A severe accident on Rome Rd., half-mile east of the Rt. 81 exit, Sunday morning about 10 o'clock claimed the life of an elderly Altmar woman and brought injuries to two other individuals. Dead is Mrs. Jennie M. Mattison, 80, a passenger in a car operated by her brother, Pearl Cook, 70, also of Altmar. Cook, westbound on Rome Rd., apparently lost control of his car as it went off the right shoulder of the road and traveled about 160 feet along the shoulder striking a car parked on the north shoulder, headed east. The parked car was not on the road. Owner of the parked car is Leland Williams, Sandy Creek, who had gotten out of the car. His wife, Lena Williams, was in the passenger seat and suffered scalp lacerations, injuries to the right arm and leg and whiplash. She was taken to Mercy Hospital, Watertown, for treatment by the Taylor Vida ambulance. Also hospitalized was Cook, with a fractured knee and injuries to his arm. He was issued a summons for driving with an unsafe tire by Trooper Fred Thurston of the New York State Police. Assisting Trooper Thurston at the scene of the accident were Troopers R. C. Peck, J. S. Haldene and Inv. Fiegel of the BCI. Acting coroners physician, Dr. John L. H. Mason pronounced Mrs. Mattison dead at the scene. Also present was Asst. D. A. Robert Nicholson.

Services for Mrs. Mattison were held Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Foster Funeral Home, Pulaski. Officiating clergy was the Rev. Nelson R. Reppert of Park United Methodist Church and interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Altmar. Jennie M.Mattison was born July 17, 1887 at Altmar the daughter of John and Hattie Pray Cook. Educated in the Altmar School she was married in 1908 to Roy A. Mattison, whose death occurred in 1929. She had spent he summers with a surviving brother, Pearl Cook, in Altmar, and winters with a daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Leta) Vita at Lavonia, Mich. Also surviving are a nephew, Herman Mattison of Redfield, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Maida Yeardon of Redfield, a brother-in-law, Ivan Mattison, Lavonia, Michigan, and a cousin, Mrs. Bessie H. Enderson of Parish.
