Pfendler, Ernest

Ernest Marggi-Pfendler, 72, of 6521 Evans Road, passed away Thursday, June 27, 1996, after a battle with cancer with his family at his side.

He was born in Stokes, July 28, 1923, a son of Anthony & Freida (Seigfried Marggi) Pfendler. Mr. Pfendler was educated at Westmoreland Central School and served in the US Army as a paratrooper in World War II in the European Campaign. On March 24, 1949, he married Leona "Toots" C. Mahoney in St. Peter's Church. She passed away Aug. 28, 1988.

Mr. Pfendler retired from B. S. McCarey as a superintendent in 1988 and was a 50 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local 120. During his career he supervised several projects including Fort Stanwix, St. Peter's Church, Rome Sentinel Building, 301 Building, Strip Steel, Revere, Spargo Wire, Rome Savings Bank, St. Paul's Church, Georgian Arms, Rome City Hall, and several public schools in the City of Rome. After his retirement he devoted his time to his daughter's business, Franco's Florist.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Stanwix Heights Fire Department, and Stanwix Veterans and Men's Club. He was a former Cub Scout master and baseball coach for Stanwix Heights Little League.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Lee Pfendler Ruiz and Joseph Ruiz, and Bonnie and George Focht, all of Rome, a son, Bruce Pfendler, Potsdam, four sisters, Helen O'Dell, Alyce Thomas, Emma (Della) Sharron, Evelyn Lince, and a brother, Edwin Marggi, three ganddaughters, Megan Mae Focht, Roslyn Michelle Focht, and Sarita Ruiz, a grandson, Alexis Leone Ruiz, and six nieces and a nephew. Also surviving is his loving partner, Eleanor Talerico. He was pre-deceased by a son and two brothers, Jacob & William.

Interment Rome Cemetery.

Mrs. Leona "Toots" C. Pfendler, of 6521 Evans Road, died Sunday, Aug 28, 1988, in the Health Science Center, Syracuse, after a brief illness. Born in Lowell, on March 20, 1928, she was a daughter of Martin and Elizabeth Tanner Mahoney. She married Ernest Pfendler on March 24, 1949, in St. Peter's Church, where she was a member. Surviving besides her husband are a son, Bruce D. Pfendler, Rome, two daughters, Barbara Lee Pfendler Ruiz, and Mrs. George (Bonnie) Focht, both of Rome, a brother, Jim Mahoney, Rome and five grandchildren. Services will be at 10 am Wednesday at Nicholas J.Bush Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
