Hello Tom,
I read with interest your "History of Mark Scott of Tower Hill."
I am a Scott descendant via Silvanus Scott & Sarah Moses of Portsmouth, NH
Samuel Scott bp 1723 Portmouth, NH & Susanna Perry
Susanna Scott bp 1752 Scarborough, ME & Wallace Fenlason of Scarboro &
Machias, ME.

I have spent quite a bit of time researching Silvanus Scott and Sarah Moses of Portmouth, New Hampshire. I would be interested in any information to support Silvanus Scott Sr's settlement in Scarboro, ME in 1730.

You see, Portsmouth, NH church records show bps for the children of Silvanus Scott and Sarah Moses 1716-1733. Also, the will of Silvanus Scott, weaver, of Portsmouth, NH was signed 17 Jul 1754 Portsmouth, NH. Original will is at NH State Archives in Concord, NH; also the body of the will is published in Probate Records of the Province of New Hampshire. Vol 5 1754-1756. State Paper Series Vol. 35. Otis G. Hammond, ed. Published by State of New Hampshire 1936. pp. 131, 132. Will proved 15 Oct 1756. The will names brother-in-law James Moses and neighbor John Langdon executors, both Portsmouth, NH residents.

This data certainly suggests that Silvanus Scott, Sr. died in Portsmouth, NH. I have found no Maine data to support any Scotts in Scarboro before 1750, the earliest record being the marriage of Silvanus's daughter, Elizabeth Scott to Col. Benjamin Foster 29 Jan 1749/50 Scarboro, ME [Scarboro, ME: 2nd Congregational Church Records, Acc't of Marriages, p. 34].

I would be most grateful for any data which places the Scotts in Scarboro, ME as early as 1730.

Regards,
