A litterary memorial to the Acadians that will live in
people's minds--"Evangeline"--was written by
the american poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow over the
period 1845-47. Longfellow heroine is a fictional character
who did not exist except in the imagination of her creator
but she has been portrayed so vividly that many people
believe the poem to be a true story. Longfellow never
visited Nova-Scotia
