First Generation

1. HENRY PIPPIN¹ was born on 26 April 1801 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.² He died on 8 January 1879 at the age of 77 in Jackson County, Tennessee.² Henry was about seven when the family moved from North Carolina to Jackson Co Tennesse. He lived on Blackburn's Fork of the Roaring River.

Three of the sons served in the Civil War. Andrew & Simeon both in the 28th TN Infantry, Confederate. Their brother Kinchen was living in Missouri & served in the Union in the 68th Regt of Enrolled MO Militia and the 47th Regt, Missouri INfantry. Andrew was severely wounded in the right arm at the Battle of Chickamauga. Kinchen & his family returned home to Putnam Co TN after war and lived there four or five years, then returned to Missouri.

After Henry's death, the youngest child Eliza cared for her mother un til she died in 1891. Eliza than lived on the farm until her death - all three are buried at the Morgan Pippin Cemetery which was originally known as the Henry Pippin Family Burying Ground.

Grandson Morgan Pippin, only son of Simeon Pippin, who was also deceased by 1915, received a child's share of the farm; he then bought out the other heirs and received deed to the farm.

Case #2565 from Putnam Co Chancery Court Records. Morgan Pippin vs. Sallie Dowell et al. Report dated 16 Feb 1918 and filed at the March Term of 1918 in answer to a decree at the June Term, 1917, to discover who are the owners of the shares or interest in the Lands of HENRY & ELIZA PIPPIN. Names 7 children each to inherit equally and names a deceased daughter who died without issue.

KINCH PIPPIN who was a child of Andy but who is dead and left the following: Delia Dyer, Hattie Fox, Ova Fox, Etta Fox, JAMES PIPPIN, Roxie Pippin, and Andy Pippin each entitled to 1/784 interest.

2. SIMEON PIPPIN child of Henry and Eliza is dead and leaves as his only child and heir the complainant Morgan Pippin who is entitled to 1/7 interest

3. KINCH PIPPIN child of Henry & Eliza is dead and left the following children, heirs at law:

4. SALLIE DOWELL is a daughter of Henry & Eliza and entitled to 1/7 undivided interest in said funds.

5. BETSY BULLINGTON a daughter of Henry and Eliza is entitled to 1/7.

6. ELIZA PIPPIN is dead leaving no issue; also was a child of Henry and Eliza.

7. MARGARET BOHANAN, daughter, is dead and left children:

Surely this sets a record for the number of heirs named in a court proceeding! And don't you wonder just how much 1/2016 turned out be? 1/4 of a acre of land? 6 cents? I'll bet they could have used a calculator!

HENRY PIPPIN and ELIZABETH LAWSON were married about 1824 in Jackson County, Tennessee.³ ELIZABETH LAWSON, daughter of ROBERT LAWSON and MARGARET HICKS, was born on 13 February 1809 in Rockbridge County, Virginia.^2,4 She died on 22 October 1891 at the age of 82 in Putnam County, Tennessee.² She was buried at Morgan-Pippin Cemetery in Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee.⁵
