By Maude Ellen (Hamilton) Mitchell

Horace Preston, the oldest son of John Harvy and LaDema (Dee) Hamilton, was born April 22, 1862, who had two brothers, Mervin and Eddie and one sister, Flora. LaDema died and John Harvy married again and he and his wife went west and they took Mervin and Flora with them, leaving Horace Preston and Eddie to live with relatives. Horace Preston lived with an uncle, Meredith Hamilton, and Eddie lived with the grandfather, Billy Hamilton.

In 1885, Horace Preston was united in marriage to Ellen Jane Haskin, and they settled on a farm near Hardinsville, and to this union were born six children: the writer, now Mrs. Orval C. Mitchell; Mabel LaDema, now Mrs. George E. Dean; Bert, who married Myrtle Hunt; Frank Madison, who married Madge Harrod; Mary Jane, mow Mrs. John P. Howe; and Harold. In 1902, the family moved to Robinson where the children grew up. In 1939, Frank passed away leaving one son, Robert Franklin. In 1939, Eliza Jane Haskin Hamilton, the Mother, passed away leaving two sons, James Robert and Jerry, and in 1952, Horace Preston Hamilton, the Father, passed away at the age of 89 years and both parents were buried in the Robinson New Cemetery.
