Doyle, John F.

John F. Doyle, 80, proprietor of the Iroquois Hotel, 122 Spring Street, for 17 years, died at 1:15 pm Saturday in his home after a long illness. In poor health for 15 years, he had been confined to his bed for the last four years. Mr. Doyle was born in Rome Dec. 24, 1869, son of the late Phillip and Bridget Kelley Doyle. As a young man he learned the machinists trade in the old Columbia Knitting Mill, owned by his brother, William H. Doyle, deceased. The mill on W. Liberty St. is now the site of an auto salesroom
The Roman purchased the Iroquois Hotel in 1933 after his retirement. The business was managed by his wife, the former Mary Ada Tanner, whom he married Aug. 1, 1905 in St. Peter's Church. The late Rev. Aloysius Murphy officiated. Four years ago the hotel was leased to Mr. and Mrs. Ordrell Arthur. Mr. Doyle was a member of St. Peter's Church and of Rome Lodge of Moose.
He leaves, besides his wife, a daughter, Miss Leone Doyle, Rome, a sister, Miss Minnie E. Doyle, also of Rome, and several nieces and nephews.
Doyle, Mary Ada Tanner

Mrs. John F. Doyle, 90, of 119 Fort Stanwix Park S., died this morning in Rome Hospital after a long illness. The former Mary Ada Tanner, she was born May 1, 1879, in Scriba, daughter of Timothy & Mary Gerrow Tanner. She attended Scriba schools and on June 10, 1900, in St. Peter's Church, was married to Mr. Doyle.
Mrs. Doyle was a Rome resident for 70 years. For many years she and her husband operated the Iroquois Hotel, which was razed in 1953 to make way for the extension of E. Liberty Street toBlack River Blvd. Mr. Doyle died July 29, 1950. She was a member of St. Peter's Church and a life member of the Rome Women of the Moose. Surviving are a daughter, Beatrice Leone Doyle, Rome, two nieces Mrs. Ernest (Leoma) Pfendler, Stanwix Heights, and Mrs. Howard (Mildred) Plunkett, Washington Mills, and two nephews, James Mahoney and Willard Mahoney, both of Rome.
Funeral will be held Wednesday. Intement will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
