Willard Bryant was born and raised in Chesterfield, MA, the second of six children, and the oldest boy.
Willard fought for the Union during the Civil War. He served as a private in I Co. of the Massachusetts 52nd Infantry Regiment, enlisting on 15 Sep 1862 and mstuering out on 14 August 1863. His regiment saw action at Port Hudson, Louisiana in June and July, 1863.
After the war, Willard moved west to Bureau Co., IL. Willard and Charlotte married in 1869, settling on a farm in Wyanet. There they raised nine children. Willard passed away in 1920, and Charlotte in 1926.
