AN ACT
To provide a roster of all the ex-Confederate soldiers living in the
State of Virginia
Approved January 25, 1898
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That it shall be the duty of the several commissioners of the revenue of the several counties and cities of the com- monwealth in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, upon proper blanks to be furnished by the auditor of public accounts, to take a list of all ex-Confederate sol- diers and sailors living in the several cities and counties of the commonwealth, together with their respective ages, ranks, to what companies and regiments attached or in which they served, the date of enlistment, and the length of time in service, and shall return a full report thereof to the respective clerks of the counties or corporation courts of this commonwealth, who shall file the same in their respective offices for preservation and inspection.
