I was told that John SMALL made his daughter Angeline BROWN
sole heir to his estate but have not seen the documents stating
that. Angeline BROWN was a widow by 1838 probably the wife of
Joseph BROWN. Wondering if they had a daughter named Angeline
that might have been our Angeline. The naming of Joseph B. BASS
son of James W. and Angeline, is consistent with this theory.
Then again, this may all be just coincidence and there are two
Angeline Browns. This obviously needs further research.
Gleamings from the will of John Small dated Apr 19, 1817 is that
John Small's wife is called Polly. He had at least 400 acre
farm, three children William, Thomas and Angelina. He appointed
Mark Barnet, Robert Buntin and Samuel T. Scott executors
suggesting that his children were minors in 1817. Will
witnessed by John Black, Wm Spencer?, James Hodgen. There is
another page of his will which is incomplete and scribbled out.
The docket of his estate sale includes Wm. M. SMALL, Daniel
SMITH, Tho. F?. SMALL, Geo. W. Foster and many many others. The
third page of the estate sale list includes Mary SMALL - who I
think is his widow. The estate sale witnessed by John McClue?
(on line) Sept 7, 1822, Wm. M. Small adm and Mary Small. There
is also a reference to some papers filed in Vigo Co.
There may be another connection to SMALL as James W. BASS's (b.
about 1818) brother was named Small BASS (b. abt 1806), JP of
Petersburg.
Census records are conflicting as to her place of birth, 1850
states IN while 1870 states PA.
