As of 1 Jun 1914, Elizabeth Bullington began receiving her widow's pension on Joseph's Civil War service. Her application made in Fannin Co, stated that she was the widow of Joseph Bullington who had departed this life, November of 1884 in the city of Nashville, TN. They married in March of 1858, Jackson Co, TN. She was then age 77, born in Jackson Co, TN and had resided in Texas, Fannin Co, P.O. Windom, since 1892. She again stated the Joseph Bullington had died Nov 1884. His command was organized in Tennessee. He had enlisted towards the last of the war and was gone 9 months and came home in November or Decemter. War closed before he went back. She thought he was in Swearingen's Company H., Dibrell's Regt, 8th TN Cavalry.
Affidavits were signed by F. M. Bullington, D. H. K. Duke, and J. W. Donaldson, of Fannin Co, that they personally knew Elizabeth Bullington. F. M. Bullington also knew her to be the widow of Joseph Bullington and that she had not remarried. Duke & Donaldson testified she had lived in the state of Texas since 1900.
J. R. Bullington, age 79, of Parker Co, TX, testified that he personally knew Jos. Bullington for 33 years in Putnam Co, TN. He was a soldier in Co K, 8th TN Cavalry and enlisted in 1862 and served through the war. This was the same regiment as Joseph Bullington and he never knew of any other soldier in the war by that name. He knew that Joseph Bullington had never deserted his command. J. R. Bullington also stated that he had known Elizabeth for 60 years and personally knew she was the widow and had not remarried since her husband's death.
In Byers, Texas, W. H. Wright and his wife, Sarah, certified they knew Elizabeth to be the widow of Joe Bullinton - previous to his death they had lived about 8 miles from Nashville, TN.
Jacob H. Davis of Cookeville TN made affidavit that he was age 71 and was acquainted with Joseph Bullington and served with him in Co. K under Capt. Bryant Swearingen in the 8th Tenn. regiment under General G. G. Debrell. He remembers that Joseph was a volunteer and served as a private. He knew Bullington in the Army and until he left the area of Cookeville. He did not know when Bullington enlisted or left the service but knew he fought with him in the battle of Parker's Crossroads. [This may or may not be accurate - this battle was fought 31 Dec 1862 and Elizabeth testified that Joseph Bullington had enlisted near the end of the war.]
A letter of 6 Dec 1920, with letterhead from The First State Bank ofWindom, TX, acknowledges the notification of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Bullington, pensioner. Another letter dated 1 Dec 1920 states that Mrs. Elizabeth Bullington died 22 Nov 1920 and at the request of her son, C. L. Bullington, they are returning a warrant made payable to her for $24. The letter also says she is entitled to about $30 to be applied to burial expenses and they need the forms to apply for this benefit. Both letters signed by Cashiers of the bank.
There is an application for a mortuary warrant. Elizabeth Bullington, Pension #28015. She died 22 Nov 1920, in Windom, Fannin, TX at the home of J. L. Bullington, her son. The application was made by a "Friend", E. M. Smith - he was the undertaker. Smith had prepared the body for burial and buried her in Windom. W. A. Cooper, of Windom, was the attending physician and listed the cause of death as infirmity of Old Age. Then there is a mortuary warrant for Mrs. Elizabeth Bullington - $200 for a casket, $17.50 for the hearse.

Listed in the Texas Death Index. Mrs. Elizabeth Bullington, died in Fannin Co, 22 Nov 1920. #34734. That certificate states that Mrs. Elizabeth Bullington died in Fannin Co on 22 Nov 1920 because of "general debility from old age". She was 83, born in January of 1837 in Tennessee. Her father listed as Henry Pippin, her mother's maiden name as Lawson. J. L. Bullington of Windom was the informant.

She is on FindAGrave Memorial# 14481979. Her stone is in Windom Cemetery, Fannin Co TX

There is some confusion about the daughters of Henry. Elizabeth "Hulda" Pippin Chaffin was listed as deceased in the settlement of her parents' estate as was Eliza Pippin, unmarried, no issue. Hulda Jane did indeed marry a Chaffin, so it would seem to be a mix-up in her name. Elizabeth Bullington was still living in 1918 - and indeed "Betsy" Bullington is listed as being entitled to 1/7 share.

Elizabeth "Betsy" PIPPIN and Joseph BULLINGTON were married in March 1858.51 Joseph BULLINGTON50, son of Henry T. BULLINGTON and Elizabeth HOWARD, was born in 1838 in Jackson County, Tennessee.51 He died on 15 October 1884 at the age of 46 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.
