CHARLES FRANCIS CRACK
July 4, 1934 - May 25, 2009
In loving memory of Charlie Crack, a resident of Barrie Island, who died at the Mindemoya Hospital, on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the age of 74 years. Charlie was born in Sault Ste. Marie, son of the late Cyril and Amy (Dear) Crack. Charlie always kept busy and had a knack with mechanical equipment, working with cars, trucks and tractors. While in Sault Ste. Marie he worked at a steel plant. Upon arriving on the Island he drove school bus for McQuarries for 20 years and also worked for Lauchie McDougall Construction. When he wasn't busy playing with machines, Charlie loved to play on a variety of musical instruments. Charlie was known to many as "Papa Charlie", and will be greatly missed in the community. Predeceased by his loving wife Margaret (Ruttle) in 1973. Loved and loving father of Kenneth (Cathy) of Sault Ste. Marie, Laurie (Morgan) of Barrie Island, Carol (Dave) of Windsor, Kathy (Harold) of Cochrane, Karen (Jay) of Windsor, Kelly of Gore Bay, Kerry (Marie-France) of Mississauga, and Kevin of London. Proud grandfather of Melissa (Daryl), Brandon, Anthony, Danny, Zachary, Leanna, Amy, Naomi, Harley, Chelsea, Brian and great-grandchildren Clarrisa, Adan and Connor. Also survived by Christine. Dear brother of Leota (Jack) Wood of Sault Ste. Marie, William (Nina) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ronald of Sault Ste. Marie, Larry (Barbara predeceased) of Sault Ste. Marie, and Mervyn (Betty) of Little Current. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, May 30 at 2 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Hwy 540 and Emery Rd. Refreshments followed at Gordon Community Hall, Gordon Township. Cremation to take place. Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Death of Mrs. Craig
Died in Gore Bay on Jan. 4th, Mrs. Craig, mother of Mr. John Craig.
The deceased was born in Tipperary, Ireland and came to Ontario when a girl, residing in Hamilton, until a few years ago, when she came to Gore Bay and resided with her son here.
The remains were conveyed to Hamilton on Friday for interment.
She leaves to mourn her loss, three sons, Albert of Hamilton, Robert in California and J.H. of Gore Bay.
Mrs. Craig has been an invalid for some years past and confined to her bed. She bore her suffering patiently until death came to relieve her of bodily pain.
Deceased was in her 77th year.

ROBERT EARL CRANNEY
In loving memory Robert Earl Cranney, October 1, 1944-July 5, 2000.
Robert Cranney, a resident of Sucker Creek, died at his residence on Wednesday, July 5, 2000 at the age of 55 years. He was born in Toronto, adopted son of the late Percy and Violet Reid.
Robert had worked for Ontario Hydro, and moved to Little Current in 1988, and in October of 1999, moved to Sucker Creek, where he was most recently employed by Wabuno Fish Farm. He had many interests, among them hockey, boxing, golf, (and was a true sports activist) and hobby farming.
Robert will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but many memories will be cherished.
Dearly loved husband of Joan (McGraw) Cranney of Sucker Creek. Dearly loved father of Debbie Lee and her fianc� Jeffrey Francis of Sheguiandah, Sean Paul of Little Current and predeceased by daughter Christine Louise. Loving grandfather of Santana, Justin, Tyson and Dylan. Loving son-in-law of the late Veronica McGraw of Sucker Creek. Dear brother of Eleanor Monk of Owen Sound and Frances of Clarksburg. Predeceased by sister Loreen. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Dear sister of the late Fred, Ann (Mrs. Ivan Ste Stephens), Agnes Gammie, the late Henry, the late Henry, [sic] the late Raymond, Martin, the late Mathew, Mae (Mrs. Rex Alexander), Alena (Mrs. Arden Wilson) and Joseph. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Friends were received at the Turner Funeral Home, Gore Bay Tuesday. Funeral service was held at the funeral home Wednesday at 2:00 pm.

Providence Bay
Archibald Cranston, an old and respected resident of the township of Carnarvon, aged 74 years, died on Sunday last and was buried to-day in the Providence Bay cemetery Rev. T. E. Meldrum, Baptist, conducted the burial service.

Obituary
Mrs. Christina Cranston
The community was thrown into a state of deep sadness on the morning of January 3rd when it became known that Mrs. Christina Cranston, wife of the late John Cranston of Carnarvon who preceded her six years ago, had passed away during the night.
About a month previous to her death she took what was supposed to be a cold and complained of a severe pain in her head, the Dr. was called and found no serious trouble other than the pain in her head and some bronchal (sic) trouble but she gradually grew worse and when the Dr. came again he pronounced it a case of Typhoid Pneumonia from which she never recovered. She suffered patiently until the above date when she passed away.
Mrs. Cranston was born in Campbell township and was in her thirty-fifth year. She leaves to mourn her loss five children, Reta, Nelda, Raymond, Ina and Maxie, ranging in age from fifteen to four years. Also a mother, Mrs. N. B. McColeman and one sister, Mrs. Duncan Reed of Delia, Alta., six brothers and one sister in Campbell, Archie, Allen, Neil, John, Philip, William and Sadie and Norman of Desbora�s.
The late Mrs. Cranston was converted when a girl and was a member of the Presbyterian Church and lived a Godly life and tried to bring up her family to follow in her steps. She was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, to say that she will be missed in the community only partially conveys the feeling of the people.
A very impressive service was conducted by Mr. Dunbar and Mr. Brubaker in Carnarvon Union Church, where the deceased was a regular attendee. The esteem in which the late Mrs. Cranston was held was shown by the large gathering for though the day was stormy the church was crowded. The remains were laid to rest beside her husband in Grimesthorpe cemetery, there to await the resurrection of the just.

Funeral Service Held For George Cranston
A well known Mills Township farmer, George Kennedy Cranston, died suddenly of a heart seizure on June 14. He was in his 62 year.
Although in failing health, he had worked up until the moment of his death. He sold his farm and an auction sale was in progress at the time, part of his plans for retiring.
It was said the excitement of the day had proven too much for him. Mr. Cranston was born at Spring Bay and began farming there in 1916 continuing until 1937. In 1930 he and his wife started a tourist resort on Kagawong Lake, which was sold in 1944 to Fred Coldwell. He then moved to Mills Township where he farmed until his death.
Mr. Cranston was married in 1917 to Miss Mina Etta Marshall who survives him along with two children, Mrs. Emerson Lewis (Edna) of Spring Bay and Arnold of Sudbury.
Three brothers, John, Archie and Andrew predeceased him.
Funeral services were conducted from his residence in Mills June 17 with Rev. Pugh of United Missionary Church officiating, assisted by Rev. A. Kennard of Silverwater United Church and Mr. Catto of Spring Bay Baptist Church.
Hymns were "Safe in The Arms of Jesus" and "Abide With Me" By special request Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Herb Galbraith sang the comforting hymn "Look Up With Tearless Eye".
A large number of floral tributes revealed the high esteem in which Mr. Cranston was held. being of a kind and jovial nature he won many friends especially among the children and older people.
Honorary pallbearers were Harvey Haner Sr., David Kirk, Norman Lewis, Herman Pearson, Russell Ritching and Adam Casson.
Active pallbearers were Clifford Galbraith, Matthew Sloss, James Wiseman, Llewellyn Honess, John Orford and Bert Best. Burial was in Grimesthorpe Cemetery.

GRANT RANDOLPH CRANSTON
Grant Randolph Cranston of Lockerby, Ontario, passed away suddenly at the Copper Cliff Hospital, on Monday, August 6th, 1956, as a result of an accident at the smelter in Copper Cliff. He was in his 40th year. Mr. Cranston was born in Mindemoya, on April, 2nd 1917 the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Cranston. His father predeceased him in 1926. He received his education in Mindemoya and lived on the Manitoulin Island until 1937 when he went to Sudbury. During his early life on Manitoulin he was very active in baseball. After going to Sudbury he was employed by International Nickel until the time of his death. On July, 26, 1939 he married Marion Steele of Meldrum Bay. Mr. Cranston was an ardent fisherman, hunter, and gardener. Besides his wife and one daughter Shirley Anne 12 years of age, he leaves to mourn his mother and step-father. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Haner of Mindemoya; two sisters, Mrs. Gordon Clark, (Wilda), Spring Bay and Mrs. Roy Cooper, (Lois) Mindemoya, and two step-brothers, Harvey and Frank Haner of Spring Bay. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August, 8th, at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home on Larch Street in Sudbury, the service was conducted by Rev. Masacar of Creighton Mine. Thence the body was brought by funeral coach for burial in Mindemoya Cemetery Thursday, August 9th, where a short service was conducted by Rev. Pugh of Spring Bay and assisted by Rev. Kennard of Silver Water. Pallbearers were: Mike Smith, Duff Brown, Howard Elliot, Stan Farquhar, Jack McDonald and Walter Mcdonald.

JOHN RANDOLPH CRANSTON
July 29, 1934 - November 10, 2010
In loving memory of John Cranston, a resident of Providence Bay, who died suddenly at his residence on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the age of 76 years. He was born at Providence Bay, son of the late Hilton and Alma (Lanktree) Cranston. He had worked as a contractor all his life. John was an active member of the community, serving on the Community Centre Board as well as many projects in Providence Bay area. He loved working on machinery and tractors, and had an ability to be able to fix anything, even when it seemed an impossibility to repair or get running. John was a very smart and innovative person, using his knowledge of physics to solve any problem. He had a great collection of equipment, including a fire truck, that he was very proud of. When asked why he would buy a fire truck, in his dry humour, his response was "I didn't have one." Although John was a quiet man, his character spoke volumes. He loved his family and his grandchildren were of the utmost importance to him. He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. John will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but many memories will be cherished. Dearly loved husband of Shirley (Colwell) Cranston. Loving and loved father of John Jr. and his wife Karen of Providence Bay, Wendy and husband Bruce Wiggins of Mindemoya, Cathy and husband Kelvin Chant and Kerry and husband Stephen Barclay all of Toronto and Joe and his wife Nancy of Mindemoya. Proud grandfather of 11. John was very excited and looking forward to the arrival of their first great-grandchild early next year. Obituary
Mrs. Robert Cranston
On the 22nd of April, Mrs. Robert Cranston of Campbell Township passed away at her home after a lingering illness.
Early in the winter she was attacked with a nervous affliction and heart troubles and was too ill most of the time to see anyone outside of her immediate family.
The late Mrs. Cranston was born in the Township of Onieda in Haldimand County, Ontario on June 19th, 1855. She was married in October of 1879, and came as a bride to the Manitoulin Island, residing her until the time of her death.
Early in life she became connected with the Gore Presbyterian Church in Onieda, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Campbell Township from its very beginning. In the Sunday school of this church she was an earnest and valued worker for over twenty years.
On the community in which she lived Mrs. Cranston has left the mighty influence of a truly Godly life. Her character showed forth in a quiet, and yet remarkable way the fruit of the Spirit.
Her deep interest in the welfare of all in her neighborhood; her devoted work in her Church and Sunday School especially among the boys and girls, and her faithful and loving application in the duties of a wife and mother in her home can only e summed up and expressed as cheerful fidelity.
The funeral service was conducted at the house by Rev. W.S. Ware, and the large number of friends who gathered to express their sympathy with the bereaved was an eloquent testimony to the high esteem in which she was held.
A husband, nine sons, six of whom were pallbearers, three daughters and twenty grandchildren are left to mourn their loss.
Interment took place in Grimesthorpe cemetery.

MARY LOU CRANSTON
In loving memory of Dr. Mary Lou Cranston who passed away July 28, 2004 in Devon, Alberta. Born in Toronto, in 1945, beloved daughter of Charles (late) and Clara Cranston of Mindemoya. Lovingly remembered and survived by sisters Ann Marie (husband Bent Henriksen) of Denmark, Marie Celeste of Mindemoya, and brother Bill (wife Ann) of Mindemoya. She will be sadly missed by special friend Sharon Downs, of Devon. Mary Lou received her doctorate in moral theology in Rome, Italy. She dedicated her life to teaching in various institutions across Canada, more particularly ethical and moral issues in recent years until her death. After a brief battle with cancer, Mary Lou passed away peacefully at home. Cremation has taken place, with burial of ashes in the hills she loved in Devon. A memorial service was to be held Tuesday, August 10, 2004 in Mindemoya.

- Mrs. Mina Cranston of Spring Bay passed away at Sudbury Memorial Hospital, Oct. 22 1977.
She was born in Billings Township, October 28, 1897.The daughter of the late Caroline Bowser and William Marshall. Beloved wife of the late George Cranston, who predeceased her in June 1955.
She is survived by her daughter Edna (Mrs. Emerson Lewis) of Mindemoya and her son Arnold of Sudbury, one granddaughter Carolyn Cranston, two sisters, Dora (Mrs. Earl Lewis), Spring Bay and Lenna (Mrs. Basil McColeman) of Sudbury and Roy Marshall of Massey. She was predeceased by sisters, Lilly (Mrs. Frank Paisley), Fannie (Mrs. Wm. Hubbard) Clara (Mrs. Jas. Anderson ) and by brothers, Norman and William Marshall, Agnes and Alfred in infancy. She was very active in the community always willing to help with the women's church work and will be remembered for her needlework and beautiful flower garden.
The funeral service was at the Turner Funeral Home in Gore Bay on October 25 with Rev. D. M. A. MacQueen and Pastor J. E. Montgomery officiating with interment in Grimesthorpe Cemetery. Pallbearers were Freeman Marshall, Fred Marshall, Harold Paisley, Eldon Lewis, Wendall Buie and Douglas Patterson. There's an open gate

NELDA IRENE CRANSTON
Cranston, Nelda Irene (Monkhouse) � A resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, Gore Bay, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 1993 in her 87th year. She was born at Providence Bay, daughter of the late Captain William J. and Sarah (Martin) Monkhouse, and had been a resident of the Lodge for the past 4 years. Nelda had been trained as a Registered Nurse in Detroit and graduated as R. N. in 1932; she worked there until she married and returned to the Island, where she worked as an R. N. at Mindemoya Hospital. She was a member of the Spring Bay Women�s Institutesince 1937; life member since 1962. Her husband, Fred Cranston, predeceased in 1966. Dear sister of Myrtle Clark of Little Current and loving aunt of a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Ruby Ainsle, Elizabeth Shaffer and brothers William, Clifford and Austin Monkhouse. The funeral service was conducted at the Providence Bay United Church on Monday with Reverend Mary Jo Eckert-Tracy officiating. Interment in Providence Bay Cemetery.

The family sadly wishes to announce the passing of Bernice Irene Crawford on September 3, 2008 in the Kirkland and District Hospital. Predeceased by her parents Algernon and Leatha Holmes, infant brother Ronald Holmes, brother Donald Holmes, sister Inez Potter, one step-son Mervyn Hack, brothers-in-law Robert D. Crawford, George Potter, Alan and Gordon Parcher, as well as one infant son (1955) and her beloved husband Harry William Crawford (1968). She is survived by her son Blaine (Kathie) Crawford of Kirkland Lake, step-son Harry Crawford III of Toronto, grandchildren Scott and Shauna Crawford, sisters-in-law Evelyn Holmes of Kirkland Lake and Bernadette Crawford of Sarnia. Nieces and nephews: Greg (Lee- Ann) Holmes of Kirkland Lake, Ronald (Erin) Holmes of Timmins, Judy (Marc) Vachon of Manitoulin Island, Dawn Potter and Edwin (Linda) Potter of Mississauga, Peter (Paulette) Crawford of Tarzwell, Lise-Anne, Catherine, and Robert Crawford of Toronto, Jimmy, Donald (Lorraine), Steve (Brenda) Parcher, all of Kirkland Lake. She is also survived by her �special adopted� grandson Herman Kant of Kirkland Lake, her life-long friends Joyce Angus of Falconbridge and Marg (Norm) Mudrick of Haileybury, as well as many step-grandchildren. Mrs. Crawford was born in 1927 and raised here in Kirkland Lake. She took pride in being a member of the �Third Street Gang.� Her father was one of the first pump house operators and was instrumental in the building of the first town pool. Bernice, her siblings and friends helped dig the original pools with their bare hands. Mrs. Crawford was the owner of Crawford's' Confectionary on Queen St. from 1968 until illness forced its closing in 1995, as such she was a fixture in the Queen St. area for 40 years. Until her passing she would often talk about how she missed her customers. Alternately, her customers would often remark about how they missed her candy counter. At Mrs. Crawford�s request cremation has already taken place and there will be no funeral service. There will, however, be a memorial service in the Salvation Army Church on Sylvanite Ave. in Kirkland Lake Friday September 12, 2008 at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Salvation Army Food Bank would be greatly appreciated.

In loving memory of Elwood Crawford, a resident of R.R. 3, Spring Bay, who died at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the age of 67 years. Son of the late Earl Ross Crawford and Amelia McGathy. Born and raised in Long Bay, he devoted his time to farming and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed gardening and carpentry. Elwood also liked talking of old times, and also enjoyed deer season when the hunting gang would visit from Sault Ste. Marie to share company, stories and play cards. When they had the chance they would travel to Sault Ste. Marie to visit family and friends. Elwood is survived by his beloved wife Sharon, son Les (Myette) and step-grandsons. Also survived by special Aunt Lillian Crawford (Wallace predeceased). Brother of the late Ervan Crawford and Elva and husband Frank Tuckett of Sault Ste. Marie and Velma and husband Don Desautel also of Sault Ste. Marie. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Special longtime friends of the Roach family. At Elwood's request cremation will take place. A graveside service will be conducted at Burpee Mills Cemetery on Thursday, November 29, 2009 at 11 am. She was born in M'Chigeeng, daughter of the late Ernest and Bernice (Corbiere) Debassige. Dear wife of Art Crawford. Loving mother of Terry Durno (friend Sarah). Beloved grandmother of Sebastian Gamble. Dear sister of Lloyd Debassige (predeceased) (Lillian), Nancy Debassige, Winnifred Still (predeceased), Yvonne Alberts (John), Nelson Debassige (Joyce), Annabelle Debassige (predeceased), Alice Meadus (Ron), Clifford Debassige (Kate), Linda Van Horne (Perry), Monica Debassige, Albert (Abby) Debassige (Janet), Rochelle Debassige (Kevin), Gloria Popat (Hanif). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jackie had worked as a homemaker for 10 years for M'Chigeeng First Nation. She loved the outdoors, fishing, ice fishing, gardening and camping. Other enjoyable interests were knitting, watching Y & R and bingo. Jackie enjoyed family gatherings and loved cooking. Many fond memories will be cherished by all who knew her. 1932 �WILLIAM CRAWFORD
One by one the pioneers of Manitoulin pass on to be perhaps pioneers in another and unsurveyed country. There died at his home in Carnarvon, Lot 28, Con. 1, on Nov. 18th, William Crawford, aged about 89 years, who came to the Island from Collingwood district in 1874. He was born in Mulvert Township, near Notawasaga, which again is near Collingwood. He first settled on the 2nd line of Sandfield township until; 26 years ago when he moved to his present home. He was twice married. The first time to Margaret Bond in 1878, who only lived a year or so after their marriage. Again a few years later to Josephine Sinclaire by whom there were five children, Mabel (deceased), Mrs. H. Shepard, Mrs. Van Horn, of Meldrum Bay and two boys at home John and Herbert. There is one sister of Mr. Wm. Crawford living I Angus. Mr. Crawford was of a modest and retiring nature, but was noted for his amiable and kindly nature and conversation. Mrs. Crawford predeceased him by one year and eighteen days. The funeral on Sunday afternoon, Nov 20th, was from the house to Mindemoya cemetery.

J. F. Creighton Dead
On Wednesday morning, October 21, about 6 o�clock, James Farish Creighton died at the county gaol, where he was occupying the condemned cell 44 days before time fixed by law, for the murder of his wife and two stepdaughters. Since the time of his sentence on the 1st of October, Creighton had apparently lost all interest in matters about him and has been closely guarded. His health until a few days previous to his death, was fairly good, but sickness set in and he vomited a good deal. On Tuesday these attacks increased in violence and he was unable to get out of bed. His condition got worse until death ensued on Wednesday morning as above stated. The inquest opened on Wednesday afternoon in the Judge�s Chambers at the court house before coroner Allan Cameron after the body was laid out in the condemned cell. Dan enjoyed woodworking and could make almost anything required for his on-going projects. He built his family home and several others. He loved working on genealogy and flew to Trimbach, France where the "Cress" family originated. He loved Country music and also loved to cook and bake. He was the former owner of the Island Hub and Pine Cupboard Restaurants. Prior to Dan returning to the Island from Oakville and Mississauga he was a Stationary Engineer for Pittsburgh Paints and also worked as an assembly person at the Ford Motor Co. Dan enjoyed people and made many friends and aquaintances over the years. Family was most important to Dan, and he loved them dearly. He will be sadly missed. Memorial Service will be 7:00 pm Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Mindemoya Missionary Church, Rev. Ray Kloestra officiating. She was born at Tehkummah, daughter of the late Percy Melvin and Edna Mary (Quackenbush) Pearson. Elsie was active in the Spring Bay Pentecostal Church and the Mindemoya Missionary Church. She enjoyed tending to her flowers in her garden, cooking, knitting and quilting. Dearly loved wife of Hawley Cress; loving mother and mother-in-law of Larry and Roberta Cress of Tehkummah; Danny and Anita Cress and Jack Cress, friend Carolyne, all of Mindemoya; Beryl and Shane Laidley of Little Current and Patsy Cress and friend Merv of Mindemoya. She was born in Assiginack Township, daughter of the late David and Elizabeth (Martin) Sim. She was a member of the Providence Bay United Church. Elva had many interests including knitting and crocheting, playing cards and bingo. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and shopping. Elva will be missed, but many memories will be cherished by all who knew her. Elva is predeceased by her husband Paul Cress. Loving mother of Joan Campbell (husband Keith), David Cress, Norman Cress and Lola Churchill (friend Gerry Duguay) all of Milton. In loving memory of Robert "Big Bob" James Cresswell, age 73 years, who passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 12, 2005 with his loving wife Katherine and many family members by his side. Bob's life was a gift to all who knew him. Blessed with a sunny disposition, teasing ways and a caring heart, he brought laughter and joy to all he encountered on his life's journey. He was born in Coniston, the son of Fred and May (Dubury) Cresswell, predeceased and made that community his home his entire life. He began working at INCO at an early age as a student and laborer ending as the General Foreman of the Coniston plant and retiring from Copper Cliff in 1982 as a safety foreman with 38 years of service. He was active in his younger years in the community as a volunteer fireman, a Scout leader and willing helper at All Saints Anglican Church and later as a Legion member and member of the Coniston Senior's Club. Loving husband of Katherine Rita McKerral Boyd and dear father for the past 17 wonderful years of Sandra Boyd of Coniston, Linda Boyd of Sudbury, Jim (wife Nancy) of St. Albert, Alberta, Ron "Bubba" Boyd of Toronto (predeceased in 1997), Randy (wife Kathleen) of Marietta, Georgia and Karen of Saskatoon, Sask. Beloved grandfather of Keith, Kyle, Michelle, Greg, Brendan, Taylor and Connor. Bob was a well-liked, well-respected all-round great guy who enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, square dancing and travelling and spending time with his life-long companions (past and present) at the Birch Ridge Hunt Club in Spring Bay on beautiful Manitoulin Island. He was a great friend to all - especially his good buddy "Kresge" Cresswell (predeceased). Bob and Katherine were married later in their lives but Bob proved to be a "natural" family man. He showered Katherine with love and affection, showing her in a million different ways how she had enhanced his life and he was a wise and loving father and grandfather to his ready-made family. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his courage, his dignity and his patience during this last year which was filled with so many challenges. Special thanks to Dr. Sauve and staff of ICU for their compassion and understanding as well as Dr. Hendel, Dr. Theriault, and Dr. Chow and the many great nurses and support staff for their dedicated and caring ways. Miss Matilda Creswicke
After an illness of two weeks, there passed away on March 30 in the Royal Victoria Hospital, one of the oldest residents of Barrie in the person of Miss S.A. Matilda Creswicke, second daughter of the late Henry Creswicke, P.S.L. and C.E. Miss Creswicke was born in the township of Oro eighty-one years ago and came to Barrie with her father and family in 1853. Since the death of her father in 183 and her mother in 1897, she has resided in the fmily home in Thesesa St. Barrie. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. C. E. Hewson, wife of Judge Hewson of Gore Bay. The late Henry Creswicke, Jr., D.I.S. and A. E.H. Creswicke, K.C., were brothers of the deceased.
Miss Creswicke was a member of the Church of England and was much interested in the work of Trinity Church. The Women�s Auxiliary of which she was a member attended in a body at the funeral service in Trinity Church on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. A.R. Beverley was in charge of the service and the funeral address was delivered by Rev. Canon Reiner, who spoke very highly of the deceased. The pallbearers were: Capt. Bird, D.H. Coleman, T.T. Young, Peter Glennie, W. H. Hewson and E.A. Little. Interment was made in the Union Cemetery. There were many beautiful floral offerings.
Among those from out of town present at the funeral were: Judge Hewson and Mrs. Hewson (who had been with her sier (sic) in her last illness), Gore Bay; Mrs. Cyril Knight, Cobalt; Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Webster, Oakville; W.H. Hewson, Mr. and Mrs. D.D. McGibbon, Penetang; Miss Theo Hewson, Mr. O�Reilly, Miss Alice Creswicke and Hal Creswicke, Toronto.

D. Lorne Crites
Lorne Crites, Popular Hotel Man, Passes
A legion of friends in all walks of life were shocked to learn of the sudden death early last evening of D. Lorne Crites, 60, lakehead hotel man, first world war hero, and proprietor of the Adanac hotel, who died at his home on Simpson street.
No warning was given of the sudden passing of this popular figure. Mr. Crites had been around the hotel all day. He died in his chair shortly after his evening meal.
Mr. Crites had been a resident of Fort William for 37 years, coming here in 1908. He was born in Penetanguishene, Ont., and moved with his parents when a small boy to Little Current, Ont., where he lived until coming to the lakehead.
During his early years here he was connected with the Empire Hotel, Fort William, until 1915 when, with a number of hotel men, he joined the 44th Battalion and went to Winnipeg as one of a machine gun section.

Funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Crites
Throngs of friends of the family paid final tribute yesterday afternoon at impressive funeral services for the late Mrs. Elizabeth Crites, well known resident of the city, who died Saturday.
The funeral was held at 2 o�clock from George E. Blake funeral chapel. Rev. Agnew H. Johnston, of St. Andrew�s Presbyterian Church, officiated. He paid tribute to the excellent worth of the deceased and words of comfort were spoken for the bereaved members of the family. One hymn, �Nearer My God to Thee� was sung. Mrs. W.E. Higgins sang feelingly �In the City Four Square.� Mrs. D. McMichael presided at the organ. Many beautiful floral tributes were received showing the esteem Mrs. Crites was held by her many friends. An extra car was used to convey the flowers to the cemetery.
Pallbearers were: J. A. McLeod, Peter McLaren, Walter Doherty, John D. Drynan, L. Smith and Thomas Ferguson.
Mrs. Sadie Robillard, a daughter, arrived Monday night from Los Angeles, California, to attend the funeral of her mother.

Mrs. E. Crites Called by Death
A well known and highly respected resident of the city for the last 26 years, Mr. (sic) Elizabeth Crites, mother of Lorne Crites, proprietor of the Adanac hotel, died Saturday afternoon at 12:45 o�clock. She was in her 75th year. She resided at 202 north May street.
Stricken with a sudden illness about a week ago she failed to rally. News of her comparatively sudden demise was received with heartfelt sorrow by her large circle of friends in the two cities.
She was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter. They are: Lorne Crites, proprietor of the Adanac Hotel; Ernest Crites, of Geraldton, and Mrs. Sadie Robillard, a resident of Los Angeles for the last two years. She formerly resided at 202 north May street, and is on her way to the city for the funeral. Two grandsons, Barry Robillard and Lorne Crites, and one granddaughter, Jacqueline Crites, survive also. A sister, Mrs. Fred Rowe, resides at Little Current, Manitoulin Island, and a brother, William Cathcart, also resides at Little Current.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o�clock from the Geo. E. Blake funeral chapel. Rev. Agnew H. Johnston, of St. Andrew�s Presbyterian church, will officiate and burial will be in the family plot, Mountain View cemetery.

BERYL CROFT

In loving memory of Beryl Croft, a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, who died at the Lodge on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the age of 97 years. She was born in Burpee Township, daughter of the late Angus and Flora (Bell) Campbell. She had a variety of interests which included knitting, euchre, cards, quilting and gardening. Beryl was also a long time member of the Church of Christ at Ice Lake. Beryl was predeceased by her beloved husband George (Amby) Croft. Loved mother of Douglas and his wife Noreen and Wayne and his wife Ruby. Tim was born on September 17, 1912 in Cullross Township, Bruce County to the late Joseph and Mary Anne (Weishar) Cronin. Brother of Marcella Weiler (late Bernie) of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Predeceased by sister Evelyn O'Neill and brothers Wilbert and Michael.
Tim was transferred to Manitowaning in 1932, with the Bank of Montreal, married and then set up his first business in Aurora, Ontario in 1935--returning to the Manitoulin Island in 1937. Tim operated Cronin's Crafts from 1939-1950 in Manitowaning and the T&K Gift Shop in Espanola from 1953. Tim was associated with the Stedman Chain for 57 years having owned and operated Cronin Stores in Manitowaning, Espanola and Sundridge.
Tim was an avid golfer and one of the founding members of the Espanola Golf Club. He also enjoyed golfing in the winter months in Florida. As well he had a passion for curling and was a member of the Decades Club, faithfully attending the International Bonspiel in Quebec City.
Tim was a member of the Espanola Lion Club, retiring in 1985. Tim had a love of sports and music--and those blue eyes were really twinkling as he entertained all with his unique sense of humour.
Rested at the Bourcier Funeral Home in Espanola. Funeral Mass was held at St. Louis de France Church in Espanola on Saturday, August 25, 2001 with Father Al McMillan officiating. Interment in Espanola Cemetery.

Noreen Cronk, a resident of Gore Bay, and formerly of Billings Township, died at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, St. Joseph's Site on Sunday July 23, 2000 at the age of 66 years. She was born in Billings Township, daughter of the late Lee and Joyce (Cornellius) Brandow. Noreen had lived most of her life on the farm in Billings. before moving to Gore Bay three years ago. Noreen enjoyed embroidery, card games and especially Country and Western music. She will be missed by her family and friends, but many memories will be cherished.

WILLIAM DELANORE CRONK
Del Cronk, a resident of Billings Township, died at home on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at the age of 61 years. He was born in Kagawong, son of the late John and Laurinda (Orr) Cronk. He drove truck most of his life, with imperial Oil for over 20 years, and for commercial Transport, Day Transport and lastly Manitoulin Transport. Del loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and golfing. He will be sadly missed, but many memories will be cherished. Del is survived by dearest friend Ethel Bowerman of Mindemoya, brothers Mark of Billings Twp., Ross (Marilyn Wyers) of Billings Twp., Charles (Chris Racey) of Gore Bay and sisters Laura Mulville (Ron Thornton) of Gravenhurst, Gladys Beland (Clifford) of Sudbury, Peggy Thibault (Earl Dahl) of Sudbury and Mary Ellen Thompson (Ron) of Sault Ste. Thomas Cronkhite Passes Away
Mr. Thomas Cronkhite died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. Needham, on Friday evening, Sept. 20th, in his 83rd year. The funeral took place at the place of his decease on Monday afternoon, the preacher being Mr. John Parker of Sturgeon Falls.
The deceased was in business in Thessalon for a number of years where his wife predeceased him four years ago. His health not being good he retired from business and went to British Columbia to live with his son Thomas but not finding the climate congenial he returned east and has since resided in Gore Bay with his ��.Steve and with Mrs. Needham.
The late Mr. Cronkhite was an enthusiastic Bible student and frequently�..letters to the local press on��In religion he was a ��Interment took place �..on Tuesday afternoon. (Paper is torn in microfilm image)

Many Tributes Paid To Murdered Woman
Mrs. Crooks Laid to Rest Beside Husband and Son
Dundas, Jan. 29-Mrs. Martha Crooks, who was beaten to death in her home in Toronto, was buried here yesterday beside her husband and her son.
It was late in the afternoon when the last funeral rites were conducted in the cemetery. Forty mourners stood around the open graveside, at the top of a hill. At the head of the grave the minister, Archdeacon MacIntosh, bowed his head in prayer.
Mrs. Crooks had lived for over twenty years in this little town. And the town felt the tragedy of her death. Scores of people visited the undertaking parlors where the body lay to pay a last tribute, and over two hundred were at the Anglican church for the funeral service.
The service was simple and impressive. As the casket was borne into place the people joined in the hymn: �Nearer My God to Thee.� Then Archdeacon MacIntosh lead in a psalm and the choir responded: �The righteous cry and the Lord heareth the Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.� Then the organ pealed out �On the resurrection morning: and as the strains of the hymn died away Archdeacon MacIntosh repeated the Lord�s Prayer, a prayer for the bereaved and then the benediction.
People from all over the countryside came to the funeral. Many beautiful floral tributes spoke of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Tributes came from Simcoe County for it was form two of the pioneer families of that county that the deceased was descended. Her maiden name had been Martha Lawrence, a descendent of the Lawrences who, with the Galloways and Pinkertons, came from Armagh, Ireland, over a century ago. When Toronto was Muddy York they traveled up Yonge street and settled eight miles northwest of Bradford at a place called Pinkerton Corners. A grandfather of the deceased, James Galloway, was a miller and operated the flour mill now called Old stone Mill on the Humber River. A granduncle was Joseph Walker, whom the town of Walkerton was named after.

FRANCIS CLINTON CROSWELL
CROSSWELL, Francis Clinton Croswell, March 20, 1916-January 21, 2001. Clint Croswell, a resident of Kagawong, died at the Mindemoya Hospital on Sunday January 21, 2001 at the age of 84 years. He was born in Toronto, son of the late Francis and Grace (Thompson) Croswell. Clint attended school in Toronto, studying first, mechanical design, then became a student of accounts with a firm of Chartered Accountants in Toronto from 1938-1940. He served in the Navy from 1940-45, and following the war, returned to accounting, moving to South Porcupine to specialize in Mine accounting. In 1948, he joined the Field Auditing staff of United Co-Operatives, and in the early 50's was an auditor for the Manitoulin Livestock Co-Operative. In 1957, Clint joined the staff of League Central of Ontario as Chief Examiner for Credit Unions in Ontario, retiring in 1980 as Vice-President covering Examinations and Field Services. Clint also had many outside interests, and in 1953 became active in the Boy Scouts, until he retired as regional Commissioner for Greater Toronto Region and a Provincial Commissioner. He was awarded the Medal of Merit and the Silver Acorn by the then Governor General. An active member of the Manitoulin Navy Vets, he served as Secretary, Treasurer and Chairman. He was also an avid golfer, and had been given a life membership to the Manitoulin Island Country Club. Clint was involved in the organization of LAMBAC, and was its first Chairman. Dearly loved husband of Helen (Hilliard) of Kagawong; loving father and father in law of Clinton (Kit) and Karen Croswell of Oakville; Valerie and Gary Morrison of Brampton; Wendy and John Kennedy of Mississauga and Jim Harrison of Georgetown; and step father and father in law of Candy and Doug Clark of Kagawong and Carmen and Steve Paterson of Thornhill. HELEN HILLIARD TRACY CROSWELL
May 30, 1925 - May 28, 2009
In loving memory of Helen Hilliard Tracy Croswell. Helen was the only child of William (Bill) Hilliard and Nellie Griffith Hilliard. She was born and raised in Billings, and after a brief period in Toronto returned to Billings as a schoolteacher. She married Harry Tracy, who was then a storekeeper in Kagawong, on December 9, 1948. Helen lived in Kagawong the rest of her life. Their daughter Candace (Candy) was born December 15, 1949 (although to Helen's horror, one of her cousins circulated a family tree which had a typo and listed both events as occurring the same year). Harry gave up the store to work for Hydro, and daughter Carmen was born August 24, 1957. After Harry died on June 18, 1978, Helen married Clinton (Clint) Croswell on September 11, 1982. Clint passed away on January 21, 2001. Helen was a life-long fan of socializing, reading, travel, and playing cards. As she grew older, her hobbies of dances and parties, boat rides, evening classes, and fancy baking turned more to watching television and eating out. She was active in the United Church, the Billings Library, and the Kagawong Historical Society. Health problems in recent years didn't dampen her spirits. She was very adaptable, and only advised "This getting-old business isn't for sissies." She is predeceased by many friends and relatives. Many of them are kept alive in our memories by the stories she would tell about them, even though some died before we were born. We hope that we will do half as good a job at keeping her memory alive, by having people remember her as we do - as young enough to ride herd on her children, and keeping her character of a husband (both of them!) from doing something too eccentric, maintaining a network of friends, and having good times. Helen is survived by her loving daughters Candy (her husband Doug Clark and their son Digger, all of Kagawong), and Carmen (and her husband Stephen Paterson of Thornhill). Fondly remembered by step-children Karen (predeceased; husband Jim Harrison and family); Clinton Jr. ("Kit"; wife Karen and family); Valerie (husband Garry Morrison and family); and Wendy (predeceased; husband John Kennedy and family), and former son-in-law Steven McAnsh. Friends called at the Culgin Funeral Home on Sunday, May 31, from 2 to 5 pm. The funeral service was conducted in the Wm. G. Turner Chapel on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 11 am with Rev. Idella Crouch (nee Leeson) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Collingwood, in her 87th year. Idella, beloved wife of the late Stuart will be lovingly remembered by her sons Richard Crouch and Jeffrey (Leanne) Crouch. Forever cherished in the hearts of her grandchildren April and Justin. Survived by her younger brothers Reg Leeson of South Baymouth and Max Leeson of Holland Landing. Funeral Service was held on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Fawcett Funeral Home-Collingwood Chapel, with interment at Trinity United Cemetery in Collingwood. Idella was born and raised on a farm in �The Slash� Tehkummah Township. She went to Toronto and became a nurse, where she met and married her husband Stuart Crouch. At retirement, they moved to Collingwood. All their lives, they cherished times spent at their cottage on South Bay.

Allan CROWE
CROWE Allan "Al" Age 81 years, a resident of Toivo Street, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, on Sunday, June 23rd, 2002. Born in Manitawaning, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, on November 14th, 1921, he moved to Thunder Bay Port Arthur, in 1950. Al graduated from the Ontario College of Pharmacy, in 1945 and was a Member Emeritus of the Ontario College of Pharmacists. In 1950, he began working at the Pharmacy Department, at the Port Arthur General, retiring in 1982, after 32 years. Al enjoyed watching sports on the television, gardening and spending time with his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathleen Kay; son, Kenneth, of Fort Frances; daughter, Nancy Michael Waring, of Toronto; granddaughter, Michelle Steve Johnson, Waring and great-grandson, Dai Johnson, of Chester, England; sister, Geraldine Bob Wark, of Owen Sound; nephew, John Wark, of Owen Sound, as well as by cousins on Manitoulin Island. He was predeceased by his parents, John Russel and Pearl Vera Crowe and a sister, in infancy. JACK WHITE CULGIN
In loving memory of Jack White Culgin, July 14, 1926 - June 22, 2000. Jack Culgin, a resident of Chaffey's Lock, died at Kingston General Hospital on Thursday, June 22, 2000 at the age of 73 years. He was born at Beeton, son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (White) Culgin. Jack and Aileen were married on December 6, 1947, and farmed at Tottenham with Aileen's parents, Oliver and Alma Pettit for many years, then took over the farm and worked it until he retired from farming. He then worked for the LCBO for 16 years. After retiring from there, Jack and Aileen moved to Chaffey's Lock in 1991. Shortly after, Jack had an aneurysm which left him wheelchair-bound. However, He made the best of his situation and continued to fish, his favourite pastime, and learned to paint and to play the organ. With help from his right-hand-man, Dennis, he continued to plant his garden and care for the neighbourhood with vegetables from his garden. Although life was not always the greatest, mostly he made the best out of his situation. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but many precious memories will be cherished.
Dearly loved husband of Aileen (Pettit) Culgin of Chaffey's Lock. Loving and loved father of Ted and Barbara Culgin of Gore Bay and Mary Jane and David Jevons of Tottenham. The Late William Cullis
Bruce Mines Spectator: Mr. William Cullis, one of the oldest and most respected residents of Bruce Mines passed away Sunday, May 11, 1924, after an illness extending over many moths. Although his death was expected his passing away was a great shock to his many friends. The late Mr. Cullis was born in 1850 in St. Thomas and three years later came with his parents to Bruce Mines. He with his parents to Bruce Mines. He was a miner for several years until the cave-in at the old mine. At that time the mines were owned by John Taylor & Sons. Mr. Cullis was a boat builder for some years. Since returning from the Mississauga Light station in 1900 where he has been for about 28 years, he has lived retired in his comfortable home near the United Church. Deceased was a good musician and for many years acted in the capacity of organist of the Methodist Church when the late Mr. John knight was leader of the choir. He was also organist in the English Church for some time. The high quality of the music in those days is still remembered and talked about. Mr. Cullis was a good musical critic and may valuable suggestions have been received from him by many of us in a kindly way which we appreciated very much indeed. Mr. Cullis would express his opinion of a song or anthem good or bad in no uncertain terms. The funeral which was largely attended was held on Wednesday afternoon, from the united Church, service being conducted by Rev. Mr. Andrews.

IRENE MCNULTY CULVER
In memory of Irene McNulty Culver, (1911 - 2007) of Sheguiandah who died at her winter home in Lakeland, FL, on February 14, 2007. A visitation and prayer service was held at Lakeland Funeral Home with Father D. Gonzales presiding. In the spring, a memorial service and burial of ashes will be held at St. Bernard's Church in Little Current. She was born to Frank and Bertha (Rainville) Sampson in Bonfield, Ontario. She was preceded in death by her sisters Violet, Bertha and Jeanette. She is survived by her brothers George, Gerald, Mark, Ron, Jack and Bob. She will be greatly missed by her immediate family, Gail and Alex Murray, Ian Murray of Sheguiandah, Corine and Eric Rowen and their daughter Allison of Brantford. In 1983, Irene married Alton Culver (predeceased, 1995) and gained a new family, Jared, Asa, Norman, Sarah and Calvin along with 15 grands and 24 great grands. Irene was very dedicated to her nursing career. She spent 25 years as a Public Health Nurse with the native populations on Moose Factory Island and Manitoulin Island where she made many friends. A special love during her retirement years was the many hours spent "raking the beach" at her cottage on Sheguiandah Bay. Her work ethic was an inspiration to all who knew her and her manicured beach a lasting memorial for her neighbours.

DR. HAROLD GREENFIELD CUMMING
August 21, 1928 � August 18, 2011
Dr. Harold Greenfield Cumming was born on August 21, 1928 and peacefully passed away at Calvary Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 18, 2011. He will be deeply missed by his wife Suzann, daughters Katherine Cumming and Christine (Cam) Regehr, granddaughters Anna and Sarah, Jane Ciszewski and many family and friends. Harold was born in Gore Bay on his beloved Manitoulin Island into a tight community of faithful family and friends who loved to make music together. Having no siblings, Harold developed deep relationships with many fondly loved cousins. His view of heaven was not far off some combination of Manitoulin Island and Scotland. His studies in Wildlife Biology took him to Toronto, Michigan and Aberdeen, Scotland. Professionally and personally Harold enjoyed the natural world. He spent many years working for the Ministry of Natural Resources and over 20 years at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay teaching, researching and implementing management of big game in Ontario. In 1971, he married Wilma Nothrop and spent many happy years with his family in the outdoors, musical endeavours and travels. He mourned her death in 1998. Harold demonstrated beautifully the love and integrity of our Heavenly Father to his family, church and others. A lover of music, he spent most of his life involved in some kind of music, including many years with the Thunder Bay Symphony Chorus. He shared his music, leadership and teaching at church faithfully for many years, particularly at First Presbyterian Church and Calvin Presbyterian Church. In 2001, Harold married Susan Walgate and enjoyed further time at his house at McKenzie Heights and at his cottage on Manitoulin with her and travelling. In 2008, shortly after moving to Winnipeg to be closer to his daughters and first granddaughter, he suffered a stroke and was lovingly cared for by Suzann and his daughters for the remainder of his life. We have much gratitude for the diligent and warm care he received at Calvary Place over the last two years. Harold was a man who was generous of heart, playful in spirit and storytelling, strong in faith, loyal, sacrificial, and always had a song in his heart and on his lips. A funeral service was held in Thunder Bay on August 24, 2011.

He was born at Little Current, son of the late Thomas and Millicent (Scott) Cunning. Dave had worked at the Co-op for 25 years before running his own butcher shop for about 20 years. In his earlier years, Dave liked to hunt, curl, play darts, make wine and always loved to BBQ. He also enjoyed fishing and playing cribbage with Alf Armstrong. Anyone who knew Dave loved him, and in return he loved people. He is one of few people that you could honestly say had no enemies. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and especially his family. Many happy memories will be cherished by all, and numerous stories will be shared. Dave was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce (Greenman), March 1, 1976. Loved and loving father of Tom and his wife Jackie of Espanola and Terri Lynn and partner Noel of Chelmsford and great friend Lloyd Neganegijig of Gore Bay. CUNNING, Richard Charles - 75, Hammonds Plains, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on November 10, 2006. Born in Sudbury, Ont., he was a son of the late Thomas and Millicent (Scott) Cunning. He was in the RCN for 10 years. He played pro hockey for the Detroit Red Wings farm team. Dick retired from Abegweit Bus Tours, Prince Edward Island, a job which he loved. He was an avid oil painter, and was a member of the I.O.F. Above all, he was a family man and proud grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Shirley Frances (Campbell); sons, Rick (Diane), Middle Sackville; Steve (Kate), Oshawa, Ont.; daughters, Chris Cunning (Marty), Timberlea; Diana Cunning (Tracie), New Minas; brothers, Dave, Gore Bay, Ont.; Bill (Sheila), Sudbury, Ont.; sister, Pauline Moore, Ohio. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Travis, Hilary, Logan, D'Arcy, Mackenzie "Joey" Cunning, Blake "Charlie" Grant, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jack, Bob, and Les. Cremation has taken place. William (Bill) Frederick Cunning (May 27, 1927). It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Cunning at Sudbury Regional Hospital, St. Joseph site on December 11, 2007. Bill was the loving husband of Shiela Cunning (nee Cranston) and beloved father of son Scott Allan Cunning (predeceased) and daughter Dr. Sandra Ann Cunning of Toronto. Son of Thomas and Millicent Scott Cunning, surviving brother of Leslie, Pauline (Moore), Jack, Bob, Dick, and Dave Cunning, and dear brother-in-law to Barbara (nee Ferguson) and Godfrey Cranston of Little Current and Ida Cunning (nee Aelick) of Sudbury. On behalf of Bill, Shiela and Sandra would like to express their sincere gratitude for the incredible care, compassion, and humor of Dr. Mehta and the Dialysis Staff at Laurentian Site. ''Grambo'' to her 19 grand- children: Andrew, Elizabeth, Sarah, Christopher, Nicole, Marisa, Peter, Bethany, Kate, Jesse, Benjamin, Rachel, Joe, Judah, Matthew, Emily, Laura, Simon and Liam and her great-grandchildren: Jack, Luke and Haven. Born and raised on the Williamson farm on Lake Mindemoya, Marion was sixth of her seven sister and four brothers, following Crystal, Floyd, Ilene, Dot, and Dub, and preceding Margaret, Reid, Norrie, Dale and Peter. Marion lived a life of joyful service to her family and community. She will be sadly missed by her many extended family members and friends. Honor Roll
Gore Bay mourns for another soldier who has made the supreme sacrifice. Pte. Jack Currie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Currie of Gordon, has been reported died of wounds. Jack enlisted last winter going overseas in February with the 124th Battalion. The first week in August Pte. Currie went to France and has been in heavy fighting of the last two months. The deceased is survived by his parents two sisters and three brother to whom the sympathy of the entire community is extended.
Mr. Archie Currie received a telegram from the Director of Records on Wednesday, stating that Pte. Jack Currie had died of wounds on Sept. 29th, gun shot wound in the abdomen.

We regret to report the death of Mrs. Donald Currie, which took place in Gore Bay on Friday morning, the 26th inst. Mrs. Currie who has been an invalid for some years from chronic rheumatism, was affected recently by that trouble in the region of the heart, from which she succumbed. Mrs. Currie was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Milligan, of Gordon, and sister to Messrs. Gordon, Wallace and Joseph Milligan, all of whom are well known in Gore Bay. Mr. Currie, who is engaged as foreman for the Manitoulin Ranch & Lumber Co., at Meldrum Bay, arrived home only a couple of hours before his wife�s death. He has the deepest sympathy of the whole community. The Recorder condoles with the husband and bereaved family in their hours of sorrow. The funeral took place on Saturday at All Saints Church and was conducted by the Rev. John Tate. The interment took place in Gordon Cemetery.

She had a passion for many causes such as the Pro Life movement and helping to establish a Half Way house in Owen Sound. Everywhere she lived, she was involved in her church and community particularly advocating for the disadvantaged. Funeral Mass was at 3 pm on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Our Lady of Canada Catholic Church, Mindemoya, Ontario with Father Jim Kelly officiating. In the spring there will be a Funeral Mass at St. Bonaventure Church in Tracadie Cross, PEI. Internment at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Tracadie Cross, PEI. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy in Halifax. He worked as a stationary engineer for INCO. Retired in May 2000. Son of the late Michael John Cushing predeceased and Lavina Denault Cushing of Pembroke. Husband of Jeannine Talbot Cushing predeceased July 15, 2000. Mrs. Richard Cushing
Another of the well known and highly respected citizens of Mindemoya has recently received the call we must all obey. Mrs. Richard Cushing has been taken at a time when leaving the farm seemed to assure a period of rest. Mr. Cushing had sold his beautiful farm on Lake Mindemoya and retired to the village, where he purchased a comfortable home. How pleasant it would been to enjoy some years of well-earned rest together after sharing the heat and burden of the day; but God saw otherwise.
Mrs. Cushing was a good neighbor. The writer in calling at the old farm always felt at home and enjoyed the kind hospitality extended to him at all times.
He joins the many friends of Mr. Cushing and family in sympathy with them in their recent bereavement.

Born in Sudbury he grew up in Minnow Lake moving at 18 to Blind River, to work for Ontario Hydro. In 1958, he married Marlene in Killarney and they enjoyed 45 years together. Ray was transferred to the Ontario Hydro Warren Office where he retired as Supervisor. Ray loved to reminisce about his sports life, from coaching women's baseball as a teenager to his love of hockey and baseball minor associations. Many local hockey players benefited from his tough but fair coaching. An accomplished athlete in his younger days he maintained a life long love of sports, including actively coaching many Montreal Canadian hockey games from his lazy boy. Ray was an accomplished storyteller with a wonderful sense of humour; he has brought much happiness into the world especially for his children and grandchildren.

WILLIAM "BILLY BUCK" HENERY CYWINK
In loving memory of William "Billy Buck" Henery Cywink of Whitefish Falls who left this world on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the Manitoulin Health Centre at the age of 73. Bill worked for the CPR most of his working life. He was a brakeman for years, and was promoted as a Conductor before retirement. Though he had a gruff exterior, he had a big heart and even bigger smile. It didn't matter where or when, or how he was feeling, he always smiled. He was helpful to many, always ready to "give." He was thoughtful and observant to others' needs. Predeceased by his wife Susan (nee Pitawanakwat). Loved by his children Carol Tomes, Kenneth, both of Toronto, William "Buck" of Guelph, Brenda Cywink and Lori Cywink, both of Whitefish Falls, Billie Jean Cywink and Linda Cywink, both of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Predeceased by daughter Denise and son Dennis and step-daughter Mary Pitawanakwat. Will be missed by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Survived by sister Mary Bernadette Kilworth of Blind River and brother Allan Howard Cywink of Uxbridge. Predeceased by many other siblings. At Bill's request, he was cremated.
