Community Hospital Thursday night [8/23/1956] after a lingering illness. He
was born and reared in Hiltons, Va., and was a member of the Baptist
Church there. Surviving
are the widow, Mrs. Opal McClellan Blackard; four sons, James, Kingsport;
Elmer, in the Army; Howard and Richard Blackard, Gate City Route 4; his
father, James S. Blackard, Blountville; four sisters, Mrs. Mamie Curtis,
Kingsport; Mrs. Elsie Clonce, Gate City; Mrs. Elizabeth Carr and Mrs. Faye
Glover, Blountville; and three brothers, Jess, Paris, Ky.; James S.,
Coeburn, Va., and Bill Blackard, Kingsport. Services
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Scott County Funeral Home
chapel. The Rev. Ray Gott and
the Rev. Bill Mercer will officiate. Burial

Maldon (Wilson) Blackard Doris M. Blackard, 88, of
Kingsport went to be with her Lord on Wednesday afternoon, April 4, 2012,
at Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Scott County, Virginia,
she had resided in Kingsport most of her life. Doris was a homemaker and
was a loving wife, mother and mamaw. She was devoted to her family and
church. She was preceded in death by
her husband of 50 years, Bill Blackard; and infant daughter, Sharon K.
Blackard. Doris is survived by her
daughter, Sheila Blackard of Kingsport; son, Billy Wayne Blackard,
Greeneville; granddaughter, Krissy Duncan; great-grandchildren Haven and
Cade Duncan, all of Kingsport; and nieces, Yolanda Townsend, Kingsport and
Nadine Duffy, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends
from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, April 6, at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The

Thomas Blackard KINGSPORT
- James Thomas Blackard, 68, of 300 Summit Oak Drive, went to be with the
Lord Monday (July 10, 2000) in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center,
Mountain Home, Tenn. after a period of declining health. James
was born in Hiltons, Va. on May 14, 1932 to the late Allen Aaron Blackard
and Opal McClellan Blackard of Kingsport. He
retired having worked as a heating and air conditioning repairman for the
Hillard Company. He was a member of the American Legion. James was a
veteran serving with the United States Army. James was a devoted, sincere
and loving father and son. Other
than his mother, James is surviving by two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Wanda K.)
Starnes, Church Hill, Teresa Clayton, Kingsport; son, James Thomas
Blackard Jr., Kingsport; three brothers, Elmer (Bud) Blackard, Virginia,
Howard Blackard and Richard Blackard, both of Maryland; grandchildren,
Amber Brook Charles, Kaylee Starnes, Chadwin James Clayton, Schuyler
Clayton; and one great grandchild, Christopher Lee Charles; several nieces

Grace (McCellan) Blackard GRAY
- Opal Grace McCellan Blackard, 89, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully
Friday (June 25, 2004) at St. John's Healthcare in Gray. Born
in Snowflake, Va., she later lived in Hiltons, Va., before moving to
Kingsport. She worked at Holston Valley Hospital where she retired after
30 years of service. Mrs.
Blackard was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving mother and grandmother
and a kind and giving person who was loved by all. Preceding
her in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom McCellan; her husband,
Allen Blackard; and one son, James T. Blackard. Surviving
are her three sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Betty Blackard of
Maryland, Bud and Joyce Blackard, Richmond, Va., Richard and Pat Blackard
of Maryland; the children of her deceased son, Wanda K. Starnes, Teresa J.
Clayton, and James T. Blackard, all of the Kingsport area. Other survivors
include 10 other grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, and
great-great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. The

Friday, September 14, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Fair
Blair was a lifelong resident of Scott County, VA born on June 10, 1935 to
the late Lawrence Lee and Bower Renda Williams Frazier. She was of the
Baptist faith and was a charter member of Moore's Memorial Church. She
worked for the Scott County School System and retired from the Brian Center
as a cook. Her hobbies were camping on the Clinch River, gardening, and
spending time with her family. In
addition to her parents, Fair Blair is preceded in death by her sisters,
Geneva Frazier Deaver, Mary Dell Frazier Tunnell, Willie Ruth Quillen,
Maggie Frazier Tipton, Ima Jean Frazier, Shirley Frazier Oaks; and her
brother, Henry Frazier. She
is survived by her husband of 60 years Earnest Blair of Gate City, VA;
daughters, Phyllis Nelson and husband, David, Pamela Hutchins and husband,

City, VA - Lola Inez Blair, 86, Gate City, VA passed away, Friday, November
23, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Mrs.
Blair was born in Scott County, VA on November 12, 1926 to the late George
Hiram and Lakie Annis Moore Davidson. She
and her late husband, Earl operated Blair's General Store for over 40 years.
She loved travel and traveled extensively throughout the United States. She
was an active member of Midway Baptist Church for 46 years, where she was
also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Inez dearly loved her church family.
She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Inez
was devoted to her children and so loved her precious granddaughters. They
were the apple of her eye. She
has graced her family with boundless and unending love, kindness, and a
great joy for living. She always demonstrated quiet and enduring faith and
was a beautiful example of God's love and grace. She
will be remembered as an amazing woman, mother, and grandmother who impacted
her family and many friends in immeasurable ways. All were blessed to know
and love her. In
addition to her parents, her husband, Earl Stuart Blair; sister, Trula
Lacher; and brothers, Kermit and Kelly Davidson preceded her in death. She
is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Diana Blair, Gate City, VA and

Grace (Penley) Blankenbecler November 11, 1931 - April 18, 2014 Nyla
Grace Blankenbecler, 82, went to be with the Lord on April 18, 2014. She was
of the Christian faith. Nyla grew up in Scott County, Virginia and attended
Gate City High School. She worked at the shirt factory and the lunch counter
at her cousin’s pharmacy in Gate City, then moved to Kingsport when she
married and became a homemaker. She was always a sweet, loving, supportive and
thoughtful mother. She
had a great sense of humor and told many funny stories about growing up on the
farm. Nyla loved to read and especially enjoyed autobiographies of people in
the news she liked. She had a special love for pets and rescued and found
homes for several and doted on her grand-pets. Nyla was a country and gospel
music fan and especially enjoyed listening to live music. She was a strong
prayer warrior and many sought her prayers over the years. Her life was a
testimony to her Christian values and her faith. We will always love her and
miss her. Each time we visited with her, as we were leaving she always said
“bye for now.” It is with great sadness that we tell her “bye for now”
but we know she is in her heavenly home. Nyla
was predeceased by her husband Charles W. Blankenbecler, parents Clara and
Worley Penley, brothers Herschel and Broadis Penley, and sisters Mabel Penley,
Margaret Dean, and Faye Wright. She
is survived by her children, Serita, Carol, Ivan, and Ella; daughter-in-law
Elida, sisters Sue Dean and Mary Penley, brother Robert Penley, many beloved
nieces and nephews, and special friend Danny Tate. She often spoke fondly of
her friends Judy Ford and Anna Francisco from the time she lived at Kiwanis
Towers. The
family would like to thank the wonderful CNAs and nurses at Nova Health and
Rehab Center for the care they provided to her. We are also very grateful to
the kitchen staff for making her things she liked, including her favorite PB&J. A
Celebration of Life service was held on April 19 for family members, followed

Kingsport Times-News Benjamin Enoch Bledsoe KINGSPORT — Benjamin Enoch Bledsoe, born Dec. 9, 1910, died Jan. 21, 2009, at the age of 98 years.He was the last surviving child of Enoch and Helen Robinette Bledsoe. He was predeceased by his brothers, Hochal, Tom, Sherman, Burem, Roy, Zach, Everette and Burlie; his sisters, Getty, Chloe, Pearl, Maud, Myrtle and Berniece; one son, Richard; and his granddaughter, Armen Mustaklem Combs. During his lifetime, he loved nothing better than spending time with his brothers at the "old home place" reliving their early years. One of his strongest virtues was his sense of family. All of his family have vivid memories of his whistling and singing — he was a people person and never met a stranger. Mr. Bledsoe was a World War II veteran and retiree of Holston Defense Corporation. He was a member of Morrison City Christian Church and attended services as long as his health permitted. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 70 years, Eliza Odell Jennings Bledsoe, his daughters, Billie Jo Mustaklem, Phyllis (Leslie) Burke, Debra (Mark Cochran) Livingston, daughter-in-law, Melissa (Bob) Turner, sons, David (Faye), Tommy (Joy), Larry (Geney); 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. CITY, Va. - Edna Herron Bledsoe, 82, of Manville Road, passed away early
Sunday morning, (May 27, 2007) while at the Wellmont Holston Valley
Medical Center. She
was born Nov. 17, 1924 in Scott County, Va., a daughter of the late Thomas
Lewis and Myrtle Helen Williams Herron. She
was retired from the Tennessee Eastman Corporation (Kodak) after 36 and
half years of service and was of the Methodist faith. She
is preceded in death by husbands, Bill Droke and Carl Bledsoe; two
brothers; and one nephew. Survivors
include daughter, Gerry Ann McConnell and husband, Claude B. Jr. of Gate
City; four grandchildren, LeAnn Crawford and husband, John, Chad McConnell
and wife, Jennifer, Michael McConnell and wife, Kristie and Denisa Harper
and husband, Randall; four great-grandchildren, Braiden, Caitlin, Jessica
and Alyssa; two sisters, Maureen Brooks and Faye Slaughter both of
Kingsport; two brothers, Curtis Herron of Blountville and T.L. Herron of
Gate City; several nieces and nephews, and others also survive. There
will be no formal services at the funeral home. Graveside
services will be Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in the Herron Family Cemetery
off Manville Road, Gate City, Va. Larry Crawford will officiate. Grandsons

heart of our family, Eliza Odell Jennings Bledsoe, passed from this life
on Thursday, April 7, 2011, six days before her 98th birthday. She
was preceded in death by: her parents, Robert Walker and Nevada McClellan
Jennings, infant brother, Ivan; her husband of 70 plus years, Benjamin E.
Bledsoe, son, Richard Bledsoe, granddaughter, Armen Elizabeth Combs,
brother, Hansel Jennings, and sister, Pearl Price. Odell was the last
surviving spouse of the last survivor of the 15 children of Enoch and
Helene Bledsoe. Left
to cherish her memory are her children: Billie Jo Mustaklem, Phyllis (Les)
Burke, David (Faye) Bledsoe, Tommy (Joy) Bledsoe, Larry (Genie) Bledsoe,
Debra (Mark Cochran) Livingston and Melissa (Bob) Turner. Also, surviving
are 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one

mother once commented that all she wanted to be in her life was a mother.
We mourn our loss, but rejoice knowing she achieved her ambition and set a
high standard of excellence with her performance. To quote from a Sampler
she once had "To know her is to love her and love her but forever,
for God did make her what she is and never made such another." We
extend heartfelt thanks to Ona Poole for her love, care and devotion; to
Dr. Robert Funke for his compassion and care and to the Charles J. Good

Jerry Lee Bledsoe Pattonsville
- Jerry Lee Bledsoe, 59, of Pattonsville VA., went to be with the Lord
November 20, 2012 after battling cancer. Jerry went to be with the Lord
while surrounded by family and loved ones at his side. Jerry
has touched many lives over the years of his life and has also made many
friends. Jerry will be truly missed and was a very loving husband, father,
poppy, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and fellow miner. Jerry and Phyllis
became united as husband and wife January 31, 1975. Jerry was born in
Pattonsville, VA. June 18, 1953 and was the son of the late Hillard and
Lucinda Johnson Bledsoe. Jerry was of the Christian faith. He graduated from
Rye Cove High School in 1971 and then joined the 101st Airborne in Fort
Campbell, Kentucky. Jerry began his mining career in 1974 and continued to
work in the mining industry as an Emergency Response Coordinator Instructor
for Maxxim Shared Services for Virginia Business Units, where he supervised
five mine rescue teams. He also worked two mine rescue explosions and was a
valuable asset to the company for training and teaching others for
preparations for future mining emergencies. Jerry was also the first
paramedic in Scott County, Virginia. He has been a volunteer at Duffield
Fire and Rescue since 1975 and was currently serving on the Board of
Directors for Duffield Fire and Rescue. Jerry also taught many medical
certification classes at Mountain Empire Community College and also classes
throughout Southwest Virginia. He also was a member of the VFW Post #265. Jerry
was preceded in death by his parents Hillard and Lucinda Bledsoe, and
brother, Wayne Bledsoe. He
is survived by his wife of 37 years Phyllis Spivey Bledsoe; one special son:
Noah Lee Bledsoe (pet); two daughters: Melanie Fields and fiancé Scott
Talley, Misty Burke and spouse Walter Burke; two granddaughters: Makayla
Fields and Madeline Talley; two step-granddaughters: Lauren Burke Moore and
April Burke; and two step-grandchildren: Adyson and Braedi Moore. Jerry is
also survived by four brothers: Michael Bledsoe and wife, Kathleen; Paul
Bledsoe and wife, Bea; Ralph Bledsoe and wife Jo; Hoyt Bledsoe and wife,
Phyllis; two sisters: Debbie Burchell; Burren Evans and husband, Don.
Several special nieces and nephews who helped throughout his illness were

Born in Scott County, Va., on August 14, 1918, he was a son of the late Addison and Lizzie Childress Bledsoe. He retired from Dayton Walther in 1980 and from farming in 2001. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Orbin and Roy Bledsoe. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Virgie Vaughn Bledsoe; daughters, Opal Gibson of Clayton, Velda Bledsoe and David Baker of Trotwood, and Elizabeth Bledsoe of Mass.; grandchildren, Lori and Doug Gilbert, Lisa Gibson, Nathaniel, Amy and Emma Sybenga; great-grandsons, Trenton and Dylan Gilbert; brother, Homer Bledsoe; loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nephews and nieces; and a friend of many years, David Gilliam. Nancy struggled the past two years with numerous health problems, but the Lord continued to give her strength to fight each battle. Richard Albert Bledsoe BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Richard A. Bledsoe, 83, of the Wildcat Road, passed away Thursday (May 1, 2003) at home. He worked at a sawmill and later as a well-driller. He had a small repair shop and enjoyed feeding birds and gardening, where he was known for his fall crop of mustard greens which he shared with all who came to pick them. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. compassionate spirit and abiding Christian faith, Sue lived a life of
service to others. She spent the greater part of her adult life providing
care and comfort to the sick and the elderly. For the families of those she
served, she will forever be remembered for her kind heart and gentle nature. Above all else, Sue will be

cook, Sue loved nothing more than Sunday afternoons, when she would prepare

Blessing Blessing August
18, 1923 - January 16, 2014 Clifford Franklin Blessing was born August 18, 1923 at (Cassard) Kermit,
VA, the second child of William D. and Mary Belle Grimm Blessing. He attended Grimm School through the fourth grade and continued his education at the combined elementary and Cleveland High School (Yuma). After graduation at the age of 17, he enrolled at a technical school in Manassas, VA. There he studied electric and oxyacetylene welding. He then continued his training at a technical school in Blacksburg, VA concentrating on oxyacetylene welding and airplane mechanics. After completing studies at Blacksburg, Clifford worked a short time in Baltimore, MD at an aircraft assembly plant. In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army after completing basic training he
was assigned to the 470th A.A.A. A.W. BN. Clifford served with this unit
in the South Pacific Theater of operations in New Guinea, South
Philippines and Luzon. He was involved in the invasion of three islands
in the Philippines. His unit was awarded a Certificate of Commendation
by the General of the 8th Army, General Robert Eichelberger, for their
support of the infantry and paratroopers in operations and battles on
Negros Island in the Philippines. Clifford was awarded 5 Bronze Battle Stars for his service with the 470th
A.A.A. A.W. BN. He was very proud of his military service but rarely
talked of his combat action. In February 1946 he was honorably
discharged. September 1946 he took advantage of the GI Bill and enrolled at King
College, Bristol, TN where he earned a B.A. degree. Clifford was later
awarded; a Master’s Degree in Education from Union College,
Barbourville, KY. In 1949 he began a teaching career that spanned a
period of 37 years at Cleveland High School and Yuma Elementary School. In 1991, desiring to give back service to the county, Clifford
volunteered to serve with the Scott County Redevelopment and Housing
Authority. He gave several years of service to the county on this board.
He was an active member of the Yuma Senior Citizens serving four years
as president. During his illness he kept in touch with the senior
citizens from his home. Clifford accepted Christ as his savior in late teens. He attended Kermit
Mission Church where he taught the Men’s Sunday school class for a
short time before entering college. Later he joined the First Baptist
Church of Weber City. After college he moved his membership to Cowan’s
Branch Baptist Church where he co-taught the Men’s Sunday school class
becoming the full time teacher. He currently was attending Cameron
United Methodist Church where he also taught a Sunday school class as
needed. Special thanks and appreciation to the pastor and members of Cameron
United Methodist Church for your prayers, support, encouragement and the
goodies provided during his illness; and to those special cousins,
Nataleen and Wanda, you are appreciated more than words can express. To
our special niece, Wanda Neeley, for all the trips with us to Allendale
and the hospital; you are truly a wonderful person. To Margie Winegar,
Clifford’s student and friend; to helpful neighbors Samuel Newland,
Faye Salling, Mary Hashbarger, Donald Overbay and Emily, thank you for

Kingsport Times-News James Edward Blessing Ret.Col. PENDLETON, S.C. - Ret. Col. James E. Blessing, 84, died at his home on Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000). He was born on Nov. 12, 1916 in Scott County, Va., the son of the late John and Ethel Taylor Blessing. Col. Blessing was a graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Dairy Science. He helped set up the famous blue cheese production in Stump House Mt. He was affectionately known as "The Col." around the Clemson area. He played on the 1939 Cotton Bowl team. After graduation he served his country as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Marine Corps. As a member of the Edson's Raiders he fought at the battle of Guadalcanal. After being wounded in Sept. 1942, he was evacuated to a Navy hospital. In December he was ordered to Guam as a Co-Commander with the Second Engineering Battalion for their operations and landing on Iwo Jima. After completing that operation, he returned to Guam and was sent to occupy southern Japan at Sasebo. Col. Blessing was awarded the Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation with three stars, the Navy Citation with two stars, the American Defense Medal, the Pacific Campaign Medal with four stars, the Occupation Medal, and the American Campaign Ribbon. Col. Blessing was a retired consultant with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. He was an active member of numerous civic organizations and served on the advisory board of the Boy Scouts. Col. Blessing was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport and was presently serving as elder at Pendleton Presbyterian Church. Col. Bowen Blevins KINGSPORT- Rose Allie Bowen Blevins, 87, of Kingsport entered eternal rest Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at the Wexford House following a period of declining health. Born
in Blackwater, VA., on Dec. 9, 1923, a daughter of the late Gale R. and Cora
Lenna Giles Bowen, she has resided in this area since 1974. She
retired in 1998 from Holston Valley Medical Center following an extensive
career as a hospital technician. Rose
will be remembered as a loving, caring, giving mom, mamaw, sister, aunt and
friend whose life touched many others. She we be greatly missed by all
who knew her. In
addition to her parents she is preceded in death by husband, Hester O.
Blevins; son, Steven Gale Blevins, infant son, Larry Richard Blevins,
granddaughter, Melanie Dawn Brickey, and several brother and sisters. Survivors

Bloomer Sr., 84, of Ripley Lane, went home to be with the Lord late Friday afternoon (March 4, 2005) at Bristol Hospice House. He was born in Fairview, Va., (England Valley) but had spent the majority of his life in the Ross Campground community. Mr. Bloomer had served in the U.S. Army in Pearl Harbor in 1942. He belonged to the Charles DeWitt Byrd VFW Post # 3382 and the American Legion Hammond Post # 3 with more than 50 years as a member. Bruce Bloomer was active with the Boy Scouts troop # 148 located at the Ross Campground community. Mr. Bloomer had founded and owned Bloomer's Jewelers until his retirement in 1988. During this time he was a member of the watchmakers association. He was a member of Ross Campground United Methodist Church for 40 years where he held offices of treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the church choir. Mr. Bloomer was also an avid supporter of the Salvation Army. Bruce loved the outdoors where he loved fishing, loved boating, loved camping and especially loved to garden. Franklin Boatright, 97, of Kingsport died Wednesday, November 27, 2013,
at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He
was born near the waters of Big Stoney Creek in Ft. Blackmore, VA on the
family farm that was first settled by the father of his grandfather’s
grandfather (five generations.) His father died when “R.F.” was four
years old and his mother taught school and farmed to support herself and
her four young children. These circumstances caused him to learn the
value of hard work at a young age and at a time when food was raised in
a garden, water was carried from the spring, cows were milked by hand,
and corn was shucked and carried to the mill. He developed an
independence characterized by a “do it yourself” spirit and an
obstinate self-confidence that his way was the best way. Upon
graduation from Dungannon High School he obtained employment as a
general laborer at Tennessee Eastman Company. More than forty years
later, utilizing the work ethic and sharp mind that he developed in his
youth, he retired as a technical services representative, having
traveled to many parts of the country to consult and assist Eastman
customers. During World War II he transferred to Oak Ridge, TN and
participated in the war effort there. He
was married to his high school sweetheart, Sue Rhoton, for seventy years
and together they raised four children. They were members of Mafair
United Methodist Church. Known
to his family and childhood friends as “R.F.” and as “Bob” to
his co-workers and acquaintances, he served as an adult leader in both
the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, offering fatherly advice and
instruction to many young scouts. He devoted much of his spare time, at
first by necessity and later by choice, working on the farm where he was
born and where he loved to spend his Saturdays. He
was a devoted caregiver and protector of both his mother and his wife in
their later years. R.F. was loved by family and friends, respected by
those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed. He was blessed to
have a very special caregiver, Jorita Plowman, as well as Diane Bare and
Susan Hess. The children again thank Dr. Gary Casey for his
extraordinary medical care for both of their parents. R.F.
was preceded in death by his wife, Sue R. Boatright, and parents, Homer
C. and Elnora Quillen Boatright. He
is survived by his three daughters, Carolyn B. Allen and husband, Jerry
of Kingsport, Evelyn B. Adams of Gray, and Linda B. Williams and
husband, Tom of Sarasota, FL; son, J. Robert Boatright and wife, Sherry
of Ft. Blackmore, VA; seven grandchildren, Deborah A. Wallace, Amy A.
White, Lisa Shanklin, Kelly Gilliland, Brittany Birken, Brian Boatright
and Lauren Partin; eleven great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Fred
Quillin. The
family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-4:00 pm at Hamlet-Dobson
Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm in the
Chapel with Rev. Steven Collins officiating. Graveside

Tennessee - James "Tyler" Bond, age 26, of Maryville passed away
Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Tyler attended the Maryville City School system
and graduated from Maryville High School in 2005. He was an avid athlete who
participated in many sports, especially loving football and baseball. Some
of his favorite times were his many family trips to the beach and to Italy.
Tyler was a loving, caring soul, and he will always be remembered for his
zeal for life and big heart. He was

Carolyn was a registered nurse and practiced 31 years in the Toombs County area of Georgia. She was a native of Kingsport, TN and lived in Lyons, GA for the past 40 years. She was predeceased by her first husband, Bill W. Dingus and her second husband, J. Paul Brown. Survivors are three children, Anthony Wayne Dingus (Julie), Susan Cerese Jacobs (Brad) and Alan Reid Dingus; two brothers, Denver Dan Horton (Loyis) and Wade Horton (Iris); five grandchildren, three step-children and three step grand-children also survive. Carolyn was a pianist and organist, serving 33 years at First United Methodist Church, Lyons, GA. She was a budy member of the community, doing volunteer work and church work. She wanted to be remembered as loving and honoring God and family. Visitation is Thursday night from 6 pm until 8 pm. James Sidney Brown, Jr., USAF (Retired) KINGSPORT — We are saddened to announce the
passing of James Sidney “Jim” Brown, Jr., 79, of Kingsport, on the
evening of April 17, [2011] following an extended illness. As was his
fond wish, he passed peacefully at home in the gentle care of his
family. He was born He was preceded in death by his parents, James
Sidney Brown in 1985, and Rosa Ilena Arnold Brown in 1997, a brother
Billy Wayne Brown in 1951, and his first wife Nellie Gray Harless Brown
in 1972. He is survived by Nancy Ann Compton Brown, his
wife of over 36 years. He leaves six children: Charlotte Blair (James),

1924, the daughter of the late William Ray Horton and Ethel Jennings
Horton. In addition to her parents, her sister, Mildred
Blair, brothers, Robert Horton, Tommy Horton, and James Elmer Horton
preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Vernon Sam Bostic;
son, James Miller; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Miller; granddaughters,
Karen Miller and Kim Begley; great granddaughter, Heather Begley;
brother, Paul Horton; special niece, Ethel Sexton; special friends, Cole
