Davies, Charlotte Crossman

Mrs. Charlotte L. Crossman Davies, 711 W. Thomas St., widow of John T. Davies, died yesterday following an illness of nearly a year. Mrs. Davies, a younger daughter of the late John H. and Mary D. W. Crossman, was born in Coonrod on July 7, 1881. With her parents she moved to Rome three years later and attended schools here. Her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. John Whittemore, were pioneers in this section, having gone to Coonrod from Peterboro, NH by steam packet on the Erie Canal before the advent of the railroad. In 1918 she was married to the late Mr. Davies, a carpenter and contractor who erected many homes in Rome's northern section. Mrs. Davies was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include a brothers, Willard H. Crossman, Syracuse, and a niece, Mrs. Samuel T. Roach, Clifton Springs.


Dean, Arthur J.

Arthur J. Dean, 73, of 5161 Oswego Road, an auto mechanic of 52 years, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1986, in Rome Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born in Taberg on Nov. 17, 1912, a son of John and Lillian Crossman Dean. Mr. Dean was an auto mechanic in the Rome are for 52 years and owned and operated Dean's Service Station for 22 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Taberg United Methodist Church, Vienna Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Sylvan Beach Fire Department. Surviving are a son Robert Dean, North Syracuse, and three granddaughters. Services will be held at 10 am Monday at Prince-Boyd Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.


Dean, Harold

Taberg - Harold F. Dean, 59, RD 1, died at his home Sunday. A sister, Mrs. Rexford Small, Sylvan Beach, died Jan. 1. Mr. Dean was born in Taberg, in the house in which he died, Nov. 5, 1902, son of John and Lillian Crossman Dean. On November 22, 1924 he and Mary M. Allman were married by the Rev. Walter Clement of Taberg Methodist Church. He was a 40 year employee of Revere Copper and Brass Inc. He was a member of the Taberg Methodist Church, Taberg Volunteer Fir Department, the Revere Copper and Brass Benevolent Association and the Revere Athletic Association. Besides his wife he leaves four son, Frederick, at home, John, Homer; Richard and Douglas, Taberg; a daughter Mrs. Clifford Palmer, Taberg; a sister, Mrs. Lester Infanger, Verona Beach, a brother Arthur, Verona Beach; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2 pm Wednesday from his home with the Rev. Raymond Deitz, pastor of Taberg Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Taberg.


Dean, John

Taberg, July 12, 1925: John Dean, well known resident of this place was found dead in bed Sunday morning at 6 o'clock when his wife called him. His son, Arthur, 12, in bed beside him, was sleeping soundly, unaware that his father had passed away. Mr. Dean was in his usual good health on Saturday and after working all day milked two cows and hoed in the field. Mrs. Dean had been caring for her daughter, Mrs. Rexford Small, during the night who was ill in a downstairs room. When she received no response in the morning she investigated and found her husband's lifeless form. John Dean was born in the town of Annsville, son of the late Sanford and Alice Converse Dean. He was an accomplished cornetist and was for 15 years leader of the Taberg Cornet Band. He operated a farm for many years, but for several years had operated the steam roller for the town Highway Department. In 1895 he was united in marriage to Miss Lillian May Crossman, who survives. Besides his wife he leaves four children, Arthur and Harold at home, Mrs. Lester Infanger of Rome and Mrs. Rexford Small of Blossvale and two grandchildren, one brother, Frank, of Mcconnellsville and a sister, Mrs. Grace Brewster of Rome.

Taberg - Mrs. Lillian May Dean, 64, widow of John Dean, died at her home on the Florence Road at 3 o'clock this morning after an illness of about a year. She was born in the Town of Annsville August 5, 1872, a daughter of the late Solomon & Margaret Gibson Crossman. About 42 years ago she was married to John Dean who died July 12, 1924. Mrs. Dean had always lived in this vicinity and was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters and two sons, Harold Dean of Taberg, Mrs. Lester Infanger, Mrs. Rexford Small and Arthur John Dean of Rome; several grandchildren, and one brother, Frank Crossman of Syracuse. Funeral will be held at her late home Sunday, burial in Maple Hill.


Dean, Mary Allman

Taberg: Mrs. Mary Dean, 81, of RD1, Taberg, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1982, in Rome Hospital after a long illness. Born in Camden on Oct. 2, 1901, she was the daughter of Fred and Eliza Hiltbrand Allman. She attended Utica Business School and married Harold F. Dean in Taberg on Nov. 22, 1924. He died in 1962. Mrs. Dean was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Annsville Friendship Club. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Joan) Palmer, Taberg, four sons, Fred, Richard, and Douglas Dean, all of Taberg, and John Dean, Homer, and nine grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 am Wednesday in the United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

The remains of Mrs. Irvine Dunham, of Sauquoit, will be brought here next Thursday (to-morrow) for burial. Mrs. Dunham, nee Miss Mattie Flagg, was brought up in our village, and has a large circle of relatives and friends here who received the news of her death with sincere sorrow. The funeral will occur at the M. E. Church, Rev. C. H. Wetherbee, of the Baptist Church, officiating.
