DUFFIELD, Va. — Gaynell Perry Begley, 55, went home to be with the Lord Friday (Dec. 19, 2008).

She was preceded in death by her parents, John William Perry and Etta Jewel Hall Perry; two sisters, Sarah Robertson, Ona Starnes; two brothers, Curtis Perry, Valentine Perry.

Surviving are her husband, Linis Begley of the home; three daughters, Tammy Renea Begley Springen of Kingsport, Samantha Kate Begley of Duffield, Penny Michelle Begley of Duffield; three sisters, Darlene Sue Bowen and husband, Larry of Hiltons, Julia Bernice Mitchell of Nickelsville, Nancy Hass and husband, Clifford of Duffield; two brothers, Gerald Perry of Duffield, Roy Perry of York, Pa.; three grandchildren, Katie Michelle Sullins of Duffield, Clara Renea Sullins of Duffield, Melinda Darlene Sullins of Duffield; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home and anytime at the home.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church, Stoney Creek, Ft. Blackmore with Rev. Larry Browder and Delmo Jessie.

Burial will follow funeral services at Begley Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore.

Harmon C. Begley, age 90, of Montpelier, Ind., passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, Ind.

He was born on Feb. 24, 1911 in Fort Blackmore , the son of the late Peter and Hannah Jane (Estep) Begley.

He was a Navy Veteran and retired from the City of Montpelier after several years of service.

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Montpelier , Ind.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, P. Shirlene Binegar; a sister and three brothers.

His survivors include his wife, Dovie C. Lane Begley, whom he married March 14, 1964; five step daughters, Marie (Dewey) Zent, Warren, Ind., Hazel Cook, Bristol, Tenn., Elsie Alley, Church Hill, Tenn., Inez Ledford, Morganton, N .C. and Larue McKinney, Marion, N .C.; one stepson, Palmer Gillenwater, Baltimore, Mary.; step son-in- law, John Binegar, Penneville, Ind.; nieces, June Brickey, Marie Anderson, Ruth Sarvor, Wanda B. Darnell, Gladys B.Babb, Mattie B. Moore; nephews, Joe W. Begley, E.C. Begley, Jr., Kenneth Begley, Cecil Lane, Cecil (Tiny) Begley, Oscar (Tom) Begley, Jimmy Rhea Begley, Jackie Begley, James Begley, Ralph Begley and Arnold Begley.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Glancy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wilbur Taylor and the Rev. Billy Stanton officiating.

Burial followed at Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier , lnd.

DUNGANNON, Va. - Hettie Mildred Begley , 64, Route 1, entered into rest Saturday ( Jan. 22, 2000 ) at Holston Valley Medical Center .

She was born in Kingsport , Tenn. on June 9, 1935 , a daughter of the late Sam and Carrie Peak Penley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Penley [Begley]; daughters, Carrie Peak Penley, Thelma Christine Begley , and Brenda Joann Begley ; sons, Carl Begley , Rickey Lawrence Begley , and Aaron Russell Begley .

Surviving are her daughter, Doris Mae Begley , Gate City; sons, Eckle Matthew Begley and Wade Earful Begley , both of Kingsport; sisters, Thelma White, Charlotte, N.C., Charlotte Duncan, Norton, Va. and Genvie Penley, Kingsport; brother, Eckle Penley, Coeburn, Va.; 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Gate City Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Green's Chapel Church in the Stoney Creek area, with the Rev. Stanley Tate officiating. Mrs. Begley will lie in state one hour prior to the services. Music will be provided by James and Evelyn Brickey.

Interment will be in Laney Cemetery on High Knob Mountain . Pallbearers will be Rickey Begley , Stanley Begley , James Hall, Timmy Begley , Matt Penley, and Keith Summey.

Ida Hall Begley, 94, entered into rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday ( Feb. 16, 2004 ) with her family by her bedside.

Born Sept. 5, 1909 in Scott County , Va. , she had spent most of her life in Kingsport . She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and talking with friends.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Kathern Lucille Tipton Begley, 61, Dungannon, VA passed away, Saturday, December 10, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Begley was born in Scott County, VA on February 18, 1950, the daughter of the late Palmer Tipton and Eliza Elizabeth Necessary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Starnes, and an infant brother, Timmy Necessary.

KINGSPORT - Keith Milburn Begley, 76, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday (Sept. 19, 2004) at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. Begley was born on Jan. 6, 1928 in Exeter, Va., to the late James G. (Jay) and Lina Dillon Begley. He lived the majority of his life in Kingsport. Mr. Begley was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church.

Mr. Begley retired from Holston Army Ammunition Plant in 1990. He was a previous member of the Bloomingdale Ruritan, the Kingsport Elks Lodge, the Kingsport Moose Lodge, and the American Legion Hammond Post #3. He loved hunting, boating and skiing. In short, he just loved to play.

In addition to his parents, two sisters, Muriel D. Begley Crofoot and Anna Mae Begley Hurst; and three brothers, H.C. Begley, Ronald Amos Begley and Donald Andy Begley preceded Mr. Begley in death.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ina Pauline (Polly) Begley; two sons, Robert P. Begley and wife Maeva Elliott Begley, and James K. (Jim) Begley and wife Billie Colvin Begley; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Dungannon, VA - Ralph Begley, 66, Dungannon, VA passed away September 27, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center as the result of injuries sustained in a motor cycle accident.

Ralph was born May 7, 1946 in Scott County, VA, to the late Robert and Sally Sluss Begley. He was a retired coal miner with Westmorland Coal.

He was an Evangelist and attended Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church and Durham's Chapel.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Kathern Lucille Begley; sisters, Pearly Summy, Erma Weatherly, Eslie Begley, Rozella Begley, and Beulah Steele; and brothers, Ray Begley, Elmore Begley, Con Begley, Cecil Begley, and Cag Begley preceded him in death.

KINGSPORT - Velma Allen Begley, 83, Kingsport , graduated to her heavenly home on Saturday ( April 29,2006 ) on her 83rd birthday.

Born in Hawkins County , she had resided in Kingsport since she was five years old. Mrs. Begley was a member of West View Baptist Church , where she taught Sunday School for almost 49 years.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Gerald R. Begley, former pastor of West view Baptist Church ; her son, Gerald D Begley; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Sue Bays Begley; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Brooks Hain.

Surviving are her son Terry Begley and wife Connie, Kingsport; daughter Cathy Quillen and husband Bonny, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Phil Begley and wife Traci, Jody Begley and wife Susan, Amy Begley Hain and husband Scott, Kent Begley, and Holly Quillen and fiancee Jeremy Underwood; six great-grandchildren, Blake Begley, Beau Begley, Jackson Begley, Sydney Begley, Kate and Sam Hain; brother, Kermit Allen; several nieces and nephews.

BEDFORD , Va. - Emily Giles Beisser, 57, went to be with the Lord on Monday ( April 16, 2001 ) at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital .

It was her 35th wedding anniversary. Emily was taken ill with a brain aneurysm suddenly Sunday ( April 15, 2001 ).

She was the wife of Franz X. Beisser III, and was a member of Mount Olivet Southern Baptist Church.

Emily and Franz founded B&B Printing in Bedford and have been joined in their family business by their sons.

Emily was a devoted child of God, loving wife and mother, and was known to her precious seven grandchildren as "Granny Em".

She was born in the Purchase Ridge community of Duffield , Va. in Scott County on Nov. 26, 1943 , and was the daughter of the late Baker Leonard Giles and Thelma Smith Giles.

Emily loved flowers and working in her garden and was an auxiliary member of The Gideons International.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Franz X. Beisser IV and Kathryn and their children Jacob, Megan and Laura, of Bedford, Alfons J. Pattonsville, Va.—Funeral services for Conley L. Bell, 80, who died

at a Marion hospital with a heart condition at 1:35 p. m. Thursday,

will be held Saturday at 2:00 p. m. at Mountain View Methodist Church. The Rev. N. P. King of Gate City and the Rev. Rand Mendenhall will officiate. Burial will be in a nearby cemetery.

Mr. Bell, a native of Pattonsville, was the son of the late Dr. A. R. T. Bell. His mother was the former Miss Judy DeRossett of Kentucky.

He was a member of the Mountain View Methodist Church.

Survivors Include one sister, Mrs. Alice Dykes of Kingsport.

LAKELAND, Fla. - Floyd Daniel Bell, 58, 205 W. Socrum Loop Road, Lakeland, Fla., died Saturday (April 11, 1992) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Born in Gate City, Va., he moved to Lakeland, Fla., from Gate City in 1954. He was a retired .technician for General Telephone Company after 33 years.

Mr. Bell was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Gapway Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Martha Geraldine Bell in 1985.

Surviving are a son, Daniel A. Bell, Lakeland, Fla.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Judge C. Bell, Kingsport and J. David Bell, Hernando, Fla.; six sisters, Mrs. Mary A. KINGSPORT — Jean Bell, 74, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Sunday (June 22, 2008) at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She was a former resident of Hollywood, Fla., but had made her home in Kingsport for the past seven years. Jean attended Pleasant View Baptist Church, was a loyal Atlanta Braves fan, and was a homemaker.

Preceding her in death were her husband, James D. Bell; her parents, Roberta and Houston Conkin; one son, Mike Bell; one sister, Gladys Grissom; and her stepfather, Roy Harless.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Pica and husband, Carl of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sons, Richard Bell and wife, Becky of Hobe Sound, Fla., Tony Bell of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Mark Bell of Newnan, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Page of Kingsport, Linda Johnston and husband, John of Hendersonville, N.C.; one brother, Kenny Conkin of Kingsport; and many loving nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Judge Carson Bell, 76, of the Bloomingdale community, went to be with the Lord Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) after an extended illness.

He was born April 18, 1925 in Appalachia, Va., a son of the late James Presley and Rosa Dishner Bell.

Judge retired in 1987 from Arcata Graphics after 27 years of service.

Judge was a decorated veteran of World War II. He served in North Africa, the invasion of Anzio, Italy, and France. His medals included: the Bronze Star, Expert Rifleman, Victory Medal, Middle Eastern Campaign, Good Conduct, Combat Infantryman, Honorable Service. He served in the war from July, 1943 to 1945.

Judge was a member of the Gate City Blue Devils football team in 1942 and 1943, after which he continued to be an avid fan. He was a retired master carpenter, a trade he learned from his father. He was a lifelong fisherman and loved nothing better than wetting a line in the river and teaching his fishing secrets to his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Judge was a great husband, son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Bell and Floyd Bell; one sister, Joan Bell Bradley.

Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Phyllis Jacquelyn Bowen Bell; daughters, Peggy Meeks, Ft. Smith, Ark., and Sherry Boling, Weber City, Va.; sons, Phillip Bell, Kingsport, and Chuck Bell, Kingsport; grandchildren, Robert E. Boling, John D. He was a 50-year member of Rayburn Odd Fellows Lodge No. 157 of Duffield.

Son of William W. and Elizabeth Bell of Scott County, VA.

Robert Emmett Bell was the seventh born (of eight) of William W. Bell and Elizabeth Low(e). His young life was cut short by the Civil War and very little is known of him except thru military information and records. He lived in Wythe County, VA in 1861 and from here he enlisted as a private in the CSA on 24 June 1861, leaving his farm work behind. He enlisted in Company A, Virginia 50th Infantry Regiment with many of his relatives and neighbors of Scott County, VA. He saw action at Fort Donelson, TN in early February 1862 when Gen. Ulysses S. Grant advanced on the Fort (coming from his fresh victory at Fort Henry). 

The Battle of Fort Donelson in Stewart County, Tennessee was only a few days in length: Feb. 11 to Feb 16, 1862. It was one of the first most significant battles won by Union forces. A victory at this location opened up major portions of Tennessee for Union activities. The strategic location of this battle would be of major importance for the remainder of the war. 

Robert Emmett Bell sustained a mortal wound on Feb. 15, 1862 in this battle and died 20 Feb. 1862 at the young age of 24 at the Clarksville Confederate Hospital. Robert Emmett Bell was injured on the last day of the Confederate thrust against U.S. Grant. Great damage was done to the Confederacy at this time. The casualties at Fort Donelson were significant. Union losses were 2,691 (507 killed, 1,976 wounded, 208 captured/missing), Confederate 13,846 (327 killed, 1,127 wounded, 12,392 captured/missing). Many of the Confederate lost or captured were from Scott and nearby counties in SW Virginia.

Robert Emmett Bell was buried in a mass grave for fallen soldiers at the Clarksville Female Academy. Here over 307 CSA soldiers were buried. In 1897 a local landslide exposed some of the buried remains and 127 were reinterred at the Riverview Cemetery in Montgomery County, TN. The remains of CSA soldiers who remained were entombed under a road construction project when a highway project was constructed some years later. The City of Clarksville later agreed to name the bridge the Confederate Soldier Memorial Bridge. A monument to the fallen soldiers was erected at the Riverview Cemetery in 2001.

The Bell family in October 2013 honors the ultimate sacrifice made by Robert Emmett Bell with placement of a permanent bronze memorial at the Bell Family Cemetery. His memorial holds a place of honor next to monument of his brother Dr. Archibald R. Turk Bell. Robert Emmett Bell was awarded the Confederate Medal of Valor by the Veterans Administration for his honorable service.

GATE CITY, Va. - Blanche (Wininger) Bellamy, 93, of the Chalybeate Springs community, went to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon (March 7, 2006) at the Brian Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Weber City, Va., after a long illness.

She was born July 11, 1912, a daughter of the late Walter P. and Ida B. Hensley Wininger of Scott County, Va. She was a homemaker and the oldest member of Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester A. Bellamy (1958): brother, Tom Wininger; sisters, Emily Ratliff and Claudia Ramey.

Survivors include her son, Edsel W. Bellamy and wife Mildred; grandchildren, Janet Reedy and husband Allan, Terry Arwood and husband Gary; great-grandchildren, Michelle Reedy, Leslie Tate and husbands Aaron, Abram Arwood and Austin Arwood; great-granddaughter, Kaylee Bishop; brother, Clarence D. He retired from Scott County Welfare Department in 1978 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church .

Rev. Claude V. Bellamy, 79, retired Methodist minister, died in Johnson City Memorial Hospital at 2:40 p.m. Friday [ 12/31/1966 ] after a linger illness.

A native of Hawkins County , Mr. Bellamy had served pastorates in the Virginia Methodist Conference during his active ministry and moved back to this section on retirement.  He lived at 224 Proffitt Acres Lane and before his illness taught a men's Bible class at Broad Street Methodist Church .

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Osta Bellamy; sister, Mrs. Mallie Jones of Cowans Branch, and brother, Henry Bellamy of Kingsport .

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Broad Street Methodist Church .  Rev. Dr. Frank Porter will conduct the service, assisted by Rev. Harold Harris and Rev. John Ripley.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery .

She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County , ( Kingsport ).

She retired from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center as a nurse. She attended Victory Baptist Church .

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jean Walker; her parents, Phillip H. Harless and Virginia Barton Harless; three brothers and two sisters.

GATE CITY , Va. - Donnie Lee Bellamy, 65, Route 3, went to be with his Lord surrounded by his family Tuesday ( Feb. 23, 1999 ) at Holston Valley Medical Center .

He was born and lived most of his life in Scott County, Va. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Company's S&M Division in the early 1980s for health reasons. He was a member of Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday school superintendent, teacher and member of various committees. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in Korea as a communications specialist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Lee and Martha Kate Snapp Bellamy.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Ruby Faye Bellamy, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Faye and Rodney Rowlett II, Kingsport; two grandsons, Bart and Luke Rowlett, Kingsport; three sisters, Mrs. Ed (Edna) Houseright, Mrs. Paul (Hazel) Wininger and Mrs. Tyler (Dorothy) Davidson Jr., all of Gate City, Va.; three brothers, Edley H. GATE CITY , Va. — Edley Hugh Bellamy, 86, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday ( July 15, 2008 ) while working in his yard.

God saw that he was very tired and that he needed rest, so he sent the angels for him as he needed the very best. When the angels got him home, they went through the pearly gates. All the angels stood and started singing, and Edley took his place as God said, “Welcome home my good and faithful servant.”

Edley was born in Scott County on Oct. 23, 1921 and worked at Tennessee Eastman for 43 years in the A.Y. and Spinning Department as foreman.

He was a member of Gate City I.O.O.F. Lodge #170. Edley was a Christian from an early age and was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church and Griggs Bible Class. Daddy loved gardening and taking his little dog for rides and walks.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elma Palmer Bellamy; his parents, Martha Kate Snapp Bellamy and Claude Lee Bellamy; brothers, Charles S. Bellamy and Donnie Lee Bellamy.

Surviving are his daughter, Nancy B. CHURCH HILL - Edna Lee Davidson Bellamy, 86, of 339 Burlington Drive, passed away Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Mrs. Bellamy was born in Dickenson County, Va., but had resided in Kingsport. She was a housewife and member of Cameron United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Bellamy (1986); and her parents, Roy L. and Margaret Ethel Bellamy Davidson.

Surviving are her daughters, Margaret Killen, Rossville, Ga., and Betty Eachen, Church Hill; son, William Lee Bellamy, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Tony Killen, Steve Killen, Pam Killen, Sue O'Shields, all of Georgia, and LeeAnn Eachen Broome, Church Hill; eight great-grandchildren; brother, James Robert "Bob" Davidson, Gate City, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

GATE CITY , Va. - Elma E. Palmer Bellamy, 78, flew out of our lives into the waiting arms of God Thursday ( Nov. 7, 2002 ) at 3:35 p.m. with her family by her side.

She was born in Wise County , Va. on Dec. 19, 1923 and was the daughter of the late A.J. and Lula Orender Palmer. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are her loving husband of 60 years, Edley H. Bellamy, of the home; daughter, Nancy B. Bacon, Gate City , Va. ; granddaughter and grandson, Tarita and Bucky Carter of Kingsport; brother, Hubert Palmer, Homasassa , Fla. ; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City , Va. , and anytime at the residence.

KINGSPORT - Edna Bays Bellamy , 80, entered into rest Saturday morning (Dec. 4, 1999) at the Brookside Health Center in Kingsport.

Mrs. Bellamy was born December 17, 1918 in Scott County, Va., a daughter of the late Flanders Martin Bays Sr. and Etta Kate Barker Bays. Mrs. Bellamy was a member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church in Morrison City, Tenn., where she served in many capacities within the church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women Organization and the Bell Ridge Ruritan Club.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two daughters, Wanda Rose Bellamy and Glenda Ruth Bellamy ; four brothers, Howard, Norville, Oliver and Mervin Bays.

Surviving are her husband, Lawrence M. Bellamy , Kingsport; five sisters, Mrs. Elsie Barker and Mrs. Joanne Starnes, both of Kingsport, Mrs. Ota Faust, Gate City, Mrs. Janelle Jayne, Hiltons, Va., and Mrs. Nora Lee Hayter, Ft. Born in Scott County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Charlie W. and Hester Hensley Johnson.

She was a homemaker and member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Morrison City.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Johnson, Ray Johnson; two sisters, Dora Campbell and Lena Snodgrass; and a grandson, Jessee Hensley III.

Surviving are her husband of over 51 years, George M. Bellamy; a daughter, Becky B. Bellamy; a son, Joey C. GATE CITY, Va. — Everette P. Bellamy, 70, of Gate City, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (Nov. 9, 2008) at Holston Manor Nursing Home, Kingsport.
He was born in Scott County (Gate City) and lived in Kingsport since 2000. He was a graduate of Shoemaker High School and served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1956-1959. He was retired from Eastman Chemical Corp. with over 30 years of service. Everette was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Carrie Steffey Bellamy; and a brother, Ralph Bellamy.
Survivors include his son, Pridemore Bellamy and wife, Tonya of Gate City; step-daughter, Kathy Sawyer and husband, Tim of Church Hill; two grandchildren, Devin Bellamy and Austin Gibson; the mother of his children, Janice Jennings of Gate City; two half-sisters, Brenda Marshall and husband, Tom of Church Hill, Barbara France and husband, Victor of New Smyrna, Fla.; half-brother, Fred Bellamy and wife, Sherry of Gate City; along with several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - George M. Bellamy, 76, passed away Monday (April 18, 2006) surrounded by his family.

Mr. Bellamy was born in Church Hill on Feb. 6, 1930 and was the son of the late Walter Samuel and Kate Huddle Bellamy. He lived and attended church in West Carter's Valley his entire life and helped build Greenvale Baptist Church.

Mr. Bellamy retired from Mead Paper after 31 years of service.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bellamy was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Eliza J. Bellamy; son-in-law, Larry Hensley; infant grandson, Jesse Hensley III; brothers, Ray and Thomas Bellamy; and sisters, Edith Click and baby Dora Ruth Bellamy.

He is survived by his daughter, Becky Hensley and partner Don Jackson, of Kingsport; son, Joey C. Bellamy and wife Nancy, of Mahomet, Ill.; grandchildren, Nathan Hensley of Kingsport, Jacob and Jessica Bellamy, of Mahomet, Ill., Jordon Swadley of Savannah, Ga., and Morgan Swadley, of Memphis, Tenn.; great-granddaughter, Telucia Hensley and sister, Maxine Powers, both of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

GATE CITY , Va. — Ila Grace (Hodges) Bellamy, 96, of the Yuma community, went to be with the Lord Monday, ( May 21, 2007 ) after an illness while at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center .
She was born Sunday, Jan. 29, 1911 , in Sullivan County a daughter of the late Robert G. and Fannie Coffman Hodges. She was a homemaker and a member of Prospect United Methodist Church where she was involved in the United Methodist Woman and also sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Yuma Senior Citizens Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Bellamy; six sisters, Georgia Hodges, Ruth Hodges, Cleo Lane, Fannie Ben Sandidge, Martha Kate Winegar and Leona Davis; two brothers, Edward Hodges and Clarence Hodges; and a great-granddaughter, Ila Shea Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Haynes and husband Bill, and Martha June McGee and husband, Wayne all of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Rusty Haynes, Ron Haynes and wife Carol, Scott McGee, Jennifer Smith and husband Chris, Amber Smith and husband, Jason; five great-grandchildren, Meghan McGee, McKensie McGee, Kalie Smith, Kevin Haynes and Eric Haynes; several nieces, nephews, cousins and others also survive.

CHURCH HILL - Isaac C. Bellamy Jr., 70, went home to be with his Lord and Savior late Sunday evening ( May 13, 2001 ) at his residence after a lengthy illness.

A lifelong resident of the Frisco Yard community, Mr. Bellamy retired from the Mead Corp. with over 38 years of service. He was a charter member of Calvary Lighthouse Baptist Church where he served as deacon of the church.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, who will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac (Clint) Bellamy Sr., and Lillie Wooten Bellamy.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 51 years, Carolyn McConnell Bellamy, of the home; three daughters, Betsy Smith and her husband, Rodney, Drema Hunter and her husband, Doug, and Amy Thacker and her husband, Doug, all of Church Hill; two sons, Ryland C. Bellamy and his wife, Judy, and Dennis G. He was a member of the Surgoinsville First United Methodist Church and was retired from the Tennessee Eastman Corp. after 35 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Neal W. and Cora L. Grim Bellamy; daughter-in-law, Nina Bellamy; grandson, Jonathan Bellamy; four sisters, Mary Louvena Harrell, Mollie Ethel Barton, Pearly May Looney and Viola Ellen Farmer; and six brothers, Edwin Gaines Bellamy, Kyle Clinton Bellamy, Frank James Bellamy, Ralph Wesley Bellamy and Robert Paul Bellamy.

She was born in Scott County , Va. , and had lived in Hawkins County most of her life.  She was a member of the Greenvale Baptist Church .  Her husband Walter died three years ago.

KINGSPORT - Lawrence Milburn Bellamy, 90, passed away Sunday (Nov. 20, 2005) at Wexford House.

He was a Bell Ridge Road resident for several years before going to Asbury Place at Kingsport and then to Wexford House.

He was born in Gate City, Va. on Nov. 19, 1915 and was the son of the late James A. Bellamy and Lillie Bell Williams Bellamy. Lawrence lived most of his life in Kingsport.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Edna Bays Bellamy in 1999; daughter, Glenda Bellamy in 1994; sisters, Kathleen Herron, Beatrice Bellamy, Hallie Bellamy, Rhoda Jones and Leota Lane.

Lawrence lived to have his 90th birthday on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005.

He was very active and faithful in his churches of which he was a member, first Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Hiltons, Va., and then moving his membership to Morrison's Chapel United Methodist Church, Kingsport.

He served both churches in many capacities, as Superintendent of Sunday School, Bible Teacher, Music Director, Holston Conference Lay Leader and delegate to the Holston Conference. Lawrence was a member of the Emmaus Walk Community.

He was a volunteer with the North Kingsport Volunteer Fire Department and the East Carter's Valley Ruritan Club.

Lawrence worked at Firestone Stores in Kingsport retiring after 30 years of service in 1977. He received many awards for his service to and for others; Ruritan Man of the Year, 1984 and Outstanding Service Award, 1989. He and his wife, Edna, were awarded for devoted service to Christianity from the Kingsport District United Methodist Adults.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II with distinguished honors for bravery and the capturing of Hitler's bodyguard. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3 and a member of the Kingsport Fraternal Order of Police.

KINGSPORT - Lucille Freeman Bellamy went to be with the Lord on Tuesday ( May 4, 2004 ) at Brookhaven Nursing Home where she had resided for the past several years.

Mrs. Bellamy was born in Speer's Ferry, Va., but spent most of her adult life in Kingsport .

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kemp Bellamy; her two sons, Jimmy and Johnny Bellamy; her parents, Jeff and Laura Freeman; two brothers, Kyle and Charles Freeman; her sisters, Mable Duncan, Bonnie Bray and Edna Marie Duncan.

Survivors include her son, Billy Bellamy; her grandson, Jimmy Wayne Bellamy and wife Elizabeth; her great-grandson, Jason Bellamy; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the chapel of Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport .

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today with the Rev. Doug Harris officiating.

GATE CITY, Va. - Lyle Edgar Bellamy Jr., 78, entered into rest Thursday (Aug. 29, 2002) at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Lyle Edgar Bellamy Sr. and Mae Lane Bellamy. Born in Scott County, Va., on October 28, 1923, he retired from Eastman Kodak in 1984 after 43 years of service in the Acid Division.

He was a member of the 557 AAA BN and the 84th Railsplitter Division of the U.S. Army serving in Europe in World War II.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bellamy was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Bellamy in 1983; great-grandson, Sterling Norton in 1992; a sister, Hazel Tutterrow; and a brother, Elmer Bellamy.

Surviving are a daughter, Ellen Bellamy Norton, Gate City, Va.; sister, Shirley Haynes, Coral Gables, Fla.; grandchild, Heather Norton, Kingsport; and a great-grandchild, Hunter Norton; a special close friend, Ron Adams; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Gate City Funeral Home.

GATE CITY, Va. - Mack Coy Bellamy, 72, passed away Tuesday (April 4, 2006) at his residence after an extended illness.

He was born in Scott County and had resided there all of his life. He was a member of the House of Refugee Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie P. and Alice Ervin Bellamy; sisters, Faye Templeton and Trula Williams; brothers, Robert (Syl) Bellamy and Herman H. Bellamy.

CHURCH HILL — Mary Geneva Dotson Bellamy, born Oct. 5, 1923, passed away at her home on Feb. 12, 2009 after a lengthy illness.

She was the daughter of the late Rev. Earl F. and Rose Horne Dotson of the Caney Ridge community in Dickenson County, Va.

Mrs. Bellamy was an executive secretary and retired from Grosset and Dunlap in Kingsport. She owned Bellamy Apartments and Mobile Home Estates in West Carters Valley. Mrs. Bellamy was a life-long member of Cedar View Independent Methodist Church and an active member of its Ladies’ Prayer Group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray P. Bellamy; infant son, Samuel Earl; brothers, Eugene and Emory Dotson; and a sister, Frances Bates.

Survivors include a son, Mark Steven Bellamy and daughter-in-law, Lydia Sutherland of Church Hill; grandchildren Ross and Taylor Sutherland; and brother, Henry F. Dotson of Mansfield, Ohio.

Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Highway 11W, Church Hill.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Large and the Rev. Jim Fields officiating.

Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

MOUNT CARMEL — Mary Mildred Tickle Bellamy, 92, of Mount Carmel, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 13, 2008 at Holston Manor.

Mrs. Bellamy was a member of Cloud’s Bend Methodist Church. She loved crafts, painting, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Bellamy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anne C. Tickle; one son, Kenneth Hurd; one granddaughter, Karen L. Hurd; three sisters, Pauline Howard, Lola Mae Brown and Katherine Churchwell; and one brother, Elmer (Bud) Tickle.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Walter Bellamy; a daughter-in-law Norma J. Hurd; two sisters-in-law, Daphne Linville and Geraldine Gray; two grandchildren, Jay Miller and wife, Debbie and Kevin Hurd and wife, Cissi; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Chris Miller and Charlsie and Chase Hurd; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Bellamy was born in Scott County, Va., and had been a resident of Church Hill most of her life.

Mrs. Bellamy was of the Baptist faith. She was a most loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard T. Bellamy; brothers, sisters and parents.

KINGSPORT - Mildred Rowena Bellamy, 82, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday (June 12, 2005) at Sunbridge Hillside Manor after a period of declining health.

Miss Bellamy was born in Scott County, Va., on March 16, 1923 to the late William H. and Eliza Spivey Bellamy. She was a resident of Kingsport since 1936 and had been a member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church since 1944.

Mildred attended Hiwasee College and graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1959. She was employed for 29 years by the Board of Missions of the Holston Methodist Conference of Churches. Her first appointment was the Big Stone Gap District. Her second appointment was in Sevier County in the Maryville District. Her third appointment was in Grayson County in the Wytheville District. In 1969, she received the Town and County Award from the Holston Methodist Conference. She was honored by receiving many other certificates during her career. She retired in March of 1988.

In addition to her parents, She was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Carl and Herbert Bellamy; and four sisters, Lakie Peters, Minnie Pendleton, Fannie Davidson and Dorothy Ketron.

Surviving are one brother, Walter G. Bellamy of Mount Carmel; and four sisters, Zella Manier of Johnson City, Daphne Linville of Erwin, Geraldine Gray of Kingsport, and Vilas Sykes and husband Harry of Gray; many nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Sharon Starnes, who was her caregiver.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Homer Roller officiating.

Paul M. Bellamy, age 74, of Bristol, TN went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2011 at his residence. He was born July 10, 1936 , a son of the late W.H. Bellamy and Mary Robinette Bellamy. He had lived in the Bristol area for the past fifty-two years and had previously worked for Pet Dairy, Bristol Steel, and was retired from Consolidated Freight. He was a member of the Teamsters Union . Paul was a member of New Grace Baptist Church . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Junior Bellamy, and by sisters Parthenia Clay, Estelle Cook, and Kive Salyers.

She was a lifelong resident of Scott County. Pauline was a devoted homemaker. She was a Born Again Christian and attended Cameron United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Bellamy; her parents, Bill and Ada Bellamy Sandidge; sister, Mary Winegar along with her infant sister, Arbuta Sandidge; her brother, Tom Sandidge.

Ray Paul Bellamy, 69, Route 3, West Carters Valley Road, Church Hill, died at 5 p.m. Thursday (April 23, 1992) at his residence.

Born in Hawkins County, he was a member of Cedar View Independent Methodist Church.

He was a member of Kingsport Masonic Lodge No. 688, was a Shriner, a member of Sullivan County Scottish Rite and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Bellamy was employed by Tennessee Eastman Company for 40 years in the research department and was owner of Bellamy Apartments and Bellamy Mobile Home Estates.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter S. and Kate Huddle Bellamy; a sister, Edith Bellamy Click and an infant son, Samuel Earl Bellamy.

Walter S. Bellamy, 78, of Route 3, Church Hill ( West Carters Valley ) was pronounced dead at Holston Valley Community Hospital Sunday [ Sept 7, 1969 ] at 11:30 a.m.    He had suffered an apparent heart attack while attending church at Greenvale Baptist Church .  Born in Scott County he had made his home in the West Carters Valley area all of his adult life, and was a well known farmer.  Bellamy was employed by the Kingsport Power Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1953.

Survived by his wife, Mrs. Kate Huddle Bellamy of the home; one  daughter, Mrs. Edith Click of Church Hill; one foster daughter, Mrs. Maxine Powers of Kingsport; three sons, Thomas and Ray, both of Kingsport, and George of Church Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Sandidge and Mrs. Bessie Sandidge, both of Gate City, Route 3; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Greenvale Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Campbell, Rev. W. L. Kell and Rev. He was born in Church Hill but had resided in the Kingsport area most of his life. Mr. Bellamy was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from Eastman Kodak in 1979 after 38 years of service from the Tenite Division, was a member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW including the Color Guard, and a member of Fort Robinson Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter and Kate Bellamy; a sister, Edith Bellamy Click; a brother, Ray Bellamy; and an infant sister, Dora Ruth Bellamy.

Virgil E. Bellamy, 87, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and had retired from Tennessee Eastman following 39 years of service. Virgil was a staff sergeant in the United States Army having served during World War II. He was a member of Ross Campground United Methodist Church. Virgil and his wife, Lyndall Chase Bellamy, were married on June 7, 1947 in First Baptist Church of Johnson City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Virgil is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lyndall Chase Bellamy of Kingsport, and son, Charles Bellamy and wife, Vickie of Knoxville.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 3 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. David Neel officiating and military graveside rites by American Legion Posts 3/265.

Luther Gardner Bennett, a longtime resident of Lodi, passed away in Sacramento on February 11, 2010, at the age of 85.

Mr. Bennett was born in Derby, Virginia to Martin Luther and Alta Mae (McClellan) Bennett on March 23, 1924. He graduated from Science Hill High, as a member of the National Honor Society.

He served in the United States Air Force from January of 1943, until October of 1947, honorably discharged with the rank of a Captain. He was a B-17 pilot, having flown thirty-five missions over Europe during World War II. He earned four Air Medals, The Distinguished Flying Cross, and Victory Medal, American Theatre and European Theatre.

He was a sheet metal worker, air conditioning service engineer from 1950 until 1986, and he was a member of the Refrigeration Services Engineers Society. Mr. Bennett also served as the American Legion Post #22 Commander in Lodi. He resided in San Joaquin County from 1947, until July of 2000. At this time he moved to Sacramento, CA.

He is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Cora Bennett of Sacramento; daughter, Joanne Gregory of Fresno; son, William (Gayle) Bennett of Stockton; two step-daughters, Linda (Doug) Hill of Elk Grove and Patricia (Jorge) Villarreal of Lancaster; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; niece Mary Jo (Gary) Arthur of Granada Hills; nephew, Wayne (Janice ) Bennett of Lompoc.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Pearl Bennett; brother, William H. Bennett; and step-daughter, Bernice Garza.

Friends are invited to visit Saturday, February 20, from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held on Sunday, February 21, at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with Pastor Keith Jacobson of Carmichael Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating.

Committal will immediately follow in the Sierra View Mausoleum at Cherokee Memorial Park.

Gate City— Spl— Mrs. Clara Nash Benton, widow of the late Robert H. Benton, died at her home in the Red Hill community near Gate City at 4:45 p. m. Monday.

Her parents were the late William H. and Emma Allen Nash, pioneer family of Scott County. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Her survivors include two sisters; Mrs. C. F. Quillen and Mrs. Daniel France of Gate City, six brothers; Mack Nash of Kingsport, Victor Nash of Fort Blackmore, Arthur and Gus Nash of Gate City, Willard and Ray Nash of Indianapolis and Kyle Nash of Chicago.

Funeral services are expected to be held Wednesday in her home with Rev. R. W. Dillon and Rev. Herman Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Benton Cemetery.

HILTONS, Va. — Dylan Reece Benton, 49, of Hiltons, Va., passed away Friday (June 12, 2009) following an apparent boating accident.

Mr. Benton was a native of Church Hill and had lived in Hilton, Va. since 1991. He was employed by Long’s Drilling Company as a heavy equipment operator. He was a 1978 graduate of Church Hill High School and was a member of the McPheeters Bend Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Sid and Violet Hensley and Barlow and Lillian Benton.

Survivors include his fiancee, Linda Hurd of Kingsport, parents, Hale and Margie Benton of Church Hill; sisters, Renita Mabe and husband, Gary of Church Hill, Jerree Fields of Kingsport, Camilla Davis and husband, Joel of Church Hill; nieces, Ashley Dillon Mabe of Johnson City, Brittany Dillender and husband, Sam of California; nephew, Briar Davis of Church Hill; and great nephew, Ayden Dillender of California; special friends, Travis Jackson, Chuck Morgan, Brian Neeley and Mike Crawford. KINGSPORT — Karletta Leigh Benton, 40, went to be with the Lord, on Saturday (Aug. 30, 2008) at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Kingsport, on Jan. 25, 1968 and for the past 25 years, she has been disabled from an automobile accident. She was an honor roll student and a graduate of Central High School and was a member of the Parkway Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents, Willie L. Benton, Jr. and Charlotte I. Bise Benton; sisters, Melita Benton Lee and husband, Steven, Nicoletta Benton-Cooper and husband, Waylon; grandmother, Maxie Bise; niece, Alexandria Ayala; three nephews, Zachary Lee, Derek Lee, Nathanial Cooper; special aunts and uncles, Fred and Deliah Dishner, Keith and Colleen Grimm of Gate City, Va., Virginia Johnson of Tennessee Ridge, Tenn., Dale and Linda Benton of Blountville; special friends, Theresa (Sam) Gura and Matthew and many loving friends.

BLOUNTVILLE — Louise Benton, 83, of Greystone Health Care, went to be with Lord on Saturday (Jan. 17, 2009) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born March 26, 1925, in Scott County, Va., but had resided in Blountville since 1957. She was the daughter of the late W.H. and Jenny Wright. She was of the Baptist faith and had been ministered by Beulah Baptist Church in Kingsport. She was a lifelong homemaker, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Benton, in 2000.
She is survived by four sons, Linville Benton and wife, Peggy, Blountville, Jimmie Benton and wife, Bandi, Abilene, Tex., Bill Benton and wife, Patsy, Blountville and Ronnie Benton, Piney Flats; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Benton and wife, Carolyn, Blountville, Billy Benton and wife, Natalie, Blountville, Jesse Benton, Blountville and Britni Mains and husband, J. GATE CITY, Va., May 7 -- Mrs Mahala E. Benton, 74, wife of William Benton and one of Scott County's most active church workers, died suddenly at her home in the Red Hill section near here early tonight [5/7/1938].

Her death was attributed to paralysis.

She was a daughter of George and Rebecca Quillin McClellan and widely connected with leading Scott County families.

Funeral services will be held Monday at the Red Hill Southern Methodist Church of which she was a member with the pastor Rev. J. E. Graham in charge.  Burial will be held in the family cemetery.

GATE CITY -- Rader Earnest Benton, 54, of West Jackson Street, died at Holston Valley Community Hospital at 2 p.m. Saturday [12/11/1965] after a lengthy illness.

He was a native of Scott County and a retired employee of the spinning department of Tennessee Eastman Co.  Benton was a member of the West View Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruth Benton; daughters, Mrs. Robert Lee Hall of Mount Clemens, Mich., and Mrs. Raymond Mead of Weber City; a son, James Monroe Benton, Gate City; sisters, Mrs. Nannie McClellan, Mrs. Dow Lane and Mrs. Nell Phillippi, all of Gate City; brothers, Kelly and Bob, Gate City; W. T. (Bill) of Kingsport, and C. R. (Jake) Benton of Melbourne, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Gate City First Baptist Church.  Rev. Gerald Price, Rev. Lester Smith and Rev. Bob Lynch will officiate.  Burial will be in Holston View Cemetery.

The body will be taken from the Gate City Funeral Home to the church one hour before the service.

Raymond C. (Jake) Benton, 49, formerly of Gate City, died in Melbourne, Fla. at 1:30 p.m. Sunday [2/28/1971] after a brief illness. He was born in Scott County, and was formerly affiliated with Jake's Cab Company in Gate City. He served in World War II.

He is survived by sons, Raymond Allan (Butch) and Thomas Roy (Tommy) both of Melbourne; sisters, Mrs. Nannie McClellan, Mrs. Mary Lane, Mrs. Nell Phillippi, all of Gate City; and brother, Kelly Benton, Gate City.

Gate City, Va. -- Funeral for R. H. Benton Sr., 71, farmer and livestock grower, and a member of the Methodist church of the Red Hill community, will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Red Hill church with burial in the nearby family cemetery.  Nephews and nieces will serve as pallbearers and flower bearers.  The Rev. Enos Wagner, pastor, will officiate.

Mr. Benton was a native of this county and a life long resident.  He served for four terms as Justice of the Peace in Estilville Magisterial district, and was active in community and church affairs.

His father was the late Robert Carter Benton and his mother before her marriage was Mary Pierson.  Both families were early settlers in this county.

Surviving are his wife, Clara Nash Benton; four brothers, Thomas Z. Benton, J. W. Benton, Henry B. Benton, and George Benton, all of Gate City.

She was born Feb. 26, 1912. She served the U.S. Government in the Selective Service Department for 27 years. She also worked with Mountain Empire Older Citizens for seven years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Martha Dickerson Seymore; her husband, Rader E. Benton; granddaughters, Martha Ann Hall and Lisa Kay Hall.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Kay Hall, Kingsport, Ann and Raymond Meade, Gate City, VA.; her son, Jim Benton, Gate City, VA.; eight grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Grace Covenant Church, 2001 American Way, Kingsport, Tenn. with Dr. J. Edward Clevinger officiating.

GATE CITY, Va. — Willie Leland Benton, 91, of Blountville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (April 5, 2008) at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.

He was born in Scott County, Va. (Midway) and moved to Mansfield, Ohio in 1954 living there until he moved back locally to make his home with his son, Dale in 2003. Willie was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II and retired from A.K. Steel with over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Church of God in Mansfield, Ohio.

Willie was preceded in death by his wife, Tillie Beer Benton in 2003; his parents, James B. and Ellie Kendrick Benton; two sisters, Mary Ellen Vicars and Nyla Sullivan; and two brothers, Herbert Benton and Cascal Benton.

Survivors include his three daughters, Delilah Dishner and husband, Fred of Bristol, Tenn., Coleen Grimm and husband, Keith of Gate City, Va. and Jenny Johnson of Tennessee Ridge, Tenn.; two sons, Dale Benton and wife, Linda of Blountville and Willie Benton, Jr. and wife, Charlotte of Bristol, Tenn.; along with 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great- grandchildren.

DUFFIELD, Va. — Barbara Jo Berry, 55, of Duffield, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday (Dec. 20, 2008).
She was the daughter of Dudley and Ruth Bledsoe. She was born on Oct. 3, 1953. Barbara was a member of Burke’s Union Primitive Baptist Church. She loved to help anyone that she could. She loved cross stitch needle work and was an avid quilter.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Weatherly Bledsoe; and one sister, Opal Mae.
She is survived by her loving husband, "Johnny" Roy Lee Berry of the home; one son, Jonathan Berry of Carters Valley; a special grandson, Ryan Berry; her father, Dudley Bledsoe of the home; four brothers, H.C. CLINCHPORT, Va. - Mrs. Lillian Gertrude Berry , 84, Route 4, entered into rest Wednesday ( June 14, 2000 ) at her residence. Mrs. Berry was born in Scott County, Va. on Nov. 30, 1915, a daughter of the late Frank and Martha Baldwin Hunley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Hagan Berry ; one son, Troy Rhoton; four sisters and four brothers.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Chafin, Castlewood, Va., Mary and Donald Taylor, Clinchport, Va., and Julie and Patton Quillen, Rye Cove, Va.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Wanda Berry , Mt. Carmel, William Eli Berry , Clinchport, Va., and Worley Cecil Berry and Kay Street, Sulphur Springs, Tenn.; one sister, Laura Darnell, Warrenton, Va.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Hunley officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday at Dingus Cemetery , Rye Cove, Va. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will be meeting at the cemetery for the graveside services.

BRUSH PRAIRIE, Wash. - Mack Henderson Berry, 56, died Wednesday (Jan. 27, 1999) at his residence.

Born Feb. 12, 1942 in Scott County, Va., he was the son of the late Worley Berry.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Lee Smith and Thelma Hammons.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Fisher Berry, Brush Prairie, Wash.; a daughter, Trinia Hunter, Brush Prairie, Wash.; three sons, Michael Berry, Atlanta, Ga., Keith and Kelvin Berry, both of Brush Prairie, Wash.; seven grandchildren; his mother, Gladys Adams Berry Pridemors, Duffield, Va.; five sisters, Wanda Jean Adams, Blackwater, Va., Etta Clark, Dryden, Va., Helen Calhoun and Martha Laney, both of Duffield, Va.; four brothers, Howard Berry , Duffield, Va., Vernon Adams, Hansen, Idaho, Sam Berry, Culpeper, Va., and Tom Berry, Indianapolis, Ind.

KINGSPORT - Mary Ruth Gibson Berry passed away at her residence on Tuesday (Jan. 18, 2005) with her loving family at her side.

She was born July 24, 1924 and lived in the Fairview community of Scott County, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett Berry (1984); son, Ralph Lynn Berry (1999); three stepsons, Floyd "Cody," Ed and Bob Berry; a great-granddaughter, Alejandra Roberts; her parents, John and Rose Tomlison Gibson; four brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include seven daughters, Shirley Doss of Oklahoma, Bessie Berry of Clinchport, Mae B. Taylor of Clinchport, Dollie Gilliam and husband, Claude of Clinchport, Della Adams of Gate City, Rose Edwards of Blackwater, and Bonnie Calton of Weber City; two sons, Charles Berry and wife Ruby of Jonesville, and Johnny Berry and wife Barbara of Clinchport; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Berry of Blackwater; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Holston Valley Medical Center and to Lisa and Jane with Wellmont Hospice for the loving care they gave to Mrs. Berry during her illness.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Neeley, the Rev. Roger Trent, and the Rev. Bazil Maness officiating.

Music will be provided by Gary Hunley.

Graveside services will be conducted in the Berry Family Cemetery in Clinchport immediately following the funeral service. Family and friends will travel together in procession to the graveside.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Leota R. Beverly, 86, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Oreton, Lee County, Va., a daughter of the late William Robert and Rebecca Mae Miles Peters, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Emeral Beverly; a son, Emeral Lee Beverly; sisters, Delena Peters, Alberta Skeens and Artence Lynch; and a brother, William R. Peters. She had lived in Bristol over 50 years and was a member of North Bristol Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Rodney Allen Beverly and his wife Donna of Bristol, Bill L. Beverly and his wife Kathyren of Bristol and Dan D. Beverly and his wife Wissy of Knoxville; three sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Ferl) Glenn of Bristol and Mrs. C.L. (Thelma) Kilgore and Mrs. Robert (Marion) O’Dell, both of Coeburn; a granddaughter, Sara N. KINGSPORT — Mary Etta Bevins, 89, Kingsport , went to be with the Lord on Monday ( March 17, 2008 ) at Indian Path Medical Center .

She was born in Rye Cove, Va. , on Aug. 15, 1918 . She graduated from Rye Cove Memorial High School . She married Huey Lee Bevins on Sept. 16, 1939 and moved to Kingsport in 1940. They were married for 41 years before his death. She was a charter member of Lynn Garden Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Clara E. Hill and A.C. Flanary; her step-father, Ben Carter; two sisters, Nannie Culbertson (Warner) and Georgia Taylor ( Milo ); and one son-in-law, Virgil R. Smith.

CHURCH HILL — Ronnie L. Bible, age 55, passed away early Thursday morning ( Jan. 31, 2008 ) while at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 1, 1953 , in Roanoke , Va. , a son of Virginia Edmunds Bible and the late Ralph E. Bible, Jr. He was a 1971 graduate of Sullivan Central High School and attended Northeast State Community College . He was a drummer for the Kingsport group “Up with people” and also played in several small county bands. He attended the Episcopal churches most of his life and was a current member of Prospect United Methodist Church .

He is survived by his wife, Melody Shipley of the home; mother, Virginia E. Bible of Gray; one sister, Susan N. Bible of Johnson City; one brother, Ralph E. Bible III. and wife Dawn of Bristol, Tenn.; one aunt, Jean B. Smith of Iowa; mother in law, Lochie “Bug” Shipley of the Yuma community; two nieces, Molly Bible and Sara Bible; two nephews, Mark Bible and Eric Bible; several cousins a host of friends and several pets.

At his request, the body will be cremated.

Calling hours will be Sunday ( Feb. 3, 2008 ) from 1 to 3 p.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church .

The memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Rev. Allen Karnes will officiate and his brother, Ralph will provide a eulogy.

KINGSPORT — Phyllis Joy Biggs, 67, of Kingsport, went to meet her savior on Wednesday (Dec. 17, 2008) at her residence following a long illness.

Born on Jan. 27, 1941, in Castlewood, Va., to Clarence and Nancy Biggs, Phyllis had spent her early years in Nickelsville, before moving to Kingsport. She was saved in her youth, an admirer of Billy Graham and belonged to First Baptist Church of Nickelsville.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cecile Long; her grandson, Phil Grimsley; her father, Clarence Biggs.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Kathy Grimsley, of Kingsport and Leona Long, of Knoxville; her son, Rick Long and wife Jennifer, of Jonesborough; her mother, Nancy Biggs, of Kingsport; one grandson; four granddaughters; two sisters, Flo Cookenour, of Gray and Valerie Biggs, of Kingsport; two aunts, Ida Barkeloo, of Ohio and Ruby Head, of Michigan; along with a host of cousins and friends.

Bobby W. Bingham, 49, 3386 Horseshoe Drive, Kingsport, died Saturday morning (Feb. 10, 1996) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Sullivan County, he was a Vietnam veteran and a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.  He had been employed for the past 26 years with the Eastman Chemical Company, C&E division.  He was a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge No. 688, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite of the Jericho Temple.  He was a member of Lawson Memorial Church.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Annie Bingham and maternal grandparents, Leslie and Stella Marshall.

Surviving are his wife, Judy T. Bingham, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Bob (Amy Renee) Barton, Kingsport; his parents, James E. and Hazel M. Bingham, Kingsport; two nieces and one nephew.

BRISTOL, Tenn. — Maxie Z. Bise, 88, formerly of Weber City, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2009) at her daughter’s residence.

She was born in Sullivan County and lived the majority of her life in Scott County, Va. Maxie was a member of Sally’s Chapel Baptist Church for over 50 years. She truly loved the Lord and was an avid prayer warrior.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bise; a special granddaughter, Karletta Benton; her parents, Claude and Annie Martin; her sister, Dora M. Alley; brothers, Homer Gilliam and Charlie Martin.

KINGSPORT - Annie Campbell Bishop, 76, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Friday ( April 12, 2002 ) at her home after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Annie was born April 7, 1926 in Scott County, Va., a daughter of the late Charlie and Ella (Murphy) Campbell. She was the widow of the late John J. Bishop.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bruce, Claude and William Campbell; and her sisters, Mary Puckett, Ruth Pleasant, Alice Phillips and Gladys Gillespie.

She was a member of the Bloomingdale Baptist Church for over 40 years and was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School class.

She retired from Holston Valley Medical Center .

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cyndy and Larry Garland of Kingsport; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Karen Bishop of Kingsport; a grandson, Travis Scott Garland; a granddaughter, Kristy Nicole Bishop; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rhea and Jim Moore, Carrie and Chuck VanNorstrand, all of Fort Myers, Fla., Evelyn and Gene Hughes, both of Kingsport; brother and sister-in-law, Kyle and Inez Campbell, Fall Branch; several nieces and nephews; special neighbors, Fred and Emma Lou Lynn.

TICKFAW, La. — Barbara Ann Bishop, 61, born in Sullivan County, passed away at her residence in Tickfaw, La. on Saturday (April 11, 2009).

She was a member of Tickfaw Baptist Church and a retiree from the federal government, having worked for 25 years for the Pentagon as a computer programmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Lois-Hicks Bishop.

She is survived by three sisters, Rachel Cadoret and husband, Archie, Betty Jean Willoughby and Louise Anthony; two nieces, Lori Willoughby and Debie Willoughby; four nephews and their spouses, Donald and Rebecca-Bankston Willoughby, Mark and Eileen-Martinez Willoughby, Dale and Wendy-Hast Anthony and Justin and Amber-Leblanc Anthony. Barbara is also survived by numerous adoring great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 3 p.m. with visitation beginning at 12 noon.

Interment will follow in Walnut Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

GATE CITY, Va. - Mrs. Cora Fields Bishop, 89, passed away at her residence Friday (Feb. 15, 2002) after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Bishop was born in Scott County, Va., on March 31, 1912, a daughter of the late Clint Fields and Francis Harvey Fields. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Judge F. Bishop in 1963; one daughter, Bernice B. McDavid; one infant son; four sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her daughter, Louise Bishop Norrod, Gate City; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Danny and Marcella Norrod, Larry and Brenda Norrod and Paul David and Dorothy Norrod; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Karen and Bob Clark and Debbie and Curtis Phipps; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Gladys Fields, Weber City, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Gate City Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Fields officiating.

David and Debbie Easterling will provide the music.

KINGSPORT - Donna Godsey Bishop, 38, Kingsport, passed away unexpectedly Friday ( May 14, 2004 ) at Cleveland Community Hospital , Cleveland , Tenn. , where she went to be with the Lord.

Born and raised in Sullivan County , she had lived the last 10 years of her life in Cleveland , Tenn. She was a loving sister and was loved by all who knew her.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Steve and Wanda Godsey; two aunts, Mabel Murray and Betty Robinson; an uncle, Claude Robinson; and a cousin, Sheila Fields.

Surviving are two daughters, Madison Hill of Church Hill and Morgan DeSpain of Cleveland, Tenn.; one son, David Johns of Mount Carmel; three sisters, Pam Joyner and husband, Tony, of Mount Carmel, Sabrina Peters and husband, Jeff, and Cheryl Hill and husband, Greg, both of Church Hill; two brothers, Steve Godsey III of Church Hill and Stacy Godsey of Cleveland, Tenn.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport , with Pastor Layton Bentley officiating.

Burial will follow at Mullins Cemetery in Kingsport .

Ed Bishop , 230 Sherry Drive, Kingsport, died Friday (June 5, 1998) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Appalachia, Va., he had been a resident of Kingsport for the last 31 years. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1978 after 38 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Argie Lou Christian Bishop ; his stepfather, George Cradic; a sister, Geraldine Beckner; and two brothers, Albert and Elmer Bishop .

Surviving are his wife, Bennie Pendleton Bishop , Kingsport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bernice and Conor McCracken, Church Hill, and Brenda and James Heck, Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Penny Tomlinson, Brent McCracken and Jamie Heck; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. B.D. GREENVILLE, S.C. — Ernest Edward Bishop (Pop), age 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed peacefully and gently into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at St. Francis Hospital with his family by his side, after a short battle with lung cancer.

He was born Nov. 18, 1930 in Rye Cove, Va. to the late Essie and Elizabeth (Lizze Hunter) Bishop. He was reared and lived in Kingsport before moving his family to Greenville , S.C. in 1976.

He served in the U.S. Army (1951-52). He worked at J. P. Stevens in Kingsport and retired from Bibb Co. on White Horse Road in Greenville .

He was a born again Christian and a faithful servant to Our Lord. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, Assistant Sunday School teacher and choir member.

He loved going on trips with Joy in Unity and Ups and being with and serving with his beloved Pastor Earl Green who considered Ernest his right hand man.

In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Bishop; two infant grandsons, Payton and Daniel Bishop; brother-in-law Bud Gobble; and his father and mother-in-law, Garland and Margaret Carter.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife of 56 years, the former Arlene Carter; three precious sons and their spouses, Terry, of the home, Leonard (Kim) and Tim (Tami), all of Easley, S.C.; a special needs brother-in-law, Ronnie Carter of the home whom he loved and treated as a son; two wonderful grandchildren, Paul and Cody Bishop; two wonderful step-grandchildren, Sloan and Corey Burdick of Easley; brothers, Donnie (Mary), Dennis (Wanda) and Steve, all of Kingsport, and Hal of Cookville, Tenn.; sisters, Marie Gobble of Richmond, Ind., Barbara Ramey (Conley), Loretta Hurt (Glen), Joan Johnson (Ralph), all of Kingsport, and Cathy Brookover (Richard) of Deltona, Fla.

The family will receive friends on Sunday ( June 28, 2009 ) at Unity Baptist Church , 12 Piney Road , Greenville , S.C. , from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The funeral will immediately follow with Pastor Earl Green officiating.

Graveside services will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd., Kingsport at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, (June 30, 2009).

Ethel Lucille Bishop, age 85, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Brian Center in Weber City. Born in Scott County, VA on May 13, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Loyd "Chug" Arnold and Trula Bradshaw Arnold. She was also preceded in death by her husband Billy H. Bishop; her son, Danny Bishop and her brothers, Ray, Emory, Buck and Grady Arnold. Ethel was very proud of her family and was well known for her love of cooking, especially her home made pies for which she had won many ribbons at the local fairs. Survivors include her daughter Donna Sanders and husband Robert of Forest, VA; her sons, Grayling Bishop and wife Beth of Jonesboro, TN and David Bishop of Rye Cove, VA; her daughters-in-law, Debbie Bishop and Lisa Bishop; a brother, Curt Arnold of Gate City, VA; grandchildren Chris Bishop and wife Jessica of Mt. Gate City, VA – Gerald Neal Bishop, 63, of Gate City, VA passed away Friday morning, August 24, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Bishop was born December 20, 1948, in Kingsport, TN, the son of Wallace Clifford Bishop and the late Axley Charlene Bishop. During his lifetime, he worked at several jobs, including his last employment as a coal miner. Mr. Bishop was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church (Kingsport, TN). GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Gary E. Bishop, 49, 303 Cedar Ave., Gaithersburg, Md., went home to be with his earthly father and his heavenly father Saturday (April 18, 2009) at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md.

A lifelong resident of Maryland, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Christian.

He was preceded in death by his father, Corbin Bishop, who passed away on Sept. 22, 2001.

Survivors include his mother, Velma Lois Bishop of Gaithersburg, Md.; aunt, Jean (Bobby) Cox, of Germantown, Md.; uncle, Harold (Partha) Maness of Gray; numerous cousins to include two special cousins, Brandy Danielle Wissinger of Maryland and Wilma Jean Davis of Kingsport. He leaves behind his special pet, German Shepherd, Max.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday with funeral services being conducted at 2 p.m. in the Tri-Cities Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.

CHURCH HILL - James Harry Bishop, 80, 166 Grandview Road, died Friday (June 22, 2001) at his residence.

He was born in Pocahontas, Va., and lived in Clinchport, Va., before moving to Church Hill.

He was a carpenter and a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Wells Bishop.

WEBER CITY, Va. - James Kenneth Bishop, 83, formerly of Clinchport, Va., entered into rest on Friday (April 20, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Bishop was born February 22, 1918 in Scott County, Va. He was a son of the late William Hansford and Dora Miller Bishop.

He was of the Methodist faith and attended Ewing Chapel Church. He was a chief operator at Holston Defense Corporation and retired after 32 years of service.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Lou Belle Mullins Bishop, in 1980; two brothers, Herbert and Dewey Bishop; son-in-law, Bud Powers; and grandchild, Steven Powers.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Quillen Bishop, Gate City, Va.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Mary Bishop, Weber City, Eddie and Lynn Bishop, and Michael Bishop, all of Kingsport; four daughters and sons-in-law, Ernestine Powers, Janelle and Paul Lane, all of Gate City, Va., Beverly and John L. KINGSPORT — James R. Bishop, 71, of Kingsport, passed away on Thursday ( Oct. 16, 2008 ) at the Asbury Place at Kingsport following a lengthy illness.
Born in Neon, Ky. , James had lived in Kingsport for most of his life. He was retired, following 40 years of service from AFG where he worked as a production planner. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
James was preceded in death by his son, Barry Bishop; parents, John and Dorothy Wright Bishop; sister, Judith Ann Boswell.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Thomas Bishop, Kingsport; daughter, Kimberly Pierce and husband, Loren, Gray; very special granddaughter, Erika Pierce, Gray; brother, Tommy Bishop and wife, Becky, Kingsport; several nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his foster mother, Lizzie Bishop; and his brother, Kelly Lonnie Bishop.

BLACKWATER, Va. — Jerry Lee Bishop, 61, went home to be with God in the early morning of Thursday (March 19, 2009) at his home.

Jerry was born on Dec. 31, 1947 and was a lifelong resident of Blackwater, Va. He retired from VDOT as an area superintendent at the Pattonsville area headquarters where he had given 34 years of service.

Jerry served as a deacon at Osborne’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Blackwater where he was a member. He also attended Blackwater Lick (Big Door) Primitive Baptist Church. He was a member of McPherson Masonic Lodge #99 and was serving as a District Deputy Grand Master in the Grand Lodge of Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bishop; mother, Ella Scott Bishop, both of Blackwater.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Connie Bowen Bishop; one son, Jason N. Bishop; one daughter-in- law, Melissa K. Bishop; one aunt, Jeannie Tankersley of Sneedville; several cousins and a whole host of dear friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Robinette Funeral Home in Blackwater, Va. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Elder Jim Emory, Elder Daniel Hurd and Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.

Music will be provided by the the Rev. Glen Hurd and the Garry Hood Singers.

Burial will follow at Willis Family Cemetery in Blackwater.

She was a native of Scott County , a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Bishop loved to hunt and fish.

GATE CITY, Va. - Lucille Whited Bishop, 83, Snowflake community, went to be with Lord at 12:35 p.m. Monday (Sept. 30, 2002) at the Wexford House Nursing Home, Kingsport.

Lucille was a member of Ewing Chapel United Methodist Church, Snowflake, Va., and a homemaker.

She was born in March 7, 1919 to the late Newton D. Whited and Elizabeth Quillin Whited.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George B. Quillen; also her second husband, James Kenneth Bishop; brother, James Whited; an infant brother; and three sisters, Mona Lee Addington, Edith Daugherty and Nina Fleenor.

She is survived by a brother, Newton D. Whited Jr., Kingsport; sister, LaVerta Fugate, Roswell, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home or anytime at the residence in the Snowflake community.

OLD FORT, Tenn. — Margie Marie Bishop, 74, of Old Fort, Tenn., died Friday (April 18, 2008) at her son Dennis’s residence in Chattanooga.

A native of Ft. Blackmore, Va. and resident of Chattanooga for 40 years, she was a daughter of the late Thurman and Annie Eliza Gibson Castle. She was of the Pentecostal faith, and was preceded in death by two grandsons, Michael Bishop and Kenneth Thomas; and one sister, Willie Sexton.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Dana and Barry Anderson of Spencer, Iowa and Kathy Bishop of Old Fort; five sons and four daughters-in-law, James and Becky Bishop of Riceville, Dennis and Stacey Bishop of Chattanooga, Terry and Gayle Bishop of Gale City, Va., Delmer and Deborah Bishop of Chattanooga and David Bishop of Graysville; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bernice Quillen of Midway, Va., Juanita and Hasque Sexton of Ft. Mary Hill Bishop, 61, of 2924 Ft. Henry Dr. , died at 3:10 p.m. Saturday [ 2/25/1977 ] at Holston Valley Community Hospital . She was a Mabe, Va. native and had lived here for 25 years. She was a former employee of the Kingsport Laundry and attended the Baptist church.

KINGSPORT - Pearlie Bishop, 94, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord at The Wexford House on Friday (Oct. 15, 2004) after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Bishop was born in Pocahontas, Va., and had resided in the Kingsport area for over 70 years. She was a member of Bushong Chapel Apostolic Church. She retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1967 after 25 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Bishop; parents, L.C. and Laura Gilliam Bishop; two sons, John Bishop Jr. and A.D. Bishop; five sisters, Jannie Ramsey, Della Bentley, Emma Barney, Venus Kerns and Georgia Tipton; two brothers, James Harry, and Houston Bishop.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Quillen and husband Wayne of Kingsport, and Laura Elizabeth Sensabaugh, also of Kingsport; one son, Charles L. Bishop and wife Billie Jo of Kingsport; 12 grandchildren, Michael Quillen, Michelle Perry, Pat Goodwin, Kim Phillips, Cindy Garland, Rickey, Randy, Debbie, Tony, Rhonda and Brad Bishop, and Mandy Anderson; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Scott County , Va. , he had lived in the Kingsport area most of his life. He was a fore­man for Tennessee Eastman Co. in the dope department, retiring in 1965 after 33 years service.

Mr. Bishop was a member of Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Sells Bishop; one daughter, Mrs. L. B. (Patsy) Franklin, Blountville; one son, Ernest G. Mrs. Bishop was born in Scott County, Va., on Dec. 31, 1912 to the late James H. and Elizabeth McDavid Carter.

She was a homemaker and attended Brick Church in Rye Cove.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ray Bishop; sisters, Maude King, Ellen Tipton and Edna Bishop; and brothers, Eugene, Bill and James Carter.

Mrs. Bishop was born in Pikeville, Ky., however, she spent the majority of her life in Kingsport.

She was of the Apostolic faith.

Mrs. Bishop was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Before her illness, she was very active in her church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Myrtle East; one granddaughter, Betty Jo Bishop; and one sister, Frances McConnell.

She was of the Baptist faith.

KINGSPORT - W. Sam Bishop, 83, passed away at 4 p.m. Sunday ( March 23, 2003 ) at his residence.

Born in Scott County , Va. , on Aug. 7, 1919 , he was the son of the late Charles C. and Cora Davidson Bishop. He had resided in this area all but 22 years when he resided and worked in Flagstaff , Ariz.

Mr. Bishop had been employed at Flagstaff Vending and ARA Vending with over 40 years of service. He attended St. Matthew's United Methodist Church . He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and a friend to everyone.

Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Southers; and by three brothers, Ransom Bishop, Bill Bishop and Frank Bishop.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Estella "Jackie" Wright Bishop, of the home; one daughter, Loretta Hicks and husband Jack of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; one son, Skip Bishop and wife Marty of Floyd, Va.; two grandchildren, Sandra Smith and husband Steve of Evans, Ga., and Mike Bishop and wife Jessica of Gilbert, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren; special friends, Ron Kestner and wife Shelley; several nieces and nephews.
