Jack W. Cover, 77, of Robinson, IL, died at 11:30 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2004 at the Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. He was born February 24, 1927, in Bath, OH, the son of Clarence F. Cover and Eula B. Smith Cover. He was a heavy equipment operator. He served in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII. He was a member of the Harrisburg, IL Local #318, Local #12 of Pasadena, CA, First Missionary Baptist Church, Flat Rock, American Legion Post #69, Robinson, 40 & 8 #1325, V. F. W. Post #1567, Herrin, IL, Palestine AmVets Post #33, Moose Lodge #1369, Elks Lodge #1188, Palestine Masonic Lodge #849, Danville Scottish Rite, Ainad Shrine, DAV #7, Effingham, IL, the Crawford County Shrine Club and Honor Guard, and the Catherine Chapter Order of Easter Star #637. He served in various State and National offices of the American Legion and was State Commander from 1999-2000. He also served on the POW MIA National Committee.

He married Jane Pirtle May 8, 1981, and she survives. He is also survived by his son, Jack W. Cover II, Santa Barbara, CA; 3 daughters, Kimberly Standifer, Riverside, CA, Joyce L. Jackson, Apple Valley, CA, Darlene A. DeMelo, Yucaipa, CA; 2 step-sons, Bret McMahan, Sullivan, IN, Brad McMahan, Sullivan, IN; 1 step-daughter and her husband, Karen and DeLane Baker, Oblong; 14 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bill Damron, Robinson; nieces and nephews, Betty Lou and Jess Sadler, Columbus, IN, Ruth Ann and Lou Berolatti, Robinson, and Bill and Kaye Damron, Flat Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 1 brother, Clarence E. Cover.

Funeral services are Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 22nd. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine, with military graveside rites by the Robinson American Legion post #69, the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, and the AmVets Post #33. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children or the Elk's Crippled Children's Fund.
