SHAFFER, SMITH posted by Jean Smith Bennett on Wednesday, February 17, 1999

I have started looking into my family tree. I have some information about grandparents and a little about great-grandparents. Would like to know about where they came from. My grandparents were Walter A. SMITH and Kathern SHAFFER. Their parents were Alfred T. and Laverta Smith and Henry and Ida Shaffer. Walter and Kathern were born in 1904 around North Bloomfield Township. Lived most of their childhood in that area. Don't know where the Smith or Shaffer grandparents were from to start. They had small farms around Johnsville (Shauck) when Walter and Kathern were small. Any information would be appreciated.

MIX posted by Allen E. Crepeau on Saturday, March 6, 1999

I am seeking information on the following persons who appear in the 1860 census of Bennington Twp., Morrow Co., Ohio. Charles MIX, 41, egg merchant. b. CT. From the family makeup I am certain that this is my gr. grandfather and I am seeking any information which will identify his parents. I am particularly interested in locating a marriage certificate and the date and place of his marriage. Ann E. Mix, 34, b. NY - I believe that she died in Ohio before 1870, possibly of smallpox. I am seeking information on her parents, place of birth and marriage, and confirmation of her age (the 1850 New Haven, CT census shows her to be 34 or 36 in 1850 which would make her 10 yrs older than that shown in the 1860 census). Charles Mix, 8. Birth certificate. Allen Mix, 5. Death certificate. I beleive he may have died in Ohio at about the same time of his mother since the other children; Charles,Virginia and Gilbert, died after 1875 and are interred in the same plot with father Charles in Evergreen Cem., New Haven, CT. Allen E. Crepeau, 113 Burr Rd., Southbury, Ct 06488. Telephone: 203-264-0496

ACTON, BLACK, EDWARDS, HETRICK, LEMMON, MARKEY, SHAUCK, SINGREY posted by Bruce Chronister on Wednesday, March 17, 1999

My families were early (about 1815) settlers in SW Richland, NE Morrow Counties, including names MARKEY, EDWARDS, SHAUCK...and of descent: SINGREY, LEMMON, HETRICK, ACTON, BLACK (my GT GP's Abraham and Ruth SINGREY HETRICK last lived on a farm on Black Rd just south of Read Rd. Those kin giving me a little challenge are Abe's grandfather (there were four Abe Hetricks in a row) b. in York co PA 1808 and his maternal Granny Rachel Hetrick m. Osborne Acton (she d. abt 1838 in Morrow Co prob, he went on to Holt Co MO).I think the Blacks lived in the same area and were my Zela Rigg Hetrick's ancestors--I know nothing of them except that Grt Uncle Tracy Hetrick (a pioneer photographer of whose works OSU has copies in their archives) referred frequently to an Old John Black, who lived just off Black Road. I know most of these areas are in Richland now, but half-hoped someone there could assist me, too.
