Ramsey, Florence Tanner

July 23, 1967:

Mrs. Florence B. Ramsey, 77, of 713 W. Bloomfield St., died Sunday evening in Rome Hospital. She had been a patient four months. Born in Rome, March 19, 1890, she was the daughter of Albert and Jenny Hughes Tanner. She was married to James Ramsey in New York City, June 14, 1911. He died in 1936. Mrs. Ramsey was a member of the First Methodist Church and had resided in Rome most of her life. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Lora) A. Van Gesen, Rome, four grandchildren, Mrs. Gretchen Hollenbeck, David Van Gesen, Daniel Van Gesen, and Miss Glenda Van Gesen, all of Rome, and two nieces, Mrs. Haden Seals, Rome, and Mrs. A. Zabinski, Amsterdam. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 at the Griffin & Aldrige Funeral Home with the Rev. Leland W. Webster, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Stanwix Cemetery.

James H. Ramsey, 57, 706 Armstrong Ave., died at the Rome Hospital at 10:45 am today following a major operation two weeks ago. Mr. Ramsey had never fully recovered from an accident three years ago. An employee of the Public Works Department until his recent illness, Mr. Ramsey was born in Oriskany December 14, 1878, and had resided in Rome seven years, coming here from Stokes. He was a member of the First M. E. Church. In New York 22 years ago June 14 he married Florence Tanner, this city, who survives with a daughter Lora M., at home, his mother Mrs. Mary Carney, Bridgewater, a brother William H. Ramsey, Burlington, Vt., and a half brother, Lester Carney, Utica.
