepdaughters, Peggy Ramey, Gray and Judy Ramey, Kingsport; two sons, Clarence C. Lane Jr., Gray and Cecil Lane , Blountville; six stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Snyder's Funeral Home, located two miles south of Colonial Heights on Hwy. 36, Gray.

Burial will be at Snyder's Memorial Gardens following the service.

Mr. Lane was employed in the refrigeration division of Tennes­see Eastman Co. for 22 years, re­tiring in 1962.

A son of the late Patton and Mary Estepp Lane, he was pre­ceded in death by two sons, Earl and Bill Lane; one daughter, Opal Atkins; and three brothers, Kyle, John and Leverne Lane.

CLINCHPORT, Va. - Loudema Hubbard Lane, 82, entered into rest Sunday (Oct. 1, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born in Scott County, Va. on Nov. 3, 1923 to the late App Hubbard and Millie Rhoton Hubbard.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Lane; daughter, Sheron Ann Lane; and one sister, Eva Ruth Berry.

She was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and taught school in Scott County, Va. for 36 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Delores Lane Sloan and Pamela Gale Lane, both of Clinchport, Va.; son-in-law, Norman Sloan, Clinchport, Va.; sister, Betty June Hill, Mount Carmel; granddaughter, Kelley Christine Sloan, Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gate City Funeral Home.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Louella Lane , 82, formerly of Fairview Avenue, Kingsport, died at 6 p.m. Friday ( March 6, 1998 ) at St. Joseph Hospital , Lexington , Ky. , after a brief illness.

Born in Hill, Va. , she had been a resident of Kingsport most of her life and had been a resident of Lexington , Ky. , the past five months. Mrs. Lane was of the Jehovah's Witness faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James J. and Callie Zion Lane ; two sisters, Janice Stewart Kendall, November 1997, and June Newland, September 1997; and three brothers, Joshua Bascom Lane , James J. Lane Jr. and Dalton Lane .

Surviving are three nieces and four nephews.

Rev. L.D. Lane, age 80, of Blountville, Tennessee, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 22, 2012, after a brief illness. Native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County, He was retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1987 after 32 years of service. L.D. was of the Evangelical Methodist Faith. He was a veteran serving in the Navy. L.D. loved the outdoors and yard work.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Miller Lane in 2010. Also preceding are his parents, Curtis Eugene Lane and Monnie Estelle Herron Lane.

Big Stone Gap, VA - Margaret Geneva "Nevar" Lane, 93, passed away Thursday August 9, 2012 at her residence.

She was born to Larkin and Rosa (Collins) Willis on March 14, 1919. She was a member of Cadet Primitive Baptist Church. Nevar was a real survivor, loved by everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Lane; six sisters, Leora Willis, Atta Mae Willis, Nettie Seymore, Louisa Robinson, Louvinia Seymore, Ruby Goins; sons, James Newton Lane, Homer Robinson, and Earl Robinson, Jr.; sons-in-law, Elmer Reed and Ed Sproles; grandson, Terry Sproles; several nieces and nephews and two great-grandsons, Brian and Jeffrey.

Mrs. Lane is survived by two sons, Richard and Ethel Lane, Buddy and Elaine Lane of Big Stone Gap; daughters, Phyllis Reed of Kingsport, TN, and Geraldine Sproles of Norton, VA; 24 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a host of friends and her cat.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the 2nd floor CCU at Wellmont Holston Valley, Wellmont Hospice nurses and Dr. Michael Smith.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap.

The funeral service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Lambert and Barry Reed, grandson, officiating. Singing will be provided by Pat Hall.

The committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at East Lawn Memorial Park (4997 Memorial Blvd.) in Kingsport, TN. The family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. on Monday.

FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Mrs. Marjorie Hammond Lane, 73, went home to be with the Lord Saturday (Oct. 18, 2003) following a lengthy illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Scott County, Va., and had made her home with her daughter for the last several years. Prior to her illness, she was employed by Holiday Inn of Kingsport.

Mrs. Lane was a born-again Christian and often talked of her heavenly home. Before her illness, she attended Gillenwater's Chapel Church. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was the wife of the late Orville "Dude" Lane.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Kelly and Lovely Davidson Hammond; sisters, Kathleen Rhoton and Betty Hackney; brothers, John, Glen and Elmer Hammond; and an infant brother, Kelly Jr., and an infant sister, Mary Helen.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Steve Peters, Ft. Blackmore; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Valerie Lane, Ft. Blackmore; granddaughter, Stephanie Peters; and grandson, Ryan Lane; sisters, Minnie Bell Hensley and Willie Jean Rhoton, both of Gate City, Va.; special niece, Carolyn Ann Graham; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Willie Neeley, the Rev. Tommy Holder and the Rev. Walker Darnell officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lane Family Cemetery in Ft. Blackmore, Va. Family and friends of Mrs. Lane will be meeting at 10 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the graveside service.

DUFFIELD, Va. -- Marlin Lee Lane, 83, of Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Center, Duffield, Va., died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, (Oct. 16, 1991).

Formerly of Route 5, Gate City, he was born in Scott County, Va., and attended Grit Hill Com­munity Church.

He was a retired farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Lutisha Rhoten Lane; his wife, Mary E. Lane in 1985; one son, Rev. Ralph Lane; one daughter, a granddaughter; and a brother.

Surviving are one daughter Anna Lou Bledsoe, Clinchport Va.; six sons, Emory Lee Lane, Church Hill, James Kelly Lane, Kingsport, Roy Elmer Lane, Sweet, Idaho, Rev. A. J. Lane, Clinchport, Rev. George C. Lane and Rev. Bill Lane, both of Weber City; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Bertha Raymond, Bend, Oregon; a foster sister, Etta Dykes, Kingsport; and two brothers, Jay Lane, Kingsport, and Erasmus Lane, Clinchport.

Obituary from Gate City Herald? – wife of Maldon Lane Sr

Mrs. Mary E. Lane, wife of M. A. Lane and daughter of E. P. and M. E. Quillen, was born July 28, 1877, and departed this life January 5, 1904, at 5 o’clock a. M. She professed faith in Christ at the age of 13 years and joined the M. E. Church, South, to which she lived a faithful member until her death. She was united in marriage to M. A. Lane June 26, 1898, and unto them were born two sweet children, a boy and girl. She loved her children as only a mother can. She knew she must soon be taken away from them. Her last Christian gift to her little son was a bible. She often talked of her departure and longed for that rest that awaits the children of God. On the morning before her death she called her husband to her side and said to him "I must soon leave you, stay close by me, train up my little children right and take good care of them." She then told him to get his autograph album and with trembling hand she wrote these lines:

I must soon leave you.

But I hope we will meet in heaven,

Just before she died she called her father, mother, husband, brothers and sisters to her and kissed them and asked God to bless and keep them. She then asked us to sing "’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus" and while we sang it seemed she was almost too happy to stay on earth. She then lay quiet for some time, her last words were: "I feel go good." She then fell asleep in the arms of Jesus as calm and peaceful as a child in its mother’s arms.

Mary is not dead, but only sleeping

We’ll be ever living ready,

For we know not what’s before us,

May our lamps be trimmed and burning,

What a blessed hope, dear friends, she is only gone on before. Ah, how strange some things doth appear to us, but our kind Heavenly Father knoweth best. We cannot tell why she was taken away from her husband and little children, but we would say to them she is a bright light in Heaven’s window for you, then cheer up as you journey through life you can look toward the home of the soul and say, dear Mary, I will meet you there. Dear children, you can look toward Heaven and say, mama is there, I will be good and when I die I will go there too. Then father, mother, brothers and sisters, remember her dying words and by the grace of God we shall meet dear Mary on the other side of the river of death, where we shall never part any more and all our troubles will be over. To all her friends and relatives we would say, let us so live that when the journey of life is drawing to a close and the shade of evening fall about us and the sabeled curtains of night gather around us, we can say, like the good sister, "I am ready to go, dear Lord, take me home" and fall asleep in the arms of Jesus and be carried by the angels safe through the pearly gates into the city of God.

Mrs. Mary C. Lane, 82, died at the home of a son, Kyle Lane, Route 10, Sunday [9/24/1961] at 12:15 p.m.  She was a member of the Chimney Top Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include three other sons, James Lane, Kingsport, John Lane, Stone, Ky., Lloyd Lane, Fall Branch; one daughter, Mrs. Ott Baxter, Kingsport; two half-brothers, Hiram Estep, Elbert Estep, both of Gate City, Va.; one half-sister, Mrs. Cora Smiley, Kingsport; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chimney Top Free Will Baptist Church.  Rev. Bill Gardner and Rev. Tom Hall will officiate.  Burial will be at the adjoining cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers.

The body will be removed from Kiser Funeral Home, Greeneville, to the home of a son, Lloyd Lane, in the Chimney Top Community, Monday, at 4 p.m.

House Fall Claims Kingsport Woman

KINGSPORT - Mary Irene Lane, 89, of Franklin Street, went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning (July 19, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born Feb. 13, 1916 in Scott County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Patton and Polly Alley Williams. She was of the Methodist faith and was a homemaker.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Melvin Lane (1997); one daughter, Glenna Gail Lane; one brother, Rev. Kenneth Williams; two sisters, twin sister, Kathleen Darnell and Ida Darnell.

Surviving are two sons, Bobby and wife Carmoleta Lane of Mount Carmel, and Phillip and wife Freda Lane of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Kristen Lane and Holly Lane, both of Knoxville; three sisters, Lantha Lowe, Iva Wisely and Hazel Williams, all of Gate City, Va.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and others also survive.

DUNGANNON, Va. — Mary L. Lane, 80, of Dungannon, Va. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, (April 22, 2012) at Holston Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born on Nov. 8, 1931 in Dungannon, Va., Mary was a faithful member of Dungannon Freewill Baptist Church where she served as clerk and Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also a charter member of the church’s Women of Worship. Mary was a great woman of God and was very special to many people in the community. She devoted her life to taking care of others and was an inspiration to all those fortunate enough to meet her. She was brave in life and faced her hardships and illnesses head on while trusting God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Lohr and Ora Dooley Lohr; husband, Nathan W. Lane; and sister, Patsy Bowlby.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane Dorton and husband, Ronnie, Dungannon, Va., Sheila Penley and husband, Michael, Nickelsville, Va. and Karen Dockery and husband, Roger, Dungannon, Va.; son, Roger Lane and wife, Karen, Kalamazoo, Mich.; grandchildren, Travis Dorton and wife, Melanie, Dungannon, Va. and Amanda Dockery, Dungannon, Va.; great-grandchildren, Nathan Dorton, Kaiden and Mason Buchanan, all of Dungannon, Va.; sister, Geneva Cash, Portsmouth, Va.; special cousin, Carol “Poo Doo” Lucas, Dungannon, Va.; and a host of other family and friends.

Mary L. Lane, 80, 194 Anco Place, Kodak Heights, died at 11:45 a.m. Monday (Jan. 8, 1990) at the emergency room of Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Cen­ter after suffering a stroke.

Born in Scott County, Va., she had resided in Kingsport for 52 years and was a member of Ma­cedonia Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe C. Lane, in 1980; one son, Joe Cephus Lane, in 1945; three sisters and one brother.

Surviving are eight daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Myrtle) Bowen, Gate City, Va., Mrs. Lloyd (Juanita) Fish, Mrs. Hobart (Ina) Smith, Mrs. Earl (Pauline) Rossie, Mrs. Newton (Nancy) Fields, Mrs. Howard (Fay) Rossie, and Ms. Patsy Bates, all of Kingsport, Mrs. Ben (Peggy Irene) Starnes, Fort Blackmore, Va.; three sons, Clyde Evisten Lane and Gary Lane, both of Kingsport, Robert Lane, Pantigo, N.C.; 34 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dewey Lark, Keokee, Va..

Born in Scott County, Va. July 5, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James Cridton and Mary Kate Frazier Davidson.

Mrs. Lane attended Peters Chapel Church.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mary was a friend to all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Edward Lane in 1992; two infant sisters, Thelma Lucille Davidson and Edith Elizabeth Davidson.

Shannon is survived by her daughters, Jessie Lane of the home, Ashley Goad and husband Chad, Bridget Justice and husband Brett both of Mt Carmel; grandchildren, Mackenzie Goad and Carlie Justice; mother Belinda Blizzard of Mt Carmel; father, Glen Rogers and wife Ann of Church Hill; maternal grandmother, Beaulah Williams of Kingsport; paternal grandmother, Gladys Rogers of Kingsport; sister, Kayla Rogers of Church Hill; brothers, Brad Rogers, Landon Rogers and Steve Rogers all of Church Hill; niece, Aubrey Rogers of Church Hill.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy 11W, Church Hill, TN.

A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jesse Hartgrove officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.

DUFFIELD, Va. - Shirley Ann Oxford Lane, 65, departed this world to join the Lord on Friday morning (Sept. 6, 2002) at her residence.

Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of Lillie Barnette Oxford and the late Woodrow Oxford. She was retired from Norris Industries and loved by all who knew her.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lane.

Surviving are her mother, Lillie Marie Barnette Oxford of Woodway, Va.; a daughter, Karen and her husband Jerry Livesay of the Purchase community; a grandson, Jason Livesay; sisters, Nancy Robbins of Duffield, Linda Bledsoe of Woodway, Va.; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Arlene and Mack Dockery of Duffield, and Retta Lane of Clinchport, Va.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Charles Rhoton and Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.

Music will be provided by Way of the Cross Singers.

Committal service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Adams Cemetery in Duffield. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home for procession to the cemetery.

GATE CITY, Va. — Shirley Fay (Amos) Lane, 68, of the Kermit community, went to be with the Lord at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, (May 20, 2007), with her family by her side, while at her residence, following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Scott County, Va. on Monday, Dec. 12, 1938, a daughter of the late Kyle and Grace Falin Amos. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Donnie Lee Lane and Frank Junior Lane; and also by two sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Frank Lane of the home; three sons, Henry Lane and wife, Melissa, Gene Lane and wife, Janice and Jerry Lane and wife, Lori; two daughters, Gracie Painter and husband, Bill and Eva Overbay and husband, Donald; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive; three sisters, Mary Morrison of Cleveland, Edna Knowles and husband, Loyall of Church Hill, and Edith Henson of Blountville; five brothers, Carl Amos and wife, Jewell of Kingsport, Ken Amos and wife, Betty of Surgoinsville, Tom Amos of Church Hill, Jackie Amos and wife, Sandra of Kingsport and Paul Amos and wife, Martha also of Kingsport.
Calling hours will be Tuesday evening, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home.
The funeral will follow in the chapel with Rev. Bayless Kinser officiating.
The music will be provided by Charlie Frazier.
The burial will be Wednesday morning, at 11 a.m. in the Hensley-Falin Cemetery, Gate City, Va. (Kermit community).
Pallbearers will be Henry Lane, Gene Lane, Jerry Lane, Joshua Lane, Bill Painter and Donald Overbay.

DUFFIELD, Va. -- Shirley Ruth Lane, 52, died Wednesday (Dec. 23, 1992) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Scott County, Va., where she had lived all of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, Amos Clayton Lane in 1970; one brother, Edgar Ray Lane in 1937.

Surviving are her mother, Pearl Edith Bellamy Lane, (Ridgecrest Manor), Duffield, Va.; four sisters; Mrs. Carl (Thelma) Templeton, Mrs. Calvin (Helen) Calhoun, and Mrs. Phil (Shelby) McConnell, all of Gate City, Va., and Mrs. Daryl (Betty) Williams, Trenton, Ga.; two brothers, Rev. Claude Lane, Gate City, Va., and Rev. Paul Lane, Church Hill; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Gate City Fu­neral Home, Gate City, Va.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Darrell Fletcher, and the Rev. William Slagle officiating.

Funeral services for D. S. Lane, resident of Kingsport for the past 13 years, will be conducted at 1:30 p. m. today at Fries, Va., with the Revs. J. L. Trent and M. F, Combs officiating.

Mr. Lane died at his home here yesterday [5/10/1940] after an illness of ten days. He was employed as a textile worker.  He was a member of the Calvary Baptist church and the Masonic order.

Surviving are his widow and four children, Hobert of Lynchburg, Va., Lester, Clara and Mary Lee Lane, all of Kingsport.  Also three brothers, Bill and Cleve Lane, both of Pulaski, M. C. Lane of Portland, Ore., and a sister, Mrs. L. T.  Felts of Galax, Va.

Pall and flower bearers will be selected from among friends.

Hiltons, VA - Melissa Todd Lane, 46, our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend finished her long battle with cancer and entered her forever home on Sunday, September 23, 2012. We are …willing…to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord…in His presence is fullness of joy.

There is no way to convey just how precious Melissa was to all of us. Her beautiful smile lit up the room when she came in, and she kept that smile no matter how much she was suffering. She never complained about her sickness, but continually thanked and praised God for His goodness to her. She was a bold witness for the LORD and wanted everyone to know her Savior.

She was preceded in sleep by her beloved parents, Rev. Carson “Gene” and Frances Todd; her brother-in-law, Brad Lane; (and special mention her grandparents-in-law, Rev. William & Kathleen Lane); and many more extended family members.

Those of us still waiting to be reunited are husband, Robby Lane; daughter, Tirzah Lane; son, Chase Lane, all of the home; father and mother in law, Bob and Mary Ann Lane, Hiltons; beloved sisters, Sharon Wade, Kingsport; Susan (Eddie) James, Kathy (Dwight) Taylor, Sara (Denny) Austin, all of Gate City, and Michelle (Randall) Stapleton, Church Hill; beloved brothers, Michael Todd, Kingsport and Mark (Brenda) Todd, Gate City; aunts, Shirley and Imogene Tipton. She also has numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who loved her dearly. Also her friend Chris Cowden who loved her so, and numerous other special friends and former co-workers.

Melissa also made many friends through her previous home church, Victory Baptist, and her current home church, Calvary Lighthouse Baptist. She loved her churches and they loved her. The Children’s Church kids had a very special place in her heart.

We are forever grateful to her friend and partner in her battle with cancer, Dr. Daryl Pierce, FNP Kellie Mayden, and the wonderful staff at Norton Cancer Center, KHO, you all are AWSOME!

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday (September 26, 2012) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home or friends may also call anytime at the residence.

Honorary pallbearers will be Elijah Hill and Jonathan Cowden.
