Have recently learned that my great uncle, Dr. Joseph ROBERTS, during World War I, was made a Commissioner of the National Council of Defense for the State of Maryland. He practiced medicine in Salisbury, from about 1907 to 1919. He was African-American. Does anyone know what this defense council was? I'd be interested in finding out if there were any records, or newspaper articles about his role.

I am looking for history of the MESSICK family from Tyaskin, MD. My grandfather's name was Linwood and he had a twin brother named Lynford (Linford?). His children were Loarn, Kenneth, Ralph, Elizebeth and Charles. At some point, they moved from Tyaskin to Salisbury. I may have mixed the two first names up between my grandfather and his brother. Any information anyone might be able to provide would be a great help for me and my children. Thank you. Wayne C. Messick TSGT USAF RET.
