"James applied for Revolutionary Pension(Record #5529) while living in Siever Co. TN in 1832. While a resident of Wahington Co., NC(later Green Co., TN) by order of Col John Siever he raised a company of volunteers in the summer of 1779 and marched to the French Broad River to prevent the indians from crossing. In the fall of 1780 his company was involved in a battle that destroyed the left wing of Cornwallace's army and effectively ended Loyalist ascendancy in the Carolinas. (Revolutionary War Heroes of TN).
