Ransom, Arthur E.

Cleveland - Arthur Ranson, 66, died about 4 o'clock Sunday morning at his home in Bridge Street, following a prolonged illness. he underwent a major operation about three months ago and gradually failed.

Mr. Ransom followed a railroad career for the greater portion of his life. he was born at Ransomville June 17, 1876, son of Herbert and Agnes Bullock Ransom and was united in marriage to Bessie Cook at Crown Point, Ind. April 27, 1908.

Surviving is his wife, two sons, Herbert and Ellsworth Ransom of Cleveland, three grandchildren, Nancy, Peggy, and William Arthur Ransom, of Cleveland, and one sister, Mrs. William Rogers of Ransomville.

Services will be held at the home on Tuesday. Burial will be at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Ransonville.


Ransom, Herbert E.

Cleveland - Herbert E. Ransom, 48, Center St., died at his home Sunday. He was a World War II veteran.

Mr. Ransom is survived by his wife, the former Karene Watson, three children, Susan, Herbert Jr., and Beverly, his mother, Mrs. Bessie Ransom, and one brother, Ellsworth, all of Cleveland. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cleveland.

Services will be held at his home Wednesday at 2 pm, with the Rev. Knapp officiating. Burial will be in the Village Cemetery.


Ransom, Herbert E. Jr.

Herbert E. Ransom Jr., fondly known as Bert, 42, of Liverpool, NY, formerly of Rome, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born May 23, 1953, in Syracuse, NY, the son of Herbert E. and Kerene Watson Ransom. he attended schools in Cleveland, NY, and Rome schools. He was a self-employed tractor=trailer operator.

Bert was united in marriage to the former Tracy Tyler on October 29, 1988.

Surviving besides his wife Tracy is his mother, Kerene, and his step-father, Julius Baker, of Rome, his precious daughter, Abigail of Liverpool, a sister, Beverly Ransom, Rome, and five special nieces, Heather Edick, Allison and Amy Scales, Brandy and Amber Giarrusso, all of Rome. He was predeceased by his father and a sister, Susan Ransom Pickett.

Bert loved life itself and forever loved to make us laugh. His family was everything to him as he was to us. He will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services will be Saturday. Spring interment will be in Cleveland Village Cemetery


Reames, Edwin W.

Edwin W. Reames, 45, Hawkins Corners Road, Lee Center, a building contractor, died Sunday night in Rome Hospital after several months illness. Son of Harold F. and Myrtle M. Cook Reames, in Rome, and attended Rome schools. During World War II he served in the Navy. On June 18, 1949, he married Ethel M. Jones in Newport. A resident of Lee Center for the past six years, he formerly lived in Rome. He was employed for 22 years at Revere's Rome Division. He retired from Revere three years ago. For the past 15 years he also was a general building contractor. Mr. Reames was of Methodist faith. He was a member of the Hathaway Lodge, F & AM, the White Front Fish and Game Club and the Trailbusters Snowmobile Club. Surviving besides his wife are his father in Sylvan Beach, two daughters, Deborah M. Reames and Maria B. Reams, and a son Lawrence E. Reames, all at home, a sister, Mrs. James N. (Alta M. ) Haley Sr., Rome, and a brother. H. Carlton Reames, Rome. Funeral services will be at 11 Wednesday at the Martin J. Nunn Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd C. Tanner, pastor of the Calvery United Methodist Church officiating.


Reames, Harold F.

Harold F. Reames, 77, of Verona Beach, a former Roman, died Thursday in Halifax Memorial Hospital, Daytona Beach, Fla., after a brief illness. He was born in the Town of Western, on April 7, 1897, son of Frederick and Ida Burch Reames. He attended schools there and married Myrtle M. Cook in Rome on May 2, 1918. She died Feb. 12, 1962. A Verona Beach resident for the past 11 years, Mr. Reames spent his winters in Florida. He was employed by Revere Copper and Brass for more than 45 years, retiring as a maintenance foreman in 1962. He was a member of Delta United Methodist Church, Stanwix Veterans and Men's Club, Hatheway Masonic Lodge and was a former member of the Lake Delta Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. James N. (Alta M.) Haley, Rome, a son, H. Carlton Reames, Ava, a brother Percy D. Reames, Rome, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Another son, Edwin W. Reames, died Aug. 9, 1970. Funeral services will be at 1 pm Tuesday at the Martin J. Nunn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, New Hartford.


Reames, Lawrence E.

Lawrence E. (Larry) Reames, 55, of 8936 Meadows Road, Taberg, New York, died Thursday, September 15, 2005, in Rome Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born December 2, 1949, in Rome, the son of Edwin and Ethel Jones. Larry was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and attended MVCC. He was employed by the City of Rome.

Larry was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Meeker-O'Rouke Post in Taberg. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the Wickwire Brook Sportsman Club and loved life to the fullest. Larry also loved his two Daschunds, Chloe and Spud.

Surviving are his mother, Esther Deming, Lee Center, two sisters, Deborah Meyers with whom he resided, Marla Reames, Lee Center, and three nephews, Jeffrey, Eric and Adam. he was predeceased by his father, Edwin, who died in 1970.

Mrs. Myrtle M. Reames, 63, of Turin Road, Mounted Route, a former Republican committeewoman in the Third Ward for several years, died this morning in the Rose Hospital after a long illness. She was born Dec. 25, 1898, in Lee Center, daughter of David B. and Mable Austin Cook. She attended schools in that community. On May 2, 1918, she was married to Harold R. Reames in the First Methodist Church, Rome. A resident of Rome and vicinity all her life, she was a member of the Delta Methodist Church, the Lake Delta Volunteer Fire Dept., Auxiliary, and the Skillin Women's Relief Corps, Grand Army of the Republic. Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Mrs. James N. Alta M. Haley, Lee, two sons, Edwin W. Reames and H. Carlton Reames, Rome, a brother, D.Stanley Cook, Rome, a great aunt, Mrs. Jennie Neusheler, Rome and three grandchildren, James B. Haley, Lee, Lawrence E. Reams and Deborah M. Reames, Rome. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Martin J. Nunn Funeral Home with the Rev. William Masters, pastor of the Delta Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, New Hartford.


Rushling, John

John M. Rusling, 80, 424 Williams Street, died yesterday in a Rome hospital. He had been in failing health for about a year and a half. Born July 8, 1868, in Hull, England, he was the son of the late George and Jane Mason Rusling. On Nov. 15, 1928, he married Mabel Cook in Taberg. The Rev. Walter Clement, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiated. Mr. Rusling resided in Providence, RI prior to coming to Rome 19 years ago. He had made 13 trips abroad during his lifetime and served with the British Army in the Huzzars War in Indian and Egyptian campaigns. Surviving besides his wife are a stepson, D. Stanley Cook, a step-daughter, Mrs. Harold F. Reams, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.


Rushling, Mabel Austin Cook

Feb. 13, 1949 Mrs. Mabel Austin Rusling, 69, 424 Williams St., widow of John M. Rusling, died yesterday at home. She had been ill two years. Born March 17, 1897, in Annsville, she was the daughter of Simon and Ellen Wood Austin. She was married April 6, 1898 to David B. Cook, who died May 26, 1927. The ceremony was in First Methodist Church, Rome, by the pastor, the Rev. John Greenfield. on Nov. 15, 1928, she was married to Mr. Rusling who died July 27, 1948. The ceremony was in Taberg with the Rev. Walter Clement, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. She lived in Rome for 25 years with the exception of three years in Camden. She attended First Methodist Church and was a member of Queen Ester Rebekah Lodge 71, Skillin Women's Relief Corps 13, and the sewing circle of the corps. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harold F. Reams, and a son D. Stanley Cook, both of Rome, a sister, Mrs. Stillman C. Davis, Cambridge, Mass, a brother, Howard C. Austin, Camden, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jennie C. Neusheler, Rome, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
