Church Hill, TN. – Jean Kaylor, 80, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014.

She was born February 15, 1934 in Gate City, VA. Mrs. Kaylor was of the Baptist Faith, and loved working in her yard. Jean was employed at the Weber City School Cafeteria for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy L. Kaylor Sr.; parents Monroe and Elma Hammonds Williams; twin Ilene Johnson; brother Hansel Williams; daughter-in-law Deana Cox Kaylor.

Jean is survived by her daughter Martha McCampell (David) of Surgoinsville; son Lee Kaylor of Weber City - Duffield; granddaughters Audrey Walls (Jason), Jennifer Ramey (Michael); great-grandchildren Dillion Walls, Isaiah and Rachel Ramey; sister Frances Sluss; sister-in-law Mildred Rasnick; several nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends Saturday, from 5-7 pm at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating. Music will be provided by Patsy Mason.

Graveside service will be Sunday at 3:00 pm at Holston View Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside services are asked to meet at the funeral home no later than 2:15 pm to go in procession to the cemetery.

KINGSPORT - Albert Harry (A.H.) Keisling Sr., 87, passed away Wednesday (May 8, 2002).

He was born Oct. 25, 1914 in Livingston, Tenn., a son of the late J.H. and Hazel (Thrasher) Keisling. He was retired from TEC in the CE Division. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Burke Keisling who passed away in February.

Surviving are his children, Edward (Bud) Keisling, Ohio, Albert Keisling Jr., Kingsport, Karen McClure, Cottontown, Tenn., and Cindy Shipley, Kingsport; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Marie Blackburn, Kingsport; and a brother, Doug Keisling, Livingston, Tenn.

Calling hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Aaron Rayburn officiating.

Graveside service and burial will follow in the Garden of Love, East Lawn Memorial Park.

KINGSPORT - Beulah S. Keisling, 81, passed away Wednesday (April 17, 2002) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Mrs. Keisling was born in Hawkins County, a daughter of the late Oscar Freel Burke and Eliza Blizzard Burke. She was a member of Reservoir Road Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Womens Missionary Union.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Alta Hennegar, Mary Blizzard, Pearl Sandidge, Tilton, Nelson, Curtis and Bill

Surviving are her husband, Albert Harry Keisling Sr. of the home; daughters, Karen McClure, Cottontown, Tenn., and Cindy Shipley, Kingsport; sons, Albert Keisling Jr., Kingsport, and Bud K. Keisling, Ohio; grandchildren, Amy Maria, Amy Elizabeth, Holly, Eliza, Neil; great-grandsons, Coby, Caleb, Clint and Max.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. F.M. Brown officiating.

GATE CITY, Va. — Debra Elkins Keith, 55, of Gate City, went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2009) at her residence.

Debra served as the school nurse coordinator for Scott County Public Schools. She was a member of Holston View United Methodist Church and a member of Scott County Juvenile Drug Court Staffing. Debra was a chairperson of School Health Advisory Committee. She was a member of Medical Reserve Corps, also a member of National Association of School Nurses. Debra was a 1976 graduate of Berea College (Berea, Ky.) with a Bachelors degree of Arts and Science in nursing.

She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who always put others before herself. Debra was a faithful follower of God whose final wish was that her battle with cancer would bring others closer to the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her father, Master Sgt. Bill Elkins of Columbia, S.C.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Keith, of Gate City; mother, Eula Elkins, of Bristol, Va.; two sons, Adam Keith and wife, Mary Beth of Gate City, and David Keith of Weber City; three sisters, Sherry Shirley and husband, Keith, of Salem, Va., Kim Ryan and husband, Tom, of Columbia, S.C., and Kristi Weeks, of Salem, Va.; one brother, Mike Elkins and wife Erin, of Columbia, S.C.; along with 15 nephews and 13 nieces.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 U.S. Highway 23N, Weber City. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Steve Collins and Pastor Ken Pierce officiating.

Music will be provided by Grace Stidham, Stan Rogers and Trio, Katrina Smith-Toole, Scott Darnell and Brenda Byrd.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 am.

Luke Keith, Mark Shirley, Ryan Shirley, Kyle Elkins, Hunter Ryan and John Farmer will serve as pallbearers.

Dustin Weeks and Chase Weeks will serve as honorary pallbearers.

DUNGANNON, Va. - Billy Wayne Kern, 46, passed away Thursday (Jan. 12, 2006) due to injuries received in an automobile accident.

He was born in Sullivan County, Tenn. He had resided in Scott County and worked as a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Lee and Nellie Doris Quillen Kern; brother, Jerry R. Kern; half-brother, Kenneth Jerry Kern.

He is survived by his brother, Charles L. Kern and wife, Krista of Dungannon, Va.; half-brothers, Jeff Hall and wife, Heather of Church Hill, Scotty Hall and wife, Martha of Dungannon, Va.; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home in Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence of Larry and Dorothy Brickey of Big Moccasin.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 8 p.m. with Rev. Walter Taylor and Rev. Danny Darnell officiating.

Fort Blackmore VA—Carolyn Sue Kern age 62, had her Christmas prayer answered, when the Heavenly Father called her home on Sunday (Dec. 21, 2013). She was employed by Norris Industries/Masco Tech for many years. She was a graduate of M.E.C.C. and proud employee of Holston Medical Group where she served as Medical Records Coordinator. She dearly loved all her family and spending time with them. She was an avid animal lover. Her heart, hands and finances were offered to anyone in need. She adored her grandchildren. She was a faithful servant and trusted and hoped completely in the Lord Jesus Christ, God the Father and the sweet Holy Spirit.

She was the daughter of the late Jessie and Mary Venus Lane Bishop.

Preceded in death by a niece Tracy Weeks.

She is survived by her daughter Cindy Hood of Duffield, Va., her grandchildren Alisha Hood of Wise, Va., Jon Hood of Duffield, Va., and Aaron Hood of Duffield,Va. her sister Elizabeth Johnson and husband Wiley of Bristol, her brother Arnold Bishop and wife Patsy of Athens, Tn., Charles Dayton Bishop and wife Paula of Fort Blackmore, Va. three nieces LeAnna Hickman of Surgoinsville, Tn., Christina Bishop of Knoxville, TN., Susanne Bishop of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Duffield, VA –  Charlie H. Kern, 67, of Duffield, VA, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center (Kingsport, TN).

Mr. Kern was born May 18, 1945, in Scott County, VA, the son of the late Kyle Kern and Venus Bishop Kern. He loved to farm and spent his entire life doing so.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant brother and an infant sister; a brother, Bud Kern; and a son-in-law, Steven Tremblay.

Survivors of Charlie H. BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Charles Jackson (Jack) Kern Sr., 67, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Jan. 24, 2005) after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Scott County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean conflict.

He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Henry Kern on Jan. 5, 1957; and his mother, Lillie Jones Kern on June 7, 2003; and a brother, John Henry Kern on Sept. 20, 2004.

Kingsport, TN — Clyde Elizabeth Quillin Kern, 94, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013. Born in Scott County, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Robert and Cora Gillenwater Quillin and was of the Baptist Faith. Mrs. Kern was the widow of the late Talmadge Kern. They were married in January 1940 and lived in Scott County until 1988 when they moved to Kingsport to be near their daughters. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Her hobbies were crocheting, embroidery. Always worked the daily newspaper crossword puzzle. She and her daughters enjoyed many hours working jigsaw puzzles. She was always “doing something” with her hands.

Preceding her in death were her sisters, Vesta Egan, Edna Greear, Myrtle Brickey, Polly Carter, Patricia Dingus and brothers, Easton, Joseph and J.B. Quillin.

She is survived by her daughters, Lucille (Bob) Lovegrove of Kingsport, Kathleen (John) Ford of Church Hill, grandchildren, Jeff (Cindy Peacock) Lovegrove of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Jonathan (Shonnie) Ford of Lynchburg, Virginia, Aundrea (Darell) Johnson of Church Hill, great grandchildren, Kayla and Devon Lovegrove of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Jacob and Maria Ford of Lynchburg, Virginia. HILTONS, Va. - Darrell Lee Kern, 38, entered into rest Tuesday (Dec. 13, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Sullivan County on Dec. 19, 1966.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Stewart Kern, 1971; his twin brother, Earl Kern, June 2005.

His children were his life; he had a way with people. He had a fantastic sense of humor and could make you laugh in the darkest hour. He was a blessing to all who knew him.

GATE CITY, Va. - Earl Kern, 38, entered into rest Monday (June 6, 2005) at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va.

He was born Dec. 19, 1966 in Sullivan County and resided in Gate City, Va.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Stewart Kern, 1971.

Earl was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger. He was a loving husband, brother and grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Gena Chapman Kern, Gate City, Va.; father, Lee Harold Kern, Duffield, Va.; grandmother, Maude M. Stewart, Ft. DUFFIELD, Va. — Elmer Fred Kern, 67, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 3, 2007) while doing what he loved, working in his garage.

He was born in Scott County, Va. on Feb. 1, 1940 and was the son of the late George Rhoton Kern and Lillie Pruitt Kern. He had worked at Bullitt Mine for Westmoreland Coal Company and retired with 26 years of service. He was a member of Scott County Life Saving Crew in the late 1970's and member of Duffield Volunteer Fire Dept. from 1972 to 1980.

Mr. Kern had attended Mabe's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Cindy Stanley, Ova Stanley, and Zelmie Stanley; brothers, Leonard Kern and Dillard Kern; one infant brother and sister.

Surviving are his wife, Fay Smith Kern, of the home; daughter, Colleen Hurd and husband, David and children, Shalee and Dalton, Duffield , Va.; son, Jeff Kern and wife, Robin and children, Derek, Melinda and Sarah, Duffield, Va.; brothers, Clayton Kern and wife, Virginia, Mabe, Va., Joe Kern and wife, Alma Ruth, Big Stone Gap, Va.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mount Carmel, TN - Everette Fred Kern, 82, Mount Carmel, TN passed away, Friday, January 09, 2015 at his residence after a short illness.

Everette was born in Scott County, VA on September 17, 1932 to the late Roy and Maude Greear Kern.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired from the Tenite Division of Eastman Chemical in 1994 with 28 years of service.

In addition to his parents, his first wife, Frances Sims Kern and brother-in-law, Rex Yokley preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Phillips Kern, Mount Carmel, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Betty Kern, Slant, VA; sister, Margie Yokley; niece, Susan Yokley; brothers-in-law, Lowell Phillips and wife, Ada, and Norman Draper; sister-in-law, Zada P. Richards; a very special niece and nephew, Cheyanne and Colton Bagshaw; along with several other nieces and nephews.

BLOUNTVILLE - Jasper A. Kern, 66, 392 Center Drive, passed away Thursday (Oct. 24, 2002) at Wellmont Hospice House following an extended illness.

Mr. Kern was a native of Scott County, Va., but had spent most of his adult life in Sullivan County. He attended Indian Ridge Baptist Church. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, a member of the Phi Delta Chi Fraternity, the University of Tennessee Alumni Association, First District Pharmaceutical Association, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict, and was president and co-owner of Mount Carmel Drug, Inc., established in 1965.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Lee, Sr. and Mary Ella Walling Kern; two sisters, Odessie Viola Kern and Martha Jane Kern; four brothers, Joe Neal Kern, Shelah Carlton Kern, Charlie Kern and Andrew Lee Kern Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Smith Kern, of the home; stepson, Chuck McLain and wife, Becky McLain, Church Hill; unborn granddaughter, Carlee Rose McLain; two sisters, Virginia Ruth Kern Baldwin and Beulah Mae Kern Pyle, both of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born in Sullivan County, Tenn., and had resided in Scott County, Va.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew L. Kern; and two half-brothers, Jerry Kern, and Billy Wayne Kern.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Perry Brickey and step-father, Larry R. Brickey, both of the home; one half-sister, Lori Pendergrass of Clinchport, Va.; two half-brothers, Charles L. Kern and wife Krista of Dungannon, Va., and Anthony W. Brickey and wife Tina of Dante, Va.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Born May 6, 1933 in Scott County, VA, he was the son of the late John Orbin and Mary Lane Kern.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Marie Stewart Kern; sons, Earl Kern and Darnell Kern; sister, Ollie Kern Baldwin; brothers, Wilson Kern, J.P. Kern, Fred Kern, Arlin Kern, Johnny Kern and infant brother, Willie Walker Kern; and mother-in-law, Maude Stewart preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughters, Teresa Hill and husband, Rex, Gate City, VA and Madeline Kern, Rye Cove, VA; grandchildren, Mitchell Kern and Russell Kern; brother, Charles Clint Kern and wife, Martha Louise, Rye Cove, VA; daughter-in-law, Gena Kern, Kingsport, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.

DUFFIELD, Va. - Lester C. Kern, 89, died Monday morning (Dec. 8, 2003) at his residence.

Born in Scott County, he was a son of the late Enoch and Jemimah Vicars Kern and was a retiree of Sterling Mining Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor, he and his loving wife Claudia were merchants in the Duffield community for many years.

Mrs. Kern was born in Scott County, Va., on April 3, 1940, the daughter of the late Clarence Asbury and Nannie Salling Kinkead.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Edwards and Georgia Edens.

Surviving are her husband, Clyde C. Kerns, Ft. KINGSPORT — Susan Emma Kern, 103, of Kingsport, (formerly of Rye Cove, Va.) passed away Feb. 7, 2009.

She was born at Natural Tunnel, Va., on April 6, 1905.

Susie and her late husband, Rufus, were merchants in the Rye Cove community for many years. She enjoyed traveling and attended Orebank Missionary Baptist Church until she was 101. She was a sweet, kind and loving woman who was known for her wonderful sense of humor. She loved her family and spending time with them. She attributed her long life to always being good to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Kate Tomlinson; first husband, Enoch Miller; second husband, Rufus Kern; son, Guy Kern; grandson, Gary Miller; son-in-law, Jack Powers; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Miller; and sisters, Mattie Lane, Venus Taylor and Bertie Goode.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Powers; son, E.L. Miller and wife, Margaret; grandsons, Jimmy Miller and wife, Connie, Terry Miller and wife, Bonnie, and Garnetta Miller; granddaughters, Sharon Clendenen and husband, Cecil, Susan Fannon and husband, Jack and Beverly Barnes and husband, Ken; daughter-in-law, Phebe Kern. She is also survived by several great and great-great grandchildren.

A native of Ft. Blackmore, Va., he had spent most of his adult life in Hawkins County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Church Hill VFW Post No. 9754 and the Kingsport American Legion Post. He was a retired truck driver. He was a member and trustee of Cedar Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by three infant children; his parents, Worley Wesley and Nancy Baldwin Kern ; and two sisters, Callie Martin and Effie Flanary.

Mr. Kern worked for Lee Mann Mining for several years and then retired from A&L Industries as a concrete finisher. He attended Durham Chapel Church and was a singer with the Gospel Light Quartet. He loved to sing for the Lord.

GATE CITY, Va. - Rev. Bruce Kerns, 69, Route 6, Daniel Boone community, departed this life suddenly early Thursday morning (Dec. 21, 2000) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

A native of Scott County, Va., he was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Rev. Kerns was a Virginia licensed funeral director and had been employed by Scott County Funeral Home since 1970, where he was presently serving as manager.

He had been pastor of Kaylors Chapel Baptist Church for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bass Kerns and Louise McDavid Kerns; and brothers, Claude Kerns and Lyle Kerns.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Rhoton Kerns, Gate City, Va.; daughter, Deborah Kerns Hensley, Gate City, Va.; grandson, Brandon Hensley, Gate City, Va.; and nephew, Darrell Kerns, Gate City, Va.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Kaylors Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Duncan and the Rev. Daryle Hurd officiating.

CHURCH HILL — Charles Darrell Kerns, 67, of Church Hill, formerly of Scott County, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday ( June 30, 2009 ) at his home.

Charles was a member of Community United Methodist Church . He was employed by Mead for over 40 years until his retirement. Charles was a gifted writer of poetry, who loved to share his poems with others. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Avanell Spears Kerns.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Jennings Kerns, daughter, Wendy Benton and husband, Tim of Gate City, Va.; two sons, Tony Kerns and wife, Debbi of Sevierville, Tenn., and Lanny Kerns and wife, Susan of Ridgecrest, Calif.; six grandsons, Justin Kerns, Brandon Morgan, Hunter Kerns, Logan Kerns, Tyler Benton and Creed Benton; seven great-grandchildren, Logan Lifford, Cameron Kerns, Allison Kerns, Isabella Kerns, Kade Morgan, Madison Schubert and Taylor Schubert. Charles is further survived by an extensive family.

DUFFIELD, Va. - Lester C. Kern, 89, died Monday morning (Dec. 8, 2003) at his residence.

Born in Scott County, he was a son of the late Enoch and Jemimah Vicars Kern and was a retiree of Sterling Mining Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor, he and his loving wife Claudia were merchants in the Duffield community for many years.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Claudia Qualls Kern of Duffield; daughters, Peggy K. Weinerth and husband John of Durham, N.C., and Judy K. Lang and husband Wallace of Beaver Dam, Va.; grandsons, Todd Bridges and wife Kerri of Raleigh, N.C., and Wally Lang and wife Crystal of Ashland, Va.; great-grandchildren, Cameron Bridges and Claire Bridges.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Garry Edwards officiating.

Music will be provided by members of the Thomas Village Baptist Church choir.

CLINCHPORT, Va. - Mrs. Louise Tomllinson Kerns, 64, Route 3, entered into rest Tuesday ( Jan. 11, 2000 ) at Holston Valley Medical Center .

Born in Scott County, Va. May 15, 1935 , a daughter of the late Worley and Fannie Gibson Tomlinson. She was a homemaker and had lived her life in Scott County .

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Oscar Bledsoe, who died Oct. 9, 1972 ; two sisters, Cora Graham, Frankie Tomlinson; two brothers, Charlie and Kernal Tomlinson; two half-sisters, Stella May Tomlinson and Ethel Tomlinson.

Mrs. Kerns is survived by her husband, Johnny Kerns, Duffield, Va.; two daughters and sons-in-­law, Helen and Walt Kern, Kendallville, Ind. and Cathy     Kerns, Clinchport, Va.; one granddaughter, Shawn Berry, Kendallville, Ind.; three sisters, Ellen Thompson, Sarah Christian and Lizzibe Fritz, all of Duffield, Va.; two brothers, Bill Tomlinson, Stickleyville, Va. and Robert Tomlinson, Wise, Va.

EATONVILLE, Ga. - Lowell Rex Kern, 23, of Eatonville, Ga., formerly of Scott County, Va., died at Athens General Hospital in Athens, Ga. early Wednesday [6/13/1973] from injuries received in an automobile accident Tuesday night. He was a veteran of Vietnam and a Baptist.

He was a native of Scott County, Va. and was retired from General Shale and Band Box Cleaners. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, O.B. and Louise McDavid Kerns and one brother.

Mrs. Kerns was born in Scott County, VA on December 19, 1932 to the late Rev. Lucian H. and Ethel Loucella Lane.

She was Office Manager with State Farm Insurance for many years. She sang and played in several gospel quartets throughout Scott County. She was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church.

CHURCH HILL -- William J. (Bill) Kern , 73, 426 Christian Bend Road, died Sunday (June 21, 1998) at Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.

A native of Ft. Blackmore, Va., he had spent most of his adult life in Hawkins County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Church Hill VFW Post No. 9754 and the Kingsport American Legion Post. He was a retired truck driver. He was a member and trustee of Cedar Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by three infant children; his parents, Worley Wesley and Nancy Baldwin Kern ; and two sisters, Callie Martin and Effie Flanary.

KINGSPORT — Mrs. Edith Inez Kilgore, a lifelong resident of the Midway community and Kingsport , entered into eternity on July 17, 2009.

Edith grew up as a member of Morgan’s Chapel Methodist Church in Midway and was a member of Community Methodist Church in Kingsport . She retired from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center with over 30 years of service.

Mrs. Kilgore was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Davidson; her stepmother, Maude Davidson; her sisters, Goldie Davidson, June Davidson, Ruby Hamm, Jeanette Bledsoe and Sadie Baker; her brothers, Ralph, Will and James Davidson and Robert and Dallas Compton; her stepson, Michael Kilgore; and her first husband, Windom E. Davis.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Emory Lee Kilgore of Kingsport; two daughters, Myrtle Davis Neumeier and husband, Joseph of Palm Harbor, Fla. and Elseon Davis Lawson and husband, Tommy of Lithonia, Ga.; two stepsons, Jack Kilgore and Jerry Kilgore, both of Midway, Va.; three grandchildren, Jim Banner, Shanda Neumeier and Michael Neumeier; two beloved nieces, Connie Bledsoe Clark and Lorrene Anderson Quillen; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn her passing.

Gate City - Sue Stallard Kilgore, 87 whom God sent an angel to bring home to rest on April 9, 2014, was a loving mother and wife. She had a wonderful love of music and enjoyed singing in the choir and with various quartets in the Scott County area. Sue set the music to a song, “In the Valley of Decision” which her husband, Cary wrote. Sue was a member of Sally's Chapel Baptist Church in Weber City, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cary R. Stallard and daughter Kathy D. Ervin.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Kilgore; son, Randall Stallard and wife Cathy; grandchildren, Joshua Stallard, Stephanie Stallard, Chad Ervin and Stacy Ervin and wife Ginny; great-granddaughter, Lexi Ervin; son-in-law, Huey Ervin and wife Tammy.

Ezra W. Kilgore, 71, 141 South Dogwood Dr., Weber City, Va., formerly of 1705 Bloomingdale Pike, died at 1:45 p.m. Thursday [5/2/1986] at Indian Path Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Scott County, Va., he had been a resident of Kingsport for the past 37 years.  He was a member of the Chestnut Flats Primitive Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II, serv­ing in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of the D.A.V., and an employee of the Kingsport Hous­ing Authority.

Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Cornelius (Maggie) McMurray, Weber City, Va., Mrs. Etta Baker, Mrs. George (Janie) Dixon and Mrs. Blaine (Minnie Ruth) Dixon, all of Nickelsville, Va., and Mrs. Sherman (Lou Ethel) Guy, Kingsport; one brother, Lindsey W. NICKELSVILLE, Va. — Faye Dougherty Kilgore, 85, of Nickelsville, Va., passed away on Tuesday morning (Dec. 9, 2008) at her son’s residence (Teddy Kilgore) following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s.

Faye had spent the majority of her life in Nickelsville. She attended Culbertson Chapel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Loy Kilgore, Jr.; one infant son, Willard Earl Kilgore; parents, Robert Dougherty and Bonnie Dougherty Addington; foster parents, Willie and Bertha Kilgore; two sisters, Myrtle Harris and Ethel Horne; foster sister, Thelma Kilgore Stapleton; two brothers, Robert Dougherty and Ezra Dougherty; son-in-law, Larry Blankenbeckler.

She is survived by her daughter, Louise Blankenbeckler and fiancé, Jerry Addington, of Hilton, Va.; three sons, Roger Kilgore and wife, Shelby, Teddy Kilgore and wife, Patricia and Ronnie Kilgore, all of Nickelsville; four grandchildren, Randy Kilgore and wife, Kristi, Travis Blankenbeckler, Glenn Blankenbeckler and Shane Kilgore; two great-grandchildren, Corbin and Colten Kilgore; two brothers, S.J. EVARTS, Ky. - George F. Kilgore, a native of Nickelsville. Va., who had operated a dry goods store in Evarts for 35 years, died his home here Thursday [ 9/22/1960 .] He was 55.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ena Kilgore; one daughter, Brenda, of Evarts; his mother, Mrs. Hannah Kilgore, Nickelsville; two brothers, John, Evarts, and Sam Kilgore, Wallins, Ky.; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Meade, Grundy, Va.; Mrs. Flotene Gray, Kingsport, and Mrs. H. C. Meade, Detroit.

Kilgore was a member of the Lions Club here, a Scotish Rite Mason, member of Yocum Masonic Lodge No. 879 and a Shriner.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Nickelsville Baptist Church , with the Nickelsville Lodge conducting masonic rites.

The body will be transferred to the mother's home in Nickelsville at 2 p. m. Saturday.

Giles Nathan Kilgore, 94, of Kingsport passed away (Wednesday April 16, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Nickelsville, Virginia, all of his 94 years were spent in Gate City or Kingsport. Giles was a man of many talents. In his early years in Southwest, VA, he had sawmills, thrashed wheat and did many things to make a living during the years before he left for service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre and was wounded in March 1945.

Giles was also involved in a bus line, a hardware store and was a heavy equipment operator. He worked for many local equipment companies; and finally worked for himself as owner of Kilgore Excavating. He was also co-owner and builder of Richlands Motor Speedway.

Upon retirement, he and Gladys spent years doing crafts; and also splitting their time between Kingsport and Frostproof, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James M. Kilgore and Lizzie Price Kilgore; brothers, James Kilgore and D.P. Kilgore; two sisters, Orpha Hartsock and Mary Kilgore and grandson, Jason Kilgore

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Gladys Kilgore; daughter, Gay McReynolds and husband Bob, Fall Branch; four sons, "Jim" Kilgore and wife Debbie, Salisbury, NC, William "Bill Kilgore and wife Brenda, Kingsport, Jerry "Pat" Kilgore and wife Patricia, Kingsport and Ray G. BELLEVUE - Glenn Cecil Kilgore, 73, of Bellevue, died Saturday at Bellevue Hospital.

He was born Jan. 22, 1930 in Norton, Va., to the late Leonard L. and Mo11ie (Starnes) Kilgore. He had been a resident of Bellevue since 1969.

He was a graduate of the Beaver High School in West Virginia; the McClains Business College; and attended the University of Florida, Gainsville, Fla. He was a veteran of the Navy Peace time and Korean Conflict.

He was terminal master for Norfolk and Southern and retired in 1986. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bellevue. He served as chairman of the Finance Committee at the church. He was also a member of the Bellevue Lions Club and the American Legion of Bellevue.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gibson Kilgore whom he married Sept. 9, 1950; sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn Steven and Vickie Kilgore of Bellevue, Kevin and Terri Kilgore of Jefferson and Shawn and Jessica Kilgore of Clyde; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard L. Jr. and Betty Kilgore of Tampa, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Munson (Ken).

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St. Bellevue, where a Lion service will be held at 6 p.m. A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Northwest St., Bellevue, with the Rev. Douglas Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

GATE CITY, Va. - Jason Glen Kilgore, 29, of Gate City, Va., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (July 18, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Kingsport, but had lived all his life in Scott County, Va. A graduate of Gate City High School, he played football as an all-state center. Jason attended Virginia Tech and was a member of The Delta Chi Fraternity. He coached little league football for five years and was the offensive line coach at Twin Springs High School for the past three years.

Jason worked at Eastman in materials handling of the Acid Division.

Football was his passion, but he also enjoyed golf, fishing, and four-wheeling. As much as he loved football, nothing could compare to his love for his family.

His maternal grandfather, G.B. "Barney" Sallee, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Kimberly Davis Kilgore; one daughter, Lyndsey Hagood; one son, Logan Hagood; his father and mother, Ray and Patricia Kilgore, of the Yuma community; a brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Bobbie Kilgore, Yuma, Va.; one nephew, Ethan Cash Kilgore; maternal grandmother, Dorethea Sallee, Kingsport; paternal grandparents, Giles and Gladys Kilgore; Kingsport; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barbara and Wayne Davis, Mount Carmel; his best friend, Jim Fitzpatrick; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends.

Jerry Allison Kilgore, 68, of Gate City, passed away unexpectedly (Wednesday December 10, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Jerry worked for several years for Mason Dixon, and in the latter years for himself on his farm.

He was a gentle soul who loved the outdoors and loved to ride his motorcycle. He would do anything for anyone without expecting anything in return.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War.

DAYTON, Ohio - John Kilgore, 63, died Saturday (Aug. 17, 2002) at Montgomery County Fairgrounds after an extended illness.

Born in Scott County, Va., on Oct. 4, 1938, he trained and raced harness horses throughout the United States for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Kilgore and Rebah McClellan Kilgore Giffen; a sister, Norma Jean Camper; and a brother, Robert Darius.

Surviving are three daughters, Ynona Finch, Livingston, Tenn., Renee Davidson, Nashville, Tenn., Tammy Kilgore, Monterey, Tenn.; one son, John Kilgore, Georgia; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, William Kilgore, Ocala, Fla., Elliott and Shirley Kilgore, Kingsport, and Fred and Virginia Kilgore, Kingsport; an ex-wife, also a special friend, Karen Smith Kilgore; two stepdaughters, Amy Nelson, Kingsport, and Tammy Nelson Miguel, Katy, Texas; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Karen Faye Smith Kilgore, 51, passed away Sunday (July 20, 2003) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness and complications due to surgery.

She attended Lynn View High School and graduated from Ider High School, Ider, Ala. She also attended Lake Sumpter Community College, Leesburg, Fla., and graduated from Kingsport School of Practical Nursing. She was employed with The St. Paul Insurance Co. in Maitland, Fla., in the Case Management and Cost Containment Department.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Eason Smith; ex-husband, John Kilgore; and her maternal grandparents.

Mrs. Kilgore was born in Scott County, Va. on May 25, 1923 and was the daughter of Harry and Janie Francisco Fuller.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie E. Kilgore; sisters, Viola Smith and Bessie Carter; and an infant brother, John Fuller.

KINGSPORT - Lucinda "Cindy'' Kilgore, 36, Bloomingdale community, departed this life to a better home with the Lord on Thursday (Jan. 10, 2002).

She fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Lucinda accepted the Lord as her Savior several years ago and was of the Baptist faith. She graduated from Sullivan North High School.

At the time of her illness, she was employed at Asbury Center at Baysmont as a certified nursing assistant.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Kilgore; two brothers, Gerald and Kenneth Kilgore; a special niece, Laura Kilgore; grandparents, Camey and Elihue Kilgore and Lucy and Ledford Cornett; aunt and uncle, Rosa and Pat Marshall; one special uncle, Paul Cornett.

She is survived by three daughters. Mrs. J. G. Shoemaker of Pasco. Wash.. Mrs. J. C. Smith of Kingsport and Mrs. R. D. Richards of Cleveland. Ohio; four sons, Carl E. and Victor H. of Gate City, Clinard R. and C. Boyd Kilgore of Kingsport: two sisters. Mrs. Bill Smith ot Bluefield, W.V. and Mrs. D. C. Dettor of Guilford College, N. C.; two brothers, the Rev. Ruth [Rufus] Kilgore of Bristol, Tenn., and John W. Bush of Gate City.

She was a daughter of Robert [Kilgore] and Louise Hartsock.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Nickelsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Powers, the Rev. N. P. King and the Rev. Joe Byrd officiating. Burial will be In Nickelsville cemetery.

   Nicklesville, Va. - Mrs. Lula McConnell Kilgore, 68, died at her home in this community Monday at 2 p.m. as a result of pneumonia and complications.

   Mrs. Kilgore had been in declining health for some time, and had been seriously ill for the past two weeks. Widely connected in Scott County, she was the daughter of the late William W. and Elam McConnell, and was a member of the Methodist Church.

   She is survived by her husband, Monroe Kilgore; five sons, William R. Kilgore of Norton, John Mack Kilgore of Coeburn, Glen Kilgore of Kingsport, and Roy and Bruce Kilgore of Nicklesville; a daughter Mrs. Henry Hillman of Nicklesville. Two brothers and one sister also survive.

   Funeral services will be held at the home at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in the family cemetery nearby.

WEBER CITY, Va. - Marie M. Kilgore, 78, of Kermit Road, went to be with the Lord late Wednesday evening ( June 01, 2005 ) at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center of Weber City, following an illness.

Born June 7, 1926, a daughter of the late Warren A. and Madge Addington McConnell of Scott County, Va., she was a retired sales clerk with the Fashion Center in Gate City, Va.. She was a member of the Copper Creek Primitive Baptist Church (Addington Frame), and a loving wife, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Callie McConnell; her aunt and uncle, Milburn and Melinda "Mommy Nick" Nickels; two brothers, Fred McConnell and Jack McConnell and a sister, Reba Gillenwater.

Surviving is her husband of 58 years, Glen R. Kilgore of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma Lane and husband, Danny of Knoxville, Tenn., and Linda Campbell and husband, Lowell of Gate City, Va.; a step-brother, Bill Hillman and wife, Anna of Gate City, Va.; four grandchildren, Jeff Campbell, Eric Campbell and wife, Danni, Allen Lane and wife, Cindy and Melissa Moore and husband, Brent; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

KINGSPORT - Margaret E. Kilgore, 80, went to be with the Lord on Friday ( June 6, 2003 ) at Church Hill Health Care.

She was born in Nickelsville , Va. , and was a resident of Kingsport all her life. She retired from Tennessee Eastman and was a member of First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Green Kilgore Sr. and Queen Esther Castle Kilgore; brothers and sisters, Carrie Kilgore, Mildred Fleenor, Claude Kilgore, Earl Kilgore, Radford Kilgore and James Kilgore.

Surviving are her sister, Lorraine Broadwater; and several nieces and nephews.

GATE CITY, Va. - Mary Caroline Kilgore, 90, of Route 2, Midway community, stepped into the arms of Jesus on Sunday (Nov. 20, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born in Russell County, Va. on June 16, 1915 and was the daughter of the late Lindsey Taylor and Hannah Rasnake Taylor. She was retired from Indian Path Medical Center as a nurse and worked as a midwife in the community.

Mrs. Kilgore was a member of Midway Memorial United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan William Kilgore, Sr.; sons, Lindsey Kilgore, Larry Kilgore, Willie Kilgore, Freddie Kilgore; infant daughter, Tilda Kilgore; granddaughter, Machell Kilgore; sisters, Ada, Ebbie, Dora; brothers, Noah, Walt, Henry, Ike.

KINGSPORT — Perry Kilgore, 50, Kingsport, passed away Saturday (May 16, 2009) at his home following a courageous battle against cancer.

Born in Kingsport on Dec. 24, 1958, he was a lifetime resident of Kingsport and an employee of Frito-Lay at Piney Flats. Perry had many interests outside his work, but his greatest joy was his family.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Kilgore; father, Riley M. Kilgore; mother, Hazel Kilgore; two brothers, Gerald and Kenneth Kilgore; and one sister, Lucinda Kilgore.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Cecil Kilgore; daughter, Melody Castle and husband, Jeff; son, Matthew Kilgore; step-sons, Josh Grimes, Sgt. Jeffrey Gilmer and Matthew Gilmer; two sisters, Marcella Farmer and husband, Bill and Malinda Moore and husband, Doug; step-mother, Delphia Kilgore; grandson, Jeffery Castle; niece, Camey Moore; nephew, Jason Farmer; cousin, Lillie Kilgore; and aunt Peggy Cornett and family.

KINGSPORT - Riley M. Kilgore, 82, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday morning (May 2, 2007) at his home.

He was born in Dickenson County, Va. on Oct. 10, 1924. Riley served proudly during World War II in the Army Air Force in the Pacific Theater. He retired from Holston Auto Supply after 31 years. After retiring, he volunteered at the Mountain Home Veterans Hospital for 12 years. He was a member of Bethany Old Regular Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and assistant clerk for several years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elihue Kilgore; and his mother, Camey McCoy Kilgore; one brother, Emory Kilgore; one sister and brother-in-law, Rosa and Pat Marshall; his first wife of 17 years, Hazel Kilgore; two sons, Gerald and Kenneth Kilgore; one daughter, Lucinda Kilgore; and one granddaughter Laura Kilgore.

He is survived by his second wife, Delphia Yates Kilgore of 39 years; one son, Perry Kilgore; two daughters, Marcella and husband, Bill Farmer, Malinda and husband, Doug Moore; four grandchildren, Jason Farmer, Matthew Kilgore, Melody and husband, Jeff Castle and Camey Moore; one great-grandson, Jeffrey Castle; and a special niece, Lillie Kilgore, all of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson in Kingsport and 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Old Regular Baptist Church or anytime at the home.

KINGSPORT — Reba Katherine Williams Kilgore, age 87, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born on July 19, 1920 in Scott County, Va. to Robert Bruce Williams and Minnie Estel Musick Williams.

Her main concern was her family’s happiness. She loved gardening and working outside. She loved to watch a variety of sports, knowing many of the players and their stats. She loved nature and the doves that rested in her kitchen window.

Reba was preceded in death by her husband, Robert O. Kilgore (in 1983); her son, Nick B. Kilgore (in 1983); her parents; her brothers, Claude R. Williams, Carson E. Williams, Frank E. Williams, Hoyt O. Williams and Edsel K. Williams.

Surviving are her three sons, Robert Lewis Kilgore and wife Ada Ruth, Tom Kilgore and wife Sandra, and Reverend Jim L. Kilgore and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Sherri Rogers and husband Brian, Tracy Y. Kilgore and fiance Steve McMillian, Kelly Kilgore, Charlie Kilgore, Brandon Kilgore and wife Chasity, Robby Kilgore and fiancee Rachel Moree; great-grandchildren, Matt Rogers, Andy Rogers, Sarah Rogers, Cordell Kilgore, Katie Kilgore Shull, Keegan Kilgore and Rylee Grace Kilgore; one sister, Bernice Bray and husband Hoyt; two brothers, Clayton Ola Williams and wife Margaret and Arthur Fay Williams and wife Margie; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert A. Kilgore, 86, 934 Walnut Ave., Kingsport, died Monday afternoon [12/16/1985] in Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center after suffering a fall Saturday night.

Born in Hancock County, he had resided in Kingsport since 1937. He was employed by Kingsport Press for over 40 years, retiring in 1963.

He was a member of Stone Drive United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Anderson Kilgore; a daughter, Sally Kilgore Cloud; and a son, Roddie Kilgore.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Maxie) Lane, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Mrs. Sandy Lane Wampler, Knoxville, Larry Cloud, Sulphur Springs, Michael Kilgore, Tampa, Fla. and Allan Lane, Gainesville, Ga.; five great-grandchildren.

COEBURN, Va. - Thelma Peters Kilgore, 88, went home to be with the Lord Thursday (Jan. 13, 2005) at Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, Va.

She was born in Oreton, Lee County, Va., to the late William Robert and Rebecca Miles Peters; four sisters, Leota R. Beverly, Delena Peters, Alberta Skeens and Artence Lynch; a brother, William R. Peters; and infant twin grandsons preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kilgore was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and served the Lord with her husband in carrying out the Lord's work for 70 years. She was a member of Mary's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and served as Vacation Bible School director for 30 years at Mary's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Coeburn Women's Club.

Surviving are her husband, Rev. C.L. Kilgore; a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Randy and Shelby Kilgore of Bristol, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tonya K. and Dr. Preston Hancock of Raleigh, N.C., and Kaye K. and Larry Greear of Coeburn, Va.; five grandchildren, Karin H. COEBURN, Va. - William (Bill) Clarence Kilgore, 81, died Saturday morning [ 2/25/1977 ] at Holston Valley Community Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Scott County, Va. and ran Kilgore’s Cash Store in the Riverview community here for over 35 years. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nellie Turner Kilgore; one son, Tommy Kilgore, Coeburn; one sister, Mrs. Maudie Culbertson, Coeburn; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was born on June 13, 1930 in Scott County, Va., to Robert and Reba Kilgore. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a medic. He traveled and worked all over the U.S.A.

GATE CITY, Va. - Willie “Bill” Kilgore, 81, entered into rest Tuesday (Oct. 4, 2005) at the Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn.

He was born in Scott County, Va., Feb. 28, 1924, to the late Willie Kilgore and Nannie Harris Kilgore.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jennie Kilgore Pope, June 2005, and Flora Ethel Lawson, August 2005.

Mr. Kilgore served in World War II and the Korean War and retired from the Army Reserves in 1967 with two Silver Stars. He also retired from Eastman Kodak after 37 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Kilgore, Gate City; daughter and son-in-law, Janet Darlene and Ronald Thrum, Royersford, Pa.; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Lowell Broadwater, Nickelsville, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Isaac Joe and Agnes Kilgore, Kingsport; special little beagle, "Midnite," several nieces and nephews.

Lee “Mac” Quillen, 76, of Kingsport, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 with his wife by his side. He was a former resident of Virginia and had resided in Kingsport for the past 52 years. Lee served in the U.S. Air Force. His tour of duty was spent in Germany and Tripoli, Libya. Lee “Mac” retired from Holston Defense after 33 years of service and from BAE after 10 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawton and Mary Quillen, and two sisters, Anna Ruth Quillen and Colleen Kilgore.

Lee is survived by his wife, Norma Quillen of the home; son, Kevin Quillen and wife, Tonya of Telford, TN; daughter, Beth Henley from Kingsport; granddaughters (his little angels), Alexis, Katelyn and Sarah Quillen; brothers, J.C. Mr. Kimbler was born in Scott County, Va. on Nov. 5, 1919 and was the son of the late Rufus and Leiza Compton-Kimbler.

He was employed by the Tennessee Eastman Company for 42 years and loved hunting, fishing and farming.

Mr. James Edward Kimbler, Sr; 80, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Church Hill Health and Rehab Center in Church Hill, Tennessee after a six year battle with Alzheimer's.

James was born on September 20th, 1932 in Sullivan County, Tennessee to the late Henry Lee Kimbler and Mary Sanders Kimbler. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the V.F.W. He was a Christian and loved people. James enjoyed fishing, going to flea markets and was self-employed as an auto mechanic.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Lucille Sandidge.

Left to cherish his memory are daughter, Lisa Kimbler Moore and her husband David of Mt. Carmel; son James "Jimmy" Edward Kimbler of Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Jimmie Marie Kimbler of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Jason and Joshua Kimbler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

KINGSPORT — Stacy Wayne Kimbler, 73, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (June 14, 2009) at VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn.

He retired from Kingsport Press after 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the D.A.V.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Janie Renfro Kimbler; and his son, Timothy Kimbler.

He is survived by his sons, Stacy Andrew Kimbler and Travis Wayne Kimbler, both of Kingsport; three granddaughters, Amanda, Alayna and Trinity; sister, Eva Collins and husband, Fred of Kingsport. He is further survived by several cousins.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Greg DePriest officiating.

FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Wilma Ruth Owens Kimbler, 80, of the Alley Valley community, passed away Wednesday (April 11, 2007) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born in Scott County, Va., on Jan. 20, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Bascom Owens and Myrtle Rebeca Summey Owens. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ellis E. Kimbler (05-15-1995); brothers, Edward Owens, Bill Owens, Sam Owens and Ralph Owens; and an infant brother.

Surviving are three daughters, Edna Musick and husband, Edisol, Betty Smith and husband, Lester of Gate City, Va., and Patricia Wininger and husband, C.D. KINGSPORT — Ruth “Sis” Kindle lived a full life and fell asleep in the arms of her Lord in the early morning of Jan. 3, 2009 .

She was a wife, a mom, a mamaw, a sister and above all things, a best friend. Ruth lived her life for God and though we grieve over her passing, we know she is finally home, in the kingdom of Heaven . She had a heart full of love and kindness, as well as a way of leaving an impact on you in one way or another. She lived, she loved, and she left us knowing just how special she really was. Though we miss her, we know we’ll see her soon, some glad day.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivor C. and Georgia Nelms Steadman; brothers, Richard L. Steadman and Darse W. Steadman; and sister, Emogene Steadman Barker.

Anna Ruth is survived by her husband, Otis B. Kindle ; daughter, Lesa Renner and husband, Charles; son, Richard Kindle and wife, Kim; grandchildren, Darby Kindle and wife, Falecia, Holly Kindle , Dusty Kindle and wife, Shannon, Aaron Wild, Britny Renner and Ashlyn Renner; great-grandchildren, Austin Cunningham, Breanna Kindle and Savanah Kindle ; sister, Patsy Fields; twin brother, Ivor Joe Steadman; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT — Geneva Kindle, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday (Sept. 16, 2007) surrounded by loving friends and family.

Geneva was born March 4, 1923 in Clinchport, Va., the 12th of 14 children of Rachael and Andy Adams. She enjoyed most of her life in the Bloomingdale area of Kingsport.

Geneva was loving and devoted to her husband Paul of 61 years, and their son, Griffin Kinard and his partner, Dan Claeys of Knoxville.

Geneva loved life and avid gardener and cook, she nurtured and encouraged everyone she met. She especially loved bingo with her special niece, Jeanette Parker.

Geneva and her family would especially like to thank Advanta Hospice Care and Barbara and Coy Kindle for their unwavering love and support.

We will celebrate Geneva’s life at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to ll:30 a.m. with a memorial service to follow in the chapel.

Edna Elizabeth Gilreath Kindle, age 97, of Kingsport, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2012, after a brief illness.

Edna was born on March 17, 1915, in Fairview, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Taylor and Verna Gilreath. She graduated from the eighth grade, was a good student and played basketball. She attended New Melody Methodist Church. She married Felix Kindle on July 3, 1933 and moved with him to Clinchport, Virginia. In 1939 they moved to Kingsport where she lived for the remainder of her life. Edna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, gardening, growing flowers and quilting. She was a faithful member of the Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. She loved her church and her church family.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Edna was preceded in death by her sisters, Della Vanzant, Beulah Vanzant, Kathleen Smith, Venus Kindle, Lela Gilreath, and her brother Henry Gilreath.

KINGSPORT - Elmer Frank Kindle, 80, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2004) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Kindle was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II as a gun crewman with the heavy artillery where he received awards and decorations including the American Theater Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with one Bronze Arrowhead and two Bronze Service Stars, Philippine Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Admiral Kindle; his mother, Nettie Alice Sloan Kindle; two sisters, Bessie Earl Kindle and Kitty Ann France; and one brother, Larry Edmond Kindle.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Mildred Rhoton Kindle, Kingsport; brothers, James Paul Kindle and wife Geneva and Coy P. Kindle and wife Barbara, both of Kingsport; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was born in Scott County, Va. (Clinchport) and was of the Baptist faith. Paul served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Charles Dewitt Byrd VFW, Post 3382. He later retired from Tennessee Eastman Corp. after 39 years of service.

WEBER CITY, Va. - Larry Edman Kindle , 73, entered into rest on Friday (May 21, 1999) at his residence.

Mr. Kindle was born on January 11, 1926 in Scott County, Va. a son of the late Admiral Dewey and Nettie Sloan Kindle . He was retired from Tennessee Eastman Company.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Kate Kindle ; daughter, Linda Garrett; two sisters, Kitty France and Bessie Earl Kindle ; a granddaughter, Brenda Roberts.

KINGSPORT - Mildred Rhoton Kindle, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning (Feb. 22, 2005).

She was born in Clinchport, Va., and had been a resident of Kingsport since 1943. Mrs. Kindle was a licensed cosmetologist and former owner/operator of her own beauty salon for several years.

Mrs. Kindle was of the Christian faith and was a devoted Christian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Kindle (Feb. 10,2004); four sisters, Lilly, Lula, Maggie, and Mabel; two brothers, James "Jay", and Kermit.

Surviving are her special brother-in-law, Coy Kindle and wife, Barbara; and brother-in-law, Paul Kindle and wife, Geneva; also several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Campbell Anderson King Jr., 81, Kingsport, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 13, 1999) after a long illness.

Born Aug. 17, 1917 to Campbell A. and Fannie Shipley King, he was a lifetime resident of Kingsport. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Gilbert Islands.

In 1978, he retired after more than 42 years with Tennessee Eastman Company. He served in the S&M Division, Research and Development, AAA, Research, Accounting, ECPI Credit and Accounts Receivable, ECPI International Credit and International ECIL. After retirement, he worked for a short time as a consultant for First American Bank.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as secretary-treasurer of the Chapel Sunday School Class for a number of years. He was an avid fisherman, bridge player, bowler and golfer.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel K. King of Kingsport.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Maxine White King; two sons and daughters-in-law, Campbell A. and Barbara D. King, Savannah, Ga., and John J. and Dola G. King, Kingsport; a sister, Marjorie K. Sivert, Kingsport; three granddaughters, Amye King, Jackson, Tenn., Nikelle King, Kingsport and Sarah King, Savannah, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews and special caregivers, Lorraine Hager, Ida Dean and Mike Vermillion.

Elbert Clarence (Trouble) King, 85, 113 Inglewood Avenue, Mount Carmel, died at 4 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 16, 1992) at his home after an extended illness.

Born in Scott County, he had lived in Kingsport and Mount Carmel for most of his life.

He was a farmer and member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Frazier.

Surviving are his wife, Jewel Lawson King, of the home; three daughters, Ms. Wilma King and Bobbie Walker, both of Kingsport, and Ms. Ellen Jane King, Norcross, Ga.; one son, James R. King, Kingsport; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

GATE CITY, Va. - James Edwin King, 88, of Cleveland Street, went to be with the Lord late Sunday evening (June 24, 2007) while at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Westborne, Tenn., and was the son of the late Walter Andrew and Sarah Aiken King.

Mr. King had an extensive service career. Prior to World War II, he served with 29th Field Artillery Battalion as a sergeant at Camp Drum, N.Y. During World War II, he served as a distinguished member of the 559th Field Artillery Battalion with the third Army in Europe.

He participated in the invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, the Allied advances through Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland. He received numerous medals of commendation such as the American Defense Service, American Campaign, Battle of the Bulge, Europe, African and Middle East Service, American Occupation and victory Awards, including four individual Bronze Stars.

Following his active military career, he returned to Gate City, Va., and was one of the original participants in establishing the local National Guard Unit. He retired from Holston Defense Corporation in 1978. He was a member of Faith Bible Tabernacle Church in Hiltons, Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McConnell King; brothers, Clyde, John, Milford and Billy Tom King; sisters, Violet Roberts and Hortense Hall.

Survivors include a sister, Imogene Franklin of Whitesburg, Ky.; special sisters and brothers-in-law, Harvey and Vickie Lane of Knoxville, Tenn., Dewey and Louise Breeding of Gate City, Va.; niece and husband, Jeremy and Leanna Surrett, Knoxville, Tenn., Dr. Steven and Connie Adkins of Gate City, Va. and Dan and Kathyrn Taylor of Florham Park, N.J.; brother-in-law, Robert F. McConnell of Florence, S.C.; special cousin, Allen Ray McConnell of Kingsport.

KINGSPORT - John James King, 63, of Kingsport, died on Tuesday (Oct. 26, 2010).

Born on Jan. 4, 1947, in Kingsport, he graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School. He attended University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, where he met his wife, the former, Dola Guernsey. They moved to San Francisco where he joined the Steve Miller Band as the drummer. With the band, he had a platinum, gold and silver album. After leaving the band, he started his own business, India Street Percussion, selling instruments worldwide. He brought his family and business back to Tennessee to be near his parents and to raise his daughters.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dola of the home; daughters, Amye King Fish and husband, TJ, of Tavares, Fla., Nikelle King Hagy and husband, Adam, of Kingsport; mother, Maxine White King of Kingsport; grandson, Anderson King Fish of Tavares, Fla.; brother, Campbell A. King, III and wife, Barbara, of Savannah, Ga., and their daughter, Sarah King Forrester and husband, Will, of Savannah, Ga.

KINGSPORT - John Ralph King, 86, of Linden Road, died at 1 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 5, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Mr. King was born in Sweetwater, Tenn. and came to Kingsport in 1926. He attended Dobyns-Bennett High School and worked for the Kingsport Power Company. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Ralph was service manager at Stowers Ford, which became Anderson Ford where he worked until 1964. In 1964, he was appointed as a Ford dealer of King Ford Sales of Gate City, Va. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Gate City, Va. and a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert Earl and Birdie Bell King; wife, Frances "Mickie" Quillen King; stepmother, Vira K. King; two brothers, Edward Lee King and wife, Shirley and Frank Knox King.

Surviving are his dear friend and companion, Betty Williams, Kingsport; four daughters, Sherry Boatright and husband, Bob, Kingsport, Mary Roe, Dallas, Tex., Suzi Haubenreich and husband, Joe, Brentwood, Tenn., Eve Bishop and husband, Chip, Lake Junaluska, N.C.; one son, John H. King and wife, Myra, Kingsport; 12 grandchildren, Chris Roe, Alison Sanderson, Brian Boatright, Lauren Partin, Lindsay Caughron, Amber King, John Ralph King II, Sarah King, Jacob Haubenreich, Mary Haubenreich, Claire Bishop and Jack Bishop III; two great-grandsons, Jon Caughron and Geoffrey Sanderson; one brother, Albert Earl King, Jr. and wife, Frances, Charlotte, N.C.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank (Bess) King, Chattanooga, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Kingsport with Dr. Jack C. Bishop, Jr., son-in-law, officiating.

Mr. King will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to services.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, 200 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660 or to the organization of donor's choice.

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — Judith Compton King, wife of David G. King, MD, died on Oct. 3, 2008 following a long illness.

She lived on Kiawah Island and was formerly of Greenville, S.C. Judy was born Feb. 10, 1935 in Clincho, Va., the daughter of Homer B. Compton and Edith Dixon Compton. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School , Kingsport and Randolph-Macon Women’s College. She was a communicant of Christ Church Episcopal and a member of the Thursday Club and served as president.

She is survived by her husband of Kiawah Island, S.C.; two sons, David King, Jr. and his wife, Nina of Greenwich, Conn. and Steven A. King of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Hale, Macaulay and Thayer King; and one sister, Jane Mullins of Athens, Ga.

The relatives and friends of Dr. and Mrs. David G. King are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter in Christ Episcopal Church Chapel in Greenville , S.C. on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Interment will follow in the churchyard.

Memorials may be made to the Christ Church School , 567 Wenwood Road , Greenville , S.C. 29607 .

BRAZIL, Ind. — Larry W. King, Sr., of Brazil, Ind., died Sunday (Nov. 16, 2008) at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
Mr. King was born March 2, 1937 in Kingsport and was the son of the late, Earl M. and Cornie Combs King Martin. On Dec. 31, 1957 he was married to Geneva Samples King in Tennessee. They celebrated their golden anniversary last year.
He had worked for Pell Roofing and Siding in Brazil for 46 years before retiring in 2003. He also worked for King and Williams Guttering Company for a short time. In his earlier years, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and Colts football.
Mr. King was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother at infancy; three brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva; children, Wayne King and wife, Dottie, Earl King and wife, Vicki, Lisa Frazier and husband, Larry, Rob King and wife, Missy; grandchildren, Michelle Tracy and husband, Eric, Shawn, T.J., Mike, Jordan and Danielle King, Josh King and wife, Sharlene, Brandy Brown and husband, Eric, Tiffany King and Whitney King, Cinda Lee and Eddie Lee, Eric, Cameron and Lottie King; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Zach Tracy, Jake, Donovan, Tyler, Jackson Brown, James, Izik and Gracie King, Gavin and Gracen Hoopengardner and Mylah Lee; three sisters, Agnes Kinley, Betty Fleenor and June Wagoner and husband, George and brother-in-law, Tom Samples and wife, Maria; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at French Funeral Home, Brazil, Ind. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tim Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. His grandsons Josh, Shawn, T.J., Mike, Jordan, Ed, Cam and Eric will serve as pallbearers.

KINGSPORT - Lois "Tom" Carver King, 63, Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 14, 2006) in the emergency room at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Sullivan County on May 10, 1943, a daughter of the late Granville and Claudia Lola Begley Carver, she has lived in this area her entire life.

Mrs. King married Edmond "Eddie" King on July 2, 1976 in Kingsport.

She was a retired beautician and attended the Salvation Army, where she was a member of the Ladies Ministries. Mrs. King was a member of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Edmond "Eddie" King; her children, Barry Wade, Patricia Fugate and husband Mark, and Jessie King Dykes and husband Randy; five grandchildren, Timmy Powers, Katrina Minton, Brandon Fugate, Cody Dykes and Cara Dykes; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Powers, Emily Powers, Hunter Minton and Casandra Minton; one brother; four sisters; and a beloved twin sister, Louise "Lou" Penley.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home and at other hours at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Captain Brian West officiating.

Entombment will follow committal services at 11 a.m. on Thursday in East Lawn Memorial Park's Mausoleum II.

Pallbearers will be Randy Dykes, Mark Fugate, Cody Dykes, Brandon Fugate, Brandon Minton, Timmy Powers, Leon Boozer and Lynn Penley.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 505 Dale St., Kingsport, Tenn.

GATE CITY, Va. - Mary McConnell King, 82, went to be with the Lord on Friday (July 23, 2004) at Indian Path Medical Center after a lingering illness.

She was born on July 10, 1922 in the Midway section of Scott County, Va.

She married her husband Ed King, while living in Kentucky. Following World War II, they settled in Gate City, where they have resided for over 60 years. Mrs. King was a devoted wife and meticulous homemaker.

She was an active member of Faith Bible Tabernacle, Hiltons, Va.

She was preceded in death by her father, Victor L. McConnell; mother, Rosa McConnell Salyers; brothers, Edward McConnell and Earl McConnell.

Surviving are her husband, James "Ed" King of the home; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Dewey Breeding, Gate City, Velvia and Harvey Lane, Knoxville; brother, Robert F. McConnell, Florence, S.C.; nieces and nephews, Kathryn (Dan) Taylor, Florham Park, N.J., Connie (Steve) Adkins, Gate City, Leanna (Jeremy) Surrett, Knoxville, Eddie (Clara) McConnell, Moravian Falls, N.C., Raymond (Harriet) McConnell, Florence, S.C., Kenny McConnell, Florence, S.C., Wayne McConnell, Baltimore, Md., and June McConnell, Baltimore, Md.; as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Buford Blankenbecler and the Rev. Paul Blessing officiating.

Graveside services followed in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

PENNINGTON GAP, Va. - Maude Riley King, 91, passed away Friday (Jan. 25, 2002) at Lee Regional Medical Center, Pennington Gap.

She was a life-long resident of Lee County, a former cook for the Lee County School System and was a former employee of Bledsoe's Laundry.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Riley and Roy King; her parents, James and Rebecca Elizabeth Carter; one daughter, Margaret Daugherty; three brothers, Eugene Carter, Bill Carter and James Carter; two sisters, Edna Bishop and Ellen Tipton.

Surviving are one son, John H. Riley, Pennington Gap, Va.; two daughters, Wilma Scanlon, Wilmington, Ohio, and Audrey Stanley, Salem, Ind.; two sisters, Ruth Bishop and Lucille Bishop, both of Rye Cove, Va.; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday from the Station Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lester Franks officiating.

FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Anita Henry Kinkead, 81, Ft. Blackmore, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Monday ( Aug. 28, 2006 ) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center .

She was born in Scott County , Va. on Oct. 12, 1924 to the late Garland R. Henry and Bessie Lee Brickey Henry.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Sue Kinkead and husband, Harry William Kinkead, 2001.

Mrs. Kinkead was the oldest member of Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church . She was a Sunday School teacher and clerk for 30 years. She was a homemaker most of her life. After graduating high school she worked on Langley Field Air Force Base during World War II. She was a retired merchant and dedicated church member.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Wayne Miller, Weber City, Va.; two sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Fran Stone Kinkead, Weber City, Va., and Michael J. Kinkead, Dungannon, Va.; four grandchildren, Richard Miller, Stephen Miller, Pamela Coppenger, Brett Kinkead; great grandchildren, Tyler and Jacob Coppenger, Joshua Miller, Dylan, Cydney and Chloe Kinkead; sisters, Janette Carter, Rye Cove, Va., Gaye Taylor, Tupelo, Miss., and Dana Stout, Kingsport, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews; many friends and extended family, Donnie and Jenny Brickey, Philip and Vickie Lane.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Gate City Funeral Home and any time at the residence.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home, with Rev. Keith McNew and Rev. Raymond Summey officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holston View Cemetery , Weber City , Va. The family will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Ralph Begley, Terry Rhoton and James McConnell will serve as honorary pallbearers.

KINGSPORT — Ben H. Kinkead Jr., 86, Kingsport, went home to Jesus on Friday Dec. 26, 2008).

He served 3 years in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Ben worked at Tennessee Eastman Company for many years and truly enjoyed all the people and friends he made there. While at TEC he was a member of the Rock and Mineral Club. He spent many happy hours collecting and photographing rocks and minerals.

After retiring, he became interested in genealogy and collected information on his Scottish ancestors. With his dear cousin, Joan Hendricks, he actively shared this information in a bimonthly Kinkead Clan Newsletter and at reunions.

Ben served as a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by a precious nephew, George Grills, Jr.

Ben is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane McConnell Kinkead; daughter, Jan Hiltzheimer and husband, Fitz of Savannah, Ga.; two grandsons, Fitz Hiltzheimer IV and wife, Kelly and Ben Hiltzheimer and wife, Kristin; precious great-granddaughters, Haley and Sara and another precious great-grandchild to be born next year; two sisters, Helen Rose Grills of Kingsport and Jane Nelms of Sarasota, Fla; very special nieces and nephews, Jane Jones, Pat Grills, Mickey Grills, Jean Smith, Harry Nelms and Forrest Cash.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport with Wayne Ladd officiating.

He was born in Scott County, Va., May 19, 1929 to the late Lonnie and Nora Stallard Kinkead.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, David Gillenwater.

He was a member of United Mine Workers of America, a member of Fincastle Masonic Lodge #33 and a member of the Jericho Shrine Temple, Kingsport.

He attended Ft. Blackmore United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joy Brickey Kinkead, Ft. DUNGANNON, Va. - Harry William Kinkead, 86, entered into rest Thursday ( Nov. 29, 2001 ) at Holston Valley Medical Center .

He was born in Scott County , Va. , on June 11, 1915 to the late William Anderson and Cora Stewart Kinkead.

Mr. Kinkead was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WW II and served with the 29th Infantry Division. He also attended Pine Grove Baptist Church .

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Sue Kinkead; three sisters, Frances Muth, Bobbie Brickey and Elsie Kinkead; five brothers, Paul, Brady, Bruce, Lonnie and Brodus Kinkead.

Ft. Blackmore, VA - Mrs. Joy Brickey Kinkead, 83, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Monday, June 3, 2013 at her residence in Ft. Blackmore, VA.

Mrs. Kinkead was born in Scott County, VA on April 24, 1930 to the late Clyde M. and Bonnie Mary Fields Brickey.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Elmer Carson "Dude" Kinkead; grandson, David Gillenwater; and sister, Billie Taylor preceded her in death.

He was born in Scott County, Va. on March 14, 1928.

Mr. Kinkead was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie (Bill) Kinkead Tipton; uncle and father figure, Willie Kinkead; and two half-brothers.

KINGSPORT - Agnes Lora Kinsler, 80, passed away Saturday (April 21, 2007) at Brookhaven Manor after a lengthy illness.

Agnes was born in Kermit, Va., Jan. 19, 1927, a daughter of the late Earnest and Emmer Robert Fields. She had fond memories of growing up on the ridge in Rye Cove. Agnes had resided in Kingsport most of her life and attended Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church. She was retired from General Electric.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandson Larry Kinsler; brother Charlie Fields; and sisters, Annie Dockery and Nannie Lee Jobe.

Surviving are her sons, Larry A. Kinsler, Sr. and wife, Mary Alice, Kingsport, David Kinsler, Sykesville, Md.; granddaughters, Anissa Ball and husband, Scott, Kingsport and April Kinsler, San Diego, Calif.; and grandson David Kinsler and wife, Patricia, Baltimore, Md.; step-granddaughter, Angela Harris and husband, Jeremy; two very special great-grandsons, Tyler and Brett Ball; brother, Wallace "Uncle Bud" Fields, Farmville, Va.

Florence Kinsler, 74, Kingsport, TN passed away, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at her residence.

Florence was born in Scott County, VA on February 15, 1940 to the late Authur Lee and Nora Francis Begley Hall.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Paul Kinsler (2007); sisters, Lucille McNutt, Kate Stout; infant brother, Jimmy Hall, Edward Hall, Bobby Hall, and Fred Hall preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Dean and husband, Walter Fred, Church Hill, TN, Teresa Lawson and Gerald Lynch, Kingsport, TN; sons, Freddie Herman Kinsler, Paul Eric Kinsler and wife, Barbara, Ronald Kinsler, Terry Kinsler, and Anthony Kinsler, all of Kingsport, TN; 11grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

Georgia Corena (Kinkead) Masoner Kinsler

KINGSPORT - Georgia Corena Masoner Kinsler, 66, of 112 Santana Road, went to be with the Lord Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn., after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Scott County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Brady Neal and Lillian Gillenwater Kinkead.

She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Larry Ralph Masoner and Clifford Lee Masoner; and her first husband, Ralph Masoner.

Surviving are her husband of 29 years, Tyrone Jetter Kinsler; a daughter, Mary Lou Elliott and husband, Gary, Lancaster, S.C.; two sons, Jerry Wayne Masoner and wife, Dolly, Kingsport, and William David Masoner and wife, Carol, Blountville; two sisters, Patsy Cox, Chicago, Ill., and Mildred Hall, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; five grandchildren, Amanda, Paul, Alicia, Lauren, and Ashley Masoner.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Todd Black officiating.

Entombment will follow in the East Lawn Mausoleum.

KYLES FORD — Homer Kinsler, 79, of Kyles Ford, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 11, 2009, at Hancock County Hospital after a brief illness.

He professed faith in Christ at the age of 29 and joined Livesay Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member until his death.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Grady and Alpha Kinsler; brother, Sonny Kinsler; sisters, Oma Nichols of Kyles Ford and Marie Arnold of Sneedville; and half-sister, Geneva Kinsler, also of Kyles Ford.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Annette Anderson Kinsler, of the home; daughter, Kathy Lynn Seal of Sneedville; grandson, Joshua Randy and wife, Brittany Faith Seal of Sneedville; brothers and sister-in-law, Buster Kinsler of Kyles Ford, and Guy and Eyvonne Kinsler of Kyles Ford; sisters and brother-in-law, Lois Kinsler of Kyles Ford, and Judy and Pearl Mahan of Blackwater, Va.; aunt, Cleo Cook of Church Hill; special nieces, Missy Nichols and Tammy Wade; several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends to mourn his loss

KINGSPORT - Paul Kinsler, 73, Kingsport, entered into rest, Friday (March 9, 2007) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Born in Hancock County on Feb. 26, 1934, he was the son of the late Lon Tyler Kinsler and Julie Johnson.

In addition to his parents, five sisters and six brothers preceded him in death.

Banner L. Kiser

Banner L. Kiser, 61, of Rt. 4, Harrtown Rd., died at his home at 5 p.m. Wednesday [7/10/1974] following an extended illness.

Born in Russell County, Va., he had lived in Kingsport for 22 years.  He was an employe of Tennessee Eastman Company where he worked in the Power and Services Department until his retirement several years ago due to poor health.  He attended Island Road Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucilla Sykee [Sykes] Kiser, of the home; five daughters, Miss Patty Sue Kiser, of the home, Mrs. Ronald (Peggy) Dean, Mrs. Billy (Phyllis) Lane, Mrs. Virgil (Penny) Lane, Mrs. Donald (Linda) Hicks, all of Kingsport; two sons, Lynn E. Kiser, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Robert L. Kiser, Mt. Carmel; five sisters, Mrs. Gladys Hagy, Mrs. Sue Steffey, both of Kingsport, Mrs. Kate Sutherland, Carbo, Va., Mrs. Dacey Gray, Lebanon, Va., Mrs. Georgia Amos, Gate City, Va.; two brothers, Wiley C. C. J. Kiser, a former resident of Gate City and Kingsport, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday [10/15/1968] at Wauchula, Fla. He was 69.

KINGSPORT - Ronald E. Kiser, 69, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning ( Jan. 2, 2005 ) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends.

Mr. Kiser had fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past three years finally winning by going home to be with the Lord. He was born to Daniel and Roberta Kiser of Norton, Va. , on May 27, 1935.

Ronald was a graduate of John I. Burton High School and Clinch Valley College . He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958, was a Scout Master for several years, and enjoyed fishing, the Atlanta Braves, Dobyns-Bennett sports, his grandchildren, and his dogs, Emmy and Josh.

He had worked for different contractors inside Eastman for the past 40 years and retired from Fluor Daniel Construction in 2002.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Joan and Nancy Kiser; and two brothers, Jessee and Wilford Kiser.

Surviving are his loving wife, Joyce Kiser, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina and David Tomlinson, Piney Flats; four sons, Daniel Kiser and friend, Marlene Hutchins, Kingsport, Jeff Selvage and wife, Darlene, Kingsport, Eddie Selvage and wife, Melissa, Martinsburg, W.Va., Frankie Selvage, Houston, Tex.; four grandchildren, Cody Selvage, Tonya Hilton, and twins, Lexi and Laurel Tomlinson; two sisters, Peggy Elam, Niatic, Conn., Madge Rose, Aurora, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport .

KINGSPORT — Amy Marie Long Kistner, 28, of Kingsport, went home in her sleep Wednesday (May 20, 2009).

She was born Aug. 20, 1980 in Kingsport to John and Janice Long and has resided in Kingsport for all of her life. She loved her children and cherished the time spent with them.

She is preceded in death by sister, Jennifer Ranae Long.

She is survived by husband, Bobby Kistner; children, Robbie Caldwell, David and Ashley Kistner; parents, John and Janice Long; brother, John Travis Long; grandparents, James and Billie Clark, D. B. and Faye Long; mother and father-in-law, Roy and Connie Baumgardner; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home with funeral services following at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Salley officiating.

GREENEVILLE — Addie B. Gibson Kress, 72, of Greeneville, formerly of Kingsport, passed away Friday (Feb. 13, 2009) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Vance C. Kress; her parents, Arch and Flora (Smith) Gibson; four sisters, Myrtle Waters, Vernie Smith, Kate Light, and Berneice Light; and one brother, Marvin Gibson.

Surviving are one daughter, Stella Crawford and husband Robert of Greeneville; two granddaughters, Sherry Dolen and husband David of Kingsport, Sheila Johnson and husband Jason of Church Hill; four great-grandchildren, Cody and Jessie Medlin, Chase and Linsey Johnson; three brothers, Gary, Elmer, and William Boyd "Joe" Gibson; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Ronald and Janice Christian.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport or any time at the home of a granddaughter, Sherry Dolen.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Wayne Baker officiating.

Gate City, VA – Peter J. “Jim” Kurapka, age 81 of Gate City, VA passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at his residence. Born in Gate City, VA on August 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Peter James Kurapka VIII and Geraldine Jayne. He was also preceded in death by his son Peter James Kurapka X. He had been employed by the U.S. government and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Kurapka, was a true son of the South and was born on the family farm of Scott County and spent most of his summers here. He loved to travel. He was a member of “Sons of Confederate Veterans” Mr. Kurapka was also a member of “Antique Automobile Club of America”, “Scott Co Historical Society” and “Southwest Virginia Historical Society”. He attended Nottingham United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marian B. Kurapka, of the home; one daughter Virginia Keener; and one son David J. Kurapka and wife Merl Ross; son-in-law Brian Keener and close friend Michael Leonard; and a host of other friends; three grandchildren Miles Keener, Alex Keener and Ava Kurapka.

The family will receive friends Monday, October 28, 2013 from 5 to 7 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, VA. Funeral service will follow at 7PM with Rev. Bill Porter officiating. Music will be provided by Hope Bright.
