1st Floor

Land Records Index
Located: Register of Deeds Office. The land records for Reno County, Kansas began in 1872.  These indexes are NOT listed alphabetically by your ancestors surname.  The property is registered by legal description, i.e., section, township and range, of the property.  Once you know the legal description, there is a two part index available, GRANTEE or buyer and GRANTOR or seller. The index lists the date of transaction, grantee, grantor, the type of instrument, volume and page where it is recorded in the original record books.  Occasionally, the legal description of the property will be provided.

Tax Records
Located: X. Records for the tax rolls are on microfilm.  These records are recorded by township and are in no particular order.

Birth and Death Records
Located: County Clerks Office. Records are available for the years 1890 to 1910 in the County Clerk‘s Office. The Reno County Genealogical Society has published these records. Microfilm is available at the Hutchinson Public Library.

Naturalization Records
Located: Office of the District Court, Division 1. These records include the years 1872 through 1906. The Reno County Genealogical Society has published the index.

Divorce Records

Located: Office of the District Court, Division 1.

Adoption Records
Located: Probate Office, District Court, Division IV.  These records are not available for copying or reading.  Adoption records are released only by the Judge and only to the adoptee.  The adoptee must of legal age.

Estate Records Index
Located: Probate Office, District Court, Division IV. The estate records began in 1872.  Depending on the estate, there will be different types of papers included with each estate file.  If there is a will, it is included with this file. Not all of these records are located within the courthouse.  Some of the records are stored in the salt mines and need to be retrieved.  There is a fee of $15.00 for this service.

Marriage Records
Located: Probate Office, District Court, Division IV.  The Reno County marriage records began in 1872. The Reno County Genealogical Society published, “Reno County Early Marriage Records 1872-1913”.  The Hutchinson Public Library has the microfilm marriage index for 1872-1957.

School Records
Contact the Board of Education, Administration Office, 1520 North Plum, Hutchinson, Kansas 67501.
